Everything you wanted to know, & maybe some you didn't...

Let me start by saying hello. Some of you may already know who I am, to those who don't let me introduce myself, I am one of the biggest Dragonball fans around. I have been a fan since I first discovered the anime when I was around 8(almost 6 years before most people even knew what it was). I have been waiting for this movie for 10 years, 7 if you just count the years Fox sat on it. Those of you who know me know I have had a very strong opinion of this movie for a long time, since I saw the first images last July in fact. Most of you can probably guess what I'm gonna say, but you'ed be wrong.

As I sat at my computer waiting for the torrent to finish downloading I could barely contain my excitement, well it was more a mix of fear & anticipation. When it was done I cliked the play icon just to see if it was another joke(I have DL several fakes) it wasn't!!! It was real!!! I started the movie. The copy I had gotten was a bootleg, & the first few minuets were cut off, so no opening. I could deal with that as long as the rest was ok(witch it was). It starts off as your typical high school movie, loser Goku feels invisable, gets picked on by bullies(Grandpa Gohan made him promise never to fight in school), laughed at in class( in a scene in witch he misprounces Nameks as nemics atleast 3 time), & desperitly wants to go out with the cute popular girl(Chi-Chi), he even has a heart to heart with Grandpa Gohan about wanting to be normal. So far this movie is grabage I am very glad it didn't cost me 10 buck to see. The rest of the movie, after Piccolo uses his "sith" like power to crush Gokus house from down the street, is pertty much what you'ed expect, Goku & Bulma meet & team up, they find Roshi & set off to find the dragonballs to stop Piccolo. Along the way they meet Yamcha, and Goku learns the Kamahamaha wave from Roshi. You can guess the end, if you haven't seen it on here already.
I origanly had writen a whole run down of the movie but have decided not to give everything away, so heres the wind-up: this movie was decently writen & put toghter rather nicely(even if the writer & director had not done their homework & had no clue what they were dealing with). The story flows nicely together and if you can take the fact that it's suposed to be Dragonball out of you mind its actually an ok movie. Justin Chatwin's proformence leaves alot to be desired if you expect to feel like the person your watching is Goku, but as far as playing a loser trying to find his place in the world Chatwin must already have a life time of real expeirence. Emmy Rossum's Bulma was a little more on point the Chatwins Goku but was still a little too wana-be badass. Yeah Bulma is tough, but she's more likely to trow her guns in the air screaming as she runs away then shoting as shes running towards something. Other then that the only times I really felt disopointed were whenever they'ed say one of the characters names & it brought me back to the fact I was watching a movie with Dragonball in the title. there were also a few things that had nothing to do with being a bad Dragonball knock off I didn't like, for example Chow Yun Fat kept doing these little dance/fighting movement ti chi style that just looked stupid. When Roshi is teaching Goku the Kamhamaha he has to do all these dumb little hand gestures that are suposed to help focus his ki, & don't get me started on the whole Ozaru storyline.

I'll be completly honest here; if any of you know me you know I have had nothing but bad things to say about this movie, & I will hold true to all those things because I was right. As far as holding up to the title of a Dragonball movie this movie was not at all what I would have wanted to see and they failed on alot of thing. But, as far as being a movie standing on its own, to people like the younger crowd they are gearing this movie towards, all in all it is actually a pretty good movie. I mean I watched it & didn't want to storm out have way through, but thats not to say it wasn't loaded with flaws if you know what your looking for. ENTER AT OWN RISK!!

1 - It's a family movie, how old are you ? i've seen 6 reviews from Japanese KIDS and 5 of them liked, they are the target.
2 - You watched a bootleg, i've seen 3 bootlegs on youtube and they were all missing parts, like the movie in japan has 89 minutes runtime and they all didnt pass 70 minutes, does yours ?
3 - You watched a bootleg with a bad camera (no matter how good the camera is it doesnt compare with HD in big screen), go watch some of the new TV spots from yesterday released on USA and you'll see the difference.
4 - There are a rumour that USA version (and hopefuly all countries getting it from 8 april foward) will get a longer version, confirmed by Justin himself, and he said especialy the last battle scene.
5 - its your opinion, and i respect but i dont agree, i enjoyed the movie, could have been better ? sure, as any other movie is never perfect, but its still worth, but if before you watch it you have your mind ready to look for the bad things and nit-pick it then i'm sure you'll hate it.

Laterz!

Johan02, you and I have had our disagreements about this movie. But it's nice to know we can agree that while it's not the best DB adaptation, it's still a good movie on it's own.

I'm still gonna waste about 40 dollars this spring to see it in theaters a few times. lol. I have a facebook friend from Japan and they've seen it. The first time she watched it, she was counting all the flaws and everything and she said as an adaptation it completely sucked. she went to see it again and threw out the fact that it was an adaptation, and with that out of the way, she thought it was a pretty bad-ass, fun movie.

I'm the same way. I don't think it was the best adaptation, but it's pretty fun to watch overall.

Lol, some people at work couldn't stop talking about the bootleg and what they said was hillarious, just finished "seeing" it, now I can join the fun!!. And well...I'm sorry I do find it horrendous from Emmy acting exactly like Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider, with her pouty lips while riding a bike and her hrums every few sentences/minutes, the bad dialogue, the plotholes big enough to be black holes (from the asian baby Goku, Mai and Yamcha could be cut out and it wouldn't affect the "story" in any way, somehow Goku takes 5 seconds to summmon Shenron yet Piccolo takes a lot longer to do it and while he does he just stands around looking stupid, Oozaru doesn't destroy anything, etc.), the fight in which no punches are traded, the easter eggs (which just pissed me of even more), the bad dialogue, I mean when I saw the strawberry scene... it was hillarious but it wasn't meant to be that way. Anyway... I didn't get as mad as I would have since I didn't pay to see it. And even if it is aimed for children, that is no excuse to make a crappy film in which nothing is explained. And I do enjoy children's movies, as long as they have quality in them.

I just want to know, what the hell did they spend 100 million dollars on?
look at this...

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/k6zqGn1fqrMn4kZn2a

it's supposed to be made with an estimated 15 million dollars

and this

http://twitchfilm.net/site/view/finally-some-us-action-on-blood-the-last-vampire#extended

which is supposed to be made with 50 million, both look as though they have similar effects... I just don't understand. Anyway to whoever wants to see it... a piece of advise, I'd recommend getting wasted, probably the urge will go away, if not at least you'll laugh it off, and blame the pounding headache afterwards on the booze.

Seriously I don't mind Goku not being asian, but they should have cast someone who knows how to fight, maybe then the fights would look cool (the only one mildly passable is just like watching people practicing Capoeira).

I was put off by the missing parts and can only guess what happened from the timr a car ran over the bike and the time when he was being called "Geeku"

Though this IS carrying the DB name, it's not DB, DBZ or DBGT, it's DBE. So it's not meant to follow any of those storylines. DBE (obviously) takes place when Goku is a Teenager while in DB he was a kid, DBZ he was an Adult and DBGT he was a Kid...yet an Adut as well...a Grandfather in fact.

Don't mind me, I'm just making excuses, haha.

All I'm saying is that if Goku was an athletic asian actor, at least he'd have some martial skills, and then 87eleven wouldn't have had to rely entirely on wirework (hell if Chatwin was athletic it probably wouldn't have looked as forced as it did).

I don't care about the nationality of the actor that plays Goku, but he must have martial skills or spend at least 8 months in intensive training to get the fighting to look good.

Chuck Noris should've played Goku, haha. Thanks Johan02, I thought that the guy taunting Goku was the guy whos car ran over his bike. I thought since Goku was an Alien that he shouldn't look like the rest of the cast and I actually think that Chatwin did a good job in his portrayal of a confused, teenage Goku. But before you people bitch about the portrayal remember that Chatwin is just an actor. He takes his orders from the director, if you have a problem with how he was portrayed, yell at James Wong. He ruins every remake he does.

DBZalltheway: We get that he's an Alien. But to us, it's like casting Jackie Chan to play Superman.

Johan02: Sorry,it kinda made sense in my head. I was replying to DBZalltheway "this is a good one, but people goku is not asian as i tell people hes an alien... how come people dont get the point on that"

See, looks wise, I've always pictured Goku as an Asian, just like I've always pictured Superman as White. Both characters are aliens. So for example, if you cast Superman with an Asian actor, your reason cannot be "well, he's not white, he's an alien." Just like reasons for casting Goku with a White actor cannot be "he's not Asian, he's an alien."
