Paul Greengrass Laughs Off Rumors About A Return To The BOURNE Franchise

While Universal themselves denied reports that director Paul Greengrass would be reteaming with star Matt Damon for another Bourne movie, the filmmaker has now gone on record to debunk the rumors.

"I’ve absolutely no idea," Paul Greengrass told Empire when they asked him why exactly these rumours about a return to the Bourne franchise keep coming up. Last year saw Universal decide to continue the series with a new lead character played by Jeremy Renner (Bourne without Bourne if you will). It was understandable then that fans were excited to think that the real deal would be making a return, but that simply is not the case according to Greengrass. "I’m not being funny but, no, that’s just a figment of someone’s imagination." As for when he last talked to Matt Damon about making another instalment of Bourne, he added: "Quite a while ago. We might have a laugh about it, but a serious conversation? Not for a long time." So, it looks like we're stuck with Aaron Cross for the foreseeable then. Whether or not the director would be open to returning to helm a future chapter of the franchise is unclear, but it certainly doesn't sound as if it's something he's desperate for. "Um... listen, I loved the Bourne movies. I loved making them but it’s like anything in life, you’ve got to move on and do different things."

I very muched enjoyed The Bourne Legacy so I'm fine with this. Give me Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton and you have my interest. If Matt Damon never comes back that's his loss.

Id like to see Matt and Jeremy on the same movie, so hopefully the studio finds another good director and gets Matt back

Bourne Legacy was ok, but the ending seemed kind of forced. IMO, they either need to change the name of the series, bring Damon back or get a new actor to play Jason Bourne. Having Bourne movies without anyone named Bourne in them is dumb!

The Bourne Ultimatum ended things on a high note. There's no reason to revisit his story. It's finished. I just wish Universal would have realized that before we got 'Bourne Quatro: The Search for More Pills!'
