Aaron Taylor-Johnson Talks AGE OF ULTRON; Drawing From 'The Ultimates'

IGN recently sat down with Taylor-Johnson and his Godzilla co-star Elizabeth Olsen, discussing which comics they've been drawing inspiration from. Taylor-Johnson also comments on his Kick-Ass co-star, Evan Peters who will soon be seen in X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Hit the jump.

Many fans have wondered, though improbable, if Joss Whedon would draw inspiration from Mark Millar's controversial run on The Ultimates comic series, in regards to Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Though certain aspects are unlikely to translate on-screen in next year's Avengers: Age of Ultron, Aaron Taylor-Johnson revealed to IGN that The Ultimates is among those that himself and Olsen are drawing inspiration from. "I think The Ultimates and things like that have sort of a-- have quite a relative, close sort of thing to The Avengers and the first one" Taylor-Johnson said, "so, you know you look at those but there's a whole backlog of stuff, you know, that knowledge on those characters. [Quicksilver]'s who I've got my eyes on." Johnson was then asked if he'd been keeping an eye on his Kick-Ass co-star Evan Peters, who will be playing a different version of the character in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past"Yeah they'll do it very different which is great and I think that's important you know, cause it's totally different. I think also that's sorta set in the 70's or something? I'm excited in seeing that though." Peters' raved performance has been a hot topic of discussion in early reviews, so Taylor-Johnson certainly has his work cut out for him. In a separate interview, Elizabeth Olsen was asked how she was preparing for the role. "I wanted to get to know as many of the stories as I could regardless of it being relevant," said Olsen, "so I just asked Marvel to give me like a big, bible-binder of almost every single comic that she's really been present in and I just dove straight into that and it's pretty fun reading 'cause she's pretty awesome."

The Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, with Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, and James Spader. The film is set for release on May 1, 2015.

It was weird and creepy in a comic book, and it will be weird and creepy on film.

In Ultimates don't Pietro & Wanda do that incest thing?
No thanks.

I haven't read up on them in the Ultimates. Is all this talk of incest exaggerated?

No. It is not exaggerated.

I Don't think we have to worry about incest being in Age of Ultron. I'm pretty sure the Disney Execs might have something to say about it if it was.

Are there any redeeming qualities Aaron/Elizabeth could draw upon?

@TheAstoundingMan Ultimate Quicksilver is much faster than his 616 counterpart and can reach speeds extremely close to the speed of light. His speed is also comparable to the Hulk. The madder Hulk gets the stronger he gets, the longer Quicksilver runs the faster he becomes.

Ugh, the Ulitmates inspiration nonsense again. Why do they insist on using that version of Marvel? NO ONE likes those stories. Didn't Galactus eat that universe recently?

@Luminus Everything in the Ultimate universe touched by Jeph Loeb is absolute shit. The rest of it is pretty decent.

Man, Joe Mad certainly has improved over the years. I can see a significant difference between Ultimates 3, only a few years ago, and his work on Inhuman (which I think is fantastic).

do you really think disney/marvel studios will ever show incest in one of their movies?

Millar just had them be a little too touchy. It was Jeph Loeb (of course) who had Wanda and Pietro boinking.

@dellamorte1872

A) No that is not needed whatsoever. It wasn't interesting and it was done just to be controversial.

B) It's a family friendly film, they will never even touch on topics like that.

No it's never alluded to in 616.

It's not there, at all. Even the creators have confirmed it's not. People see what they want to see.

Disney has done incest before... They had it in The Lion King. It's a part of natural life.

Why do people rag on Ultimates? Volume 1 & 2 were excellent. 3 and Ultimatum were a blight though.

Just look at the MCU, Millar had some great ideas, as did Bryan Hitch.

Marvel is owned by Disney. There's no way is the incest angle going to be used.
