As announced a few days ago, the twenty-fifth entry in the James Bond franchise had been pushed back two months from its original February 2020 premiere date to April, just in time for Easter. Many were wondering the reason for the delay, whether it be for strategic box office profit or production troubles internally. Thanks to The Playlist, we now know why.

According to the outlet, the producers and MGM have recruited acclaimed screenwriter Scott Z. Burns to do emergency rewrites on the script.

The production has been delayed to make way for Burns, who will be going off a script from franchise veterans Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. The known script doctor has previously written The Borne Ultimatum and has reworked blockbusters such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. His directorial debut, The Report, was just aquired by Amazon for $15 million, after critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival.

The Playlist further notes that the rewrite is a full overhaul due to the current quality of the screenplay, and that Burns may be end up being James Bond 25's only credited screenwriter.

Will Daniel Craig's final appearance as the spy be fitting one? We'll just have to wait and see.

I was hoping the delay was to give Rami Malek the time he needs to clear his schedule to play the villain. Maybe that could be a result of this. I would really be interested in seeing him as a Bond villain.

@BreakTheCode - Same, but unfortunately I think that's off the table now... Especially if Rami somehow wins an Oscar.

Just watched Skyfall again this weekend, still can't believe they're not moving with this yet. I want a proper conclusion to Daniel Craig's time as Bond. Say what you will about who comes next but this guy deserves one last swan song. It's so hard to top Skyfall and they know that as well hence all the preparation. He really was a fantastic Bond though in my opinion, let him go out with a bang.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - I've loved Craig's Bond. Casino Royale is probably my favorite Bond film of all time and Skyfall is up there. Hopefully he goes out with a bang rather than the pitiful whimper that was SPECTRE.
