HOBBS & SHAW star Dwayne Johnson has gone out of his way to express his excitement for Jason Momoa's potential involvement in the FAST franchise. But what prevented his inclusion in the first place?

This Sunday, the world will be introduced to a whole new corner of the Fast and Furious franchise, with a Super Bowl trailer debut planned for the spinoff. Fans are building up excitement for the feature, which has assembled an A-list cast, some of which will be finally shown in action Sunday.

With the announcement of WWE superstar Roman Reigns joining the picture, The Rock was asked if Aquaman's Jason Momoa would ever join the saga on his Instagram. With the heavy narrative influence of Johnson's Somoan ancestry, the star called the possibility very likely.

Me and Momoa tried hard to get him in this movie to play my brother, but his schedule was too packed. Next Hobbs movie for sure.


A huge inflence over the Fast franchise has always been family, so it is no surprise the fellow who grew up around the same area as Johnson, would be in talks. Hopefully the promise will come through, but with Momoa's increased popularity over the past few months, the actor will need a role to fit his newfound stardom.

Momoa could be a good fit for this crazy franchise! For the sequel bring Luke Evans back and Hobbs & Shaw 2 will be Hobbs & Shaw dealing with their crazy, violent, out of control, sexy little brothers or just teaming up with them. XD

Rock... I don't do wrestling and I've never particularly been inclined as a fan to most of your stuff (tho I did, very much to my surprise, quite enjoy the Jumanji reboot/quel), you seem like a perfectly lovely gentleman, but what in the hell is the virtue of looking like THAT? lol And I realize that may be a certain embellishment for this character, but the real you is plenty close enough. How much is enough, you're surely way in the black on healthy (short of maybe some genetic disease), you're way in the black on being strong enough to do pretty much anything possible. Are you overcompensating for something? (I promise this ain't even a dick joke)
I just can't help but find this rather fascinating.

This movie sounds awesome, they were the best things about Fast 8.

Grabbing Mamoa would’ve been sick, too.

@regularmovieguy - amazing how far this franchise has come.

I wonder how far they will keep going. Initially it seemed that they would end with Fast 10, but now with this Hobbs & Shaw spinoff (and it sounds like Dwayne thinks it will get a sequel) and the female-led spinoff that Vin announced last week, this franchise may continue well past 2022.

Yeah...we’ll see how many main Fast movies we get.

Idk how much longer they can keep it going when Dwayne is doing this spinoff and Paul Walker’s gone. I like the team but Tyrese, Vin, Michelle, and Luda are the most appealing team.

Hope they can add some new guys to the group. Other than that though yeah it’s still running strong after all these years.

I haven’t rewatched the last one since I saw it in theaters but that Statham airplane fight scene had me dying😂

@regularmovieguy - I feel the same way about all that bro! And yeah, haven't rewatched F8te even though I have it downloaded on my computer. First half was pretty boring but the last half, especially the airplane sequence was freaking awesome!!

@regularmovieguy - thought you'd find this interesting. Fast9 won't have Hobbs or Shaw in it.

"The plan has always been for the Fast and Furious universe to grow and expand," Johnson explained. "As of now, we're not in Fast 9 because they're getting ready to start shooting. But who knows with Fast 10 and down the road, you never know. Because look, at the end of the day, the truth is, there's unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom. It's unfinished."

Idk man...as much as I like the guys, their feud during Fast 8 was pretty public.

I’d like to think he’d come back but I don’t think their egos would allow it. I think it’s also been reported Vin doesn’t like that Dwayne is getting his spinoff.

Either way I’m excited to see what this franchise brings us 👌🏻💪🏻

And yessss, that last half was great. Totally agreed. First half almost had me falling asleep,

@regularmovieguy - Vin might privately not like that Dwayne got a spinoff, but publicly he did support it.

Yeah that feud was pretty bad. And then Tyrese got involved, aye aye aye!! Honestly, I love the Rock, he's a fave, but I would blame him for what happened. Vin brought Dwayne to the franchise, its Vin's baby and not Dwayne's and Dwayne needs to respect that.
