We recently learned that Amazon has acquired the streaming rights to the James Bond franchise, and there was immediate speculation that this could lead to spinoff TV shows revolving around characters from that world. Small screen plans for 007 were quickly debunked, while it sounds like we should also forget about movie spinoffs.
In No Time to Die, we're introduced to two new badass female characters who could easily hold their own away from Bond, Lashana Lynch's Nomi and Ana de Armas' scene-stealing Paloma, and while they could return down the line, it won't be in their own movies!
"The success of these films is the central character," longtime producer Barbara Brocolli says in the video below. "We have not done [a spinoff] in the past, and I don't think we have any plans to do it in the future. But who knows?"
While there is huge potential for James Bond TV shows and spinoffs, it appears the team working on the franchise don't want to water it down in any way. That's understandable, but at a time when moviegoers expect everything to be connected like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's easy enough to see why there's a demand for more.
There's no word on where the series is going after No Time to Die, but it sounds like the hunt for a new James Bond will begin sometime next year so we might not have too long to wait.
