BOX OFFICE: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Has Huge Thursday Night Debut; Passes $300M WW

Avengers: Age of Ultron is far outperforming The Avengers so far, debuting with a record amount for a superhero movie in North America last night, and beating a record set by The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. Hit the jump for details on that and plenty of other numbers...

Well, this is impressive! Avengers: Age of Ultron debuted with $27.6 million last night, a considerable amount more than The Avengers' haul of $18.7 million back in 2012.

That obviously indicates a huge weekend at the box office for the sequel, and those estimates of a record shattering $230 million total are looking more and more likely at this stage. The Marvel vs. DC fanboys should also be glad to hear that the movie broke the Thursday IMAX record of The Dark Knight Rises, taking $3 million compared to that threequel's still impressive $2.3 million.

So, where does Avengers: Age of Ultron stand right now? It's taken $27.6 million domestic, $287.3 million internationally, thereby giving it a worldwide total of $314.9 million. That's after just one week of release and less than 24 hours in North America. Have you seen the sequel yet?

Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Cobie Smulders, Don Cheadle, Paul Bettany, James Spader, and Samuel L. Jackson and is now in cinemas everywhere!

A lot of the hate for this movie that is coming from this website is mainly DC fanboys trying to find a chink in Marvel's armor. The irony of that is that the "chink" is that this movie is aimed primarily at fanboys which isn't a criticism to make on this website. A lot of the mainstream critics hated it because they probably only ever saw other Marvel movies once and they definitely don't know what an infinity stone is.

AOU is a glorious movie because it has the chance to become the highest grossing film of all time and it's a 2 and half hour nerd fest.

Why are people disliking this movie? I like ALL comic book movies. This was a great, epic, summer blockbuster, popcorn eating movie. It's not trying to get an oscar. It does what it's supposed to and does it well. The bottom line is, is it worth your money? Yes it is. You won't be disappointed.

From what ive heard, people say its "not as fun" as the first one but if by that they mean "not as campy or light hearted" then im all for it.
