Is a DBE Sequel REALLY Gonna Happen?

There's a lot of "info" about a DBE sequel scripted. The way the cast responded during this interview, it doesn't seem like it is. James Marsters gives us a little bit of hope for a DBZ movie done right.

Here's how the real DBZ movie should go.
1)Call the film "Dragonball Z". No subtitles!
2)Get someone better for the role of Goku (Donnie Yen for example)
3)Michael Jai White should play Piccolo
4) Vegeta is the main villian. I prefer Russell Wong for the part.(You know, the guy who played the villain in "Romeo must Die")
5) DON'T WATER IT DOWN TO A FREAKING PG RATED FAMILY MOVIE! Make it a dark, edgy, violent PG-13 epic!

Now THAT'S how you do a Dragonball Z movie, and the sequels to follow.

Oh yeah I almost forgot. Get rid of James Wong. He is a horrible choice to direct DBZ. I prefer Louis Leterrier. He knows action and his work on "The Incredible Hulk" proves that he can work with special effects.

I havent' seen it yet & it has gotten mixed review. U can't make something like this to Dark. You couldn't go as a family. DBZ was never dark. Look what Happened to Watchmen it just made enough to cover its expense. Not to mention DBE $4,650,000, #8. Source Yahoo movies

I'm sorry guys but i stand my ground i saw the movie and loved it! I think justin and james should be able to go on with these movies. I like the direction the movie took. I loved Master Roshi, i think that he was hillarious! I can not see these characters being pulled off by anyone else.

i liked it too. i think you guys are too ''orthodox'' with what happens with the product and source material. then perhaps we should hate also on heath ledger's joker, doc ock dying at the end of spiderman 2, wolverine's background being revealed just like that and there's a buttload more. i liked the way they changed things. i mean, i've seen every episode of db, dbz and dbgt many times and actually grew bored of it. i'm happy about it because it keeps it fresh, dare i say, and even if it has different elements it's the same story. that is what we want, isn't it?

yeah it kinda had a really shitty box office take off.
BUT i did see it friday night, and i couldnt say i was crying over how BAD it was but i also cant say i was crying about how GOOD it was either. It was like watching the introduction into something that could be amazing. so i am still on it for a "hopeful" sequel.

if this film is as terrible as everyone say it is then why on Earth would a sequel be any good?

Are they going to remove all the things that make DBE bad and not make the same mistakes - are they even going to admit to making any mistakes?

The movie was not terrible the people who even say it is bad probably didn't take the time to watch it. Yes it is childish. But it is very much dragonball. So those who say this movie is bad probably didn't actually watch dragonball or this movie at all.

@Marvel Rules:
If you don't take time to watch a movie you have no say in what it was like. I saw it and enjoyed all 85 minutes of it. So once you watch the movie you can talk until then stop posting on Dragonball Evolution news

back in 2001 when i first heard about a DBZ movie being made i was excitied i waited 8 years for this movie to come out and i was let down when i went to see it friday but i knew it was gonna be shit when i saw who they had directing it they changed to much shit in the movie piccolo and oozaru working together to destroy the earth get the [frick] outta here they could have atleast gave goku his tail and then when he was the ape the hulk was bigger than him he was a 7ft gorilla they need to wait 5-10 years then reboot the whole thing but get someone who was a fan a the series to write and direct cause its clear the director was just in it for a pay day

If they do a sequel, they better learn for the mistakes. I know Goku has a stronger ki, but Hannah Montana has a better box office. Even Fast and the Furious second weekend did better. It was 8th place. I wished them luck but it obviously didn't work.

Okay I didn't really like DBE, but I did like some of the elements (mainly Piccolo and he wasn't in the movie much). I want a sequel that is more true to the anime. I don't want it to be exactly the anime but I don't want the nameks working with the saiyans lol.

I gotta put in my 2 cents on this guys im a big fan of the show and this movie basically took it bent it over and raped it hard. Its not that the acting was bad or anything like that but if you are going to make a movie based on a show FFS at least stick to the story. At the time piccolo was reining havok on the world goku was only like 7 years old not in high school(its also the same time he met chichi and roshi, and a million other charscters that were out of timeline)and IMO it should have been vegeta/nappa as the main villains and have goku and him duke it out epically instead of goku and piccolo shooting different colored fire at eachother. all in all really dissapointed with this flick

my 5 year old nephew and i just finished it and right before Goku did his Kamahamayha he turned to me and said "This movie is kinda dumb isnt it" then he said "Lamo"

@solskrat during the piccolo saga Goku was a teenager, he was like 14 or 15, he couldn't have been 7 for sure since he was about 10 when the series started.

DBE made under 5 million dollars over the weekend, it finish in 9th place. No way in hell this well get a sequal, I believed Fox realize they realy screw up big time. their hasn't been a bad movie since Batman and Robin, and right now thats were this movie is place at. No their wont be a sequal because of how bad this movie finished in its opening week.

Everything you said is dead on correct. you said everything i felt as well, but the one thing that pissed me off beyond all. was that chi chi was teaching goku about ki. what the fudge. if anyone remembers master roshi showed goku how to do the kamehameha wave once and told goku that it took him like 50 years to learn it, and just by goku watching him, he did it himself. and it pisses me off that a little [frick]ing bitch like chi chi is showing the badest mother [frick]er in the whole universe how to use his ki, fox you suck. but dbe made lots of money internationaly. so we might see a sequal. i really do hope they do, and i pray to kami that they will fix what the [frick] they did

I hope sequels does happen. You fans are very heartless and thoughtless. Just because a live action film is not like the cartoon, that doesn't mean we have the right to say it's stupid or a failure. When I saw the film, it was entertaining. You have to give them a chance. I'm sure the sequel will change and the characters as well. But I hope they paint Bulma's hair full blue. Just keep saying that. But don't be so mean to the movie.

Actually I heard the movie did well internationally. So there will be a sequel, because actual fans who cared to watch the movie went to go see it.

People have the right to say that it sucks or not... It is obvious the movie won't be exact. But even you Torian want something exact like the hair. Don't get me wrong, I would like to see somethings closer to the anime myself. I said the movie was okay if you didn't watch the series... but that doesn't make sense. This probably didn't interest most. The fans though who will pay, and maybe more than once, should have been targeted. Then when they rave about it, you may get others to gain interest. I just don't get why alot of the movie seemed almost deliberately opposite.
1. Goku wasn't in school... The movie he was
2. Nameks make Dragonballs... The movie they didn't
3. Piccolo didn't know Goku... The movie he did
4. The Oozaru was giant... The movie he wasn't
5. The Oozaru couldn't be controlled... The movie he could
6. Goku learned Ki from roshi... The movie Chi Chi taught him
7. Chi Chi chased Goku... The movie, he chased her
8. Goku didn't back down from fights... The movie he had to hold back
9. Bulma has blue hair... The movie she didn't
10. Epic battles with people getting thrown through building, ground and rocks ... The movie didn't have them
11. Goku trained for awhile with Roshi... The movie wasn't much time at all.
12. Roshi was old and bald... The movie he was chunky and had a head of hair.

I think you get the picture. It is a slap in the face to true fans who expect better. These people are their guaranteed base and money. How many years do you see the movie do bad or hear fans screaming for better before you actually do them closer to home. Although I know and can accept that there are always changes, this was to much.

I was serious about my 5 year old nephew saying it was dumb . Also throughout the first 15 minutes of the movie he said "I not gonna watch this" he loves dragons and got up and walked off before shenron made its appearance. Even after i said the dragon is coming, he still left so i followed him. It sucked . it was just a plain bad movie and an absolute disgrace of an adaption.

Doesn't matter whether they were planning a sequel or not, because with DBE turning out to be an uber-flop, any plans they had would seem to be scrapped.

Once again it was not a flop internationally but that's ok... There will be a sequel the actors are signed and there is a script in the works.

u know whats funny is for example the first xmen movie and the first spiderman movie were no were near as good as the second one.. so im sure if they do make a sequel with they will.. it'll be a lot better

i just saw the movie today it was not as bad as people make to be i liked it a lot. i think the only thing i did not like was the voice of yamcha cuz he sounded weird..

master roshi was funny.. and the other thing i did not like was that the ozaru was not big enough for me...

but i agree i think that the sequel should be a pg-13 movie u have to make it more edgy because of vegeta nappa, and raditz.. im pretty sure that the second one (witch they should still do) will be a lot better

It's not just that the movie didn't follow the anime/manga. It's that the movie's story and script is really cliche. Acting, cast and director didn't help either. Just look at Transformers, Spiderman 1, Iron Man. Those movies didn't really follow the comics yet they were good and did good, because they didn't follow your typical cliche story.
