Updated: Contenders For The Bourne Legacy Revealed!

The trades of Variety have received the scoop on who may lead the latest Tony Gilroy-directed 'Bourne' installment, The Bourne Legacy. The site says that Gilroy has been in town week meeting with several actors for the lead role that is not Jason Bourne, but rather, a new assassin with a similar background.

UPDATE: Deadline has added additional Contenders:
Joel Edgerton, Josh Hartnett, Paul Dano, Michael Pitt, Oscar Isaac, Michael Fassbender, Luke Evans, Alex Pettyfer, and Benjamin Walker.


"The list of thesps includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch, and Kellan Lutz, sources close to the process tell Variety."


The site further states that insiders add Gilroy has an idea of what kind of actor he wants, while Universal have their own picks. And lesser-known actors could become a factor because Gilroy wants to screen-test all candidates.

Strange route they decided to take.. But if I must add my input on this specific aspect, I'd like to say I want Taylor to be cast. I think he has what it takes to be a great actor, but his opportunities have not been short of shit, so he needs this to prove himself.

I loved the Bourne movies but they deviated so much from the books, I wonder if the Legacy implied is the same as it was in the book or are they just cashing in on the title

This is disappointing. Matt Damon was PERFECT as Jason Bourne. Even worse than recasting the role is creating a new character played by one of the "it" tweeny actors, but still calling the film BOURNE.

I really have no interest in this movie anymore. Especially after having just watched Ultimatum for the second time yesterday (which is a great film).

However, for arguments sake, I think the key to casting this role is to find a guy that is MANLY! Someone that's tough and mature looking, who doesn't look like they got cast because of their looks. I want an impressive actor, but also someone that's built and is strong-looking. Someone with an edge.

So, out of the actors mentioned, these are the ones I like: Michael Pitt, Luke Evans, Benjamin Walker, and Garrett Hedlund. Oscar Isaac might be doable, though I've never seen him in a "tough, almost psycho" kind of role. Taylor Kitsch is a decent actor, but he'd have to cut his hair. Michael Fassbender, while a terrific actor, I think has too much on his plate at the moment. I think he could definitely fit the part, though, so if he has time, that'd be perfect.

I am new to this so Heyya to all. So that out the way let me say this. I may be wrong but isnt the Jason Bourn the name they give him due to the project being called Bourne Project cuz at the end of the series we find out his name is David Webb. So the new character could cpntinue the legacy hence (whatevernametheychoose)Bourne.

either way, the new lead got to learn KALI a filipino martial arts (FMA) which was used in the previous films and also in mission impossible series fight scenes...i just hope they could bring damon back.
