BOX OFFICE: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Set To Smash US Records With $230M Debut

Some comic book "fans" have relished pointing out the fact that Avengers: Age of Ultron's Rotten Tomatoes score isn't as high as its predecessor, but those of you thinking that means it will flop may want to think again after seeing these record demolishing box office projections...

Avengers: Age of Ultron opened at #1 in 44 countries last week, earning over $200 million in a matter of days. However, Deadline has now updated their projections for the sequel's domestic debut, and things are looking very good for Marvel Studios once again. Conservative estimates have the movie opening around the $200 million mark, meaning it would possibly come in slightly lower or around the same amount as The Avengers. More likely however is the movie beating its record breaking 2012 bow with a haul of between $210 million - $230 million. Whatever happens, Marvel can't lose as even a rival studio distribution chief admitted to the site, "If the film opens and makes $190 million, and comes in as the second highest grossing weekend of all-time, how can that be anything but great?!" Whatever happens, it's a guaranteed hit! Poor old Warner Bros., eh?

It's worth noting the Avengers: Age of Ultron is outselling Furious 7's opening weekend ($147 million) in advance sales by as much as three times. The fact that movies now open at 7pm instead of midnight will also help the sequel, and a number of ticket selling websites are reporting levels of interest in the movie which are way beyond that shown in billion dollar blockbusters like The Avengers and Iron Man 3. It's going to be an interesting weekend, and one which hopefully gives us an idea whether or not the movie will be able to top $1.5 billion...can Marvel steal Avatar's crown?

Glad. Can't wait to contribute to the film when Friday finally gets here. Been a looming long wait.

Iron Man II made a TON of monoey and its RT scores were not close to IM1.

This thing is going to rake it in.

Completely unrelated sidenote- I've just been listening to the 'Beautiful Crime' song from Daredevil, and I now have a sudden urge to put on a black tea cosy and prowl the streets of New York beating the shit out of Russian gangsters.

Josh why are you trolling? You don't need to put WB and DC in a Marvel Article. Their time will come when BvS release. I'm sure you'll have more negative to say even if the film was amazing.

Some serious flame bait content in this article. Lol. Smh.

Anyhow, its crazy how pre-ticket sales are selling 4 times more than the amount of the first one.

Rotten who? I knew this bad boy would be smashing records everywhere. I don't care about the RT score, saw it 3 times and I think it is amazing!

Anyway AoU is at 74% RT and the movie hasn't even been release in the US yet. Once all the review are in i expect it to be at 55-60%.

People are more concerned about Marvel's profits than the quality of the movie Marvel gives them. If only every business could have such loyal customers.

"I don't care if my Big Mac sucked, I just want McDs to make record profits!"

"Who gives a damn if my Toyota sucks? I bought it to boost Toyota sales!"

Wondering whether or not Star Wars could top this. Anyhow, I'm seeing this on Saturday and I could give two shits about the RT score. I expect it to go up a little anyway.

I just hope this doesn't devour any chance of Mad Max Fury Road getting some good money. R-rated, $150 mill budget, released merely two weeks after AOU and premieres the same week as that estrogen-fest Pitch Perfect 2. Man, I'll be pissed at everyone and everything if it bombs.

this is flame bait. If you want people to root for its success josh you should follow the cue of whedon and evans and avoid the swipes. Focus on yourself is one of the best lessons I was thought as a kid. This film has problems and in the long term I believe it will tell. Regardless I a fan of the genre and root for all films to do well. but I dont want anymore goofiness no more cringeworthy dance offs or unthreatening goofy robots. Lets have more like the winter soldier.

"Wondering whether or not Star Wars could top this."

It's gonna be crazy entertaining to watch it as it happens, but I bet Age of Ultron ends up close to $2 billion, but not quite (probably around $1.8, $1.9).

The Force Awakens will be well over $2 billion. As close as you can get to being a guarantee, IMO.

I haven't watched a single frame of footage since the final trailer, and I barely remember the sequence of events besides minor bits. I'm so [frick]ing ready.
