Superman4 Reviews Dragonball Evolution

Well I just went to go see Dragonball Evolution today and I don't know what all the haters are talking about because I thought the movie was very good. Ok I'll break it down giving the positives and the negatives.

Positives- First off most of the actors are good, Justin Chatwin's Goku while a little different for the Goku from the cartoon is just as likeable. His Goku is basically a teenager with a great destiny ahead of him and I'm sure Mr Chatwin had to go through some training to learn how to fight like that. James Marsters makes an awesome Piccolo and is quite cool. In fact Piccolo being my favorite character from the cartoon I wasn't disapointed at all. Jaime Chung, Randall Duk Kin, Enny Rossum, and of course the great Chow Yun-fat all do a good job with their characters as well. The actions scenes are also quite good, it feels a lot like the tv show. The Ki blasts are just how I imagened they'd look in real life, the look like fire and energy. There is also some well laid humor in there as well. The CGI is quite cool in most parts. The fight at the end is awesome.

Negatives- Joon Park is annoying and acts like one of those stupid teenagers from Friday the 13th that your look forward to them getting killed off. Eriko Tamura's character Mai is really just there to do Piccolo's bidding. Chi Chi isn't as involved as she could have been. James Marsters doesn't get as much screen time as he should (I'm crossing my fingers that there's a directors cut or something where we get to see more of him). The movie isn't 100% true to the TV series. Shenlong doesn't have any lines and he's not big enough. Joon Park is annoying, wait did I say that already? The Dragonballs just happen to be near places they go to. Goku doesn't have a tail, I know that sounds dumb but if you'd seen the cartoon and watched the movie you would know what I'm talking about but I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't seen it. The ending fight could have been longer.

Over all Dragonball Evolution was like I said very good, not perfect but no movie is and while it's not 100% true to the manga the changes and additions they made didn't bother me that much if at all. I can't wait for the sequel hope they do Raditz so we can see Piccolo and Goku team up.

I rate Dragonball Evolution 7 out of 10
