Last month, near the tail-end of the massive Avengers: Age Of Ultron press tour, stars Chris Evans (Snowpiercer) & Jeremy Renner (Kill The Messenger) found themselves in a bit of hot water after a joke they made about fellow Avenger, the Black Widow, went viral. After the comments were blown way out of proportion, both actors issued quick apologies, with Renner's statement receiving a bit of initial flak, and the issue was seemingly forgotten as it got caught up in the hype surrounding the release of the Joss Whedon-directed film. Last night on Conan, Renner revisited the whole situation and clarified a bit on the initial joke.

Check out his comments in the video below:

Marvel Studios presents “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. Damn it seems like anything you say nowadays is taken the wrong way and seen as sexist, homophobic, racist, or controversial in some other way.
Pansy ass people man. It's a joke. Get over it

Glad he is unapologetic, the fact that we still live in a day and age were some people expect an apology over a mere joke is sickening.

Yeah, that whole controversy was the dumbest thing to get irritated and offended at. Like have these people trying to be PC are still nothing but internet trolls who probably make equally or more offensive jokes in other places.

@Supers17

Everything you just said has offended women, gays, and blacks. Please apologize ;)

@Shootzilla

Right? It's not like he's going around accusing all women of being sluts, he's talking about a fictional character who, is drawn pretty slutty by men who are into that, so I don't think he's too far off point lol

Yea a great joke. Let's show girls that if you're friends with too many boys you're a slut. But I'm sleep tho.

I'm still pissed that I fell asleep during the monologue on Conan last night. Wanted to see Renner. That's a good clip, though.

@blackandyellow

I agree. I wanna see him and Wanda team up. They were both standouts in AoU.

This Twitter people need an actual demanding job, that doesn't allow them to have all this free time to talk shaite about everything and everyone.

It was boneheaded, especially given that even Joss Whedon is under fire for making her a musical chairs romantic interest. Renner is lucky they didn't kill his character off, and then he does something like this on the press tour. Have a good time being "retired" on that farm with your family Hawkeye.

As comic book fans, we know something that the general audience doesn't know. Black Widow is kind of a slut. I mean, really...

She's no She-Hulk, though. That bitch gets around.

**SPOLIER ALERT***

I was a bit disappointed when QS took the bullets for Hawkeye… I thought it was going to happen the opposite way around:( But this movie Hawkeye was a good scale of a human at peek condition trying to keep up with super humans.

So many fkn pansies these days. Renner called a fictional character a slut and he cops it from all these people. I'm glad Renner is unapologetic. People need to toughen the [frick] up.

ya anyways, if it was one man on a team with mostly women, and he slept with them he'd be a man-whore or a dog, but when its black widow on a team with mostly men and she sleeps with them, she's a slut. Only THEN its insulting. Little double standard at all?! COME ON!

@Nivekian

Whedon made Natasha a "musical chair romantic interest"? How so? She flirted with Stark and Cap, wore an arrow necklace as a tribute to her friend Hawkeye, and had a "relationship" of sorts with Banner. How does that make her a "musical chair romantic interest"? They never hinted that she had any relationship with Stark of Cap (although she kissed Cap under cover and proceeded to laugh at his technique), and they alluded to a history of sorts with Hawkeye.

If anything, the Russos made her much more sexualized in TWS with the bikini story, kissing Cap, and talking about Cap's lack of practice. In the Avengers she was shown as a cold-blooded spy, only showing affection for Hawkeye, who saved her life instead of killing her.

If this joke would had been about Chris Evans or Mark Ruffalo no one would had given a [frick]. But since it's about a woman, people lose their shit. And by the way, like he said, they are just fictional character, he did not insulted Scarlett...

Freaking thank you. Banner is literally the first time that she's had a romantic interest whatsoever in these movies. People jumped on the Black Widow/Hawkeye bandwagon without even bothering to think it through all that much. And in TWS, she was literally trying to set Cap up with other women throughout the entire movie. People are funny sometimes.

No one would ever make this joke about Evans or Ruffalo though. Hell, Tony Stark is the perfect example of a man-whore and nobody ever brings that up. It's only ever joked about when it involves a woman. Not that I'm personally offended by Renner's joke, but that's the double standard.

I still think the Hulk and Black Widow thing came way out of left field. In the film Bruce is just as dumfounded as to why Widow wants to form a relationship with him as the people watching the movie are. Nothing up till the release of this movie has alluded to or shown a spark between either characters. The only characters Widow has shown to have a slight spark with is between Captain America and Hawkeye, and we can see that Hawkeye has a wife and kids, and Captain America has....well....being Captain America. Whedon painted himself into a creative corner when it came to who Widow would settle down with.
