Joss Whedon Interested In Helming DC Comics Adaptation; Shares WONDER WOMAN Regrets

Joss Whedon has made it clear that he's taking a break from Marvel after Avengers: Age of Ultron, but is he lobbying for one of the upcoming DC Comics adaptations? He'd like to helm one, but believes that his humorous approach probably won't be welcome in the grim world of Batman v Superman...

Joss Whedon has made it clear both before and during promotion for Avengers: Age of Ultron that the sequel will be his last Marvel movie for the forseeable future. He's not bluffing either, as Joe and Anthony Russo were recently confirmed as helming the two-part Avengers: Infinity War. However, while Whedon has been talking a lot about creating something original, the filmmaker tells IGN that he's more than ready to take a crack at a DC Comics adaptaion. "Sure. I’d be like 'I have all these joke ideas.' And they’d be like 'No, we don’t do that here,'" he teased, before adding: "I desperately wanted to do a Batman film – who doesn’t? And I wanted to do Wonder Woman. I was a Marvel kid growing up, but I was always DC-curious. And I see myself on the spectrum in between." A new Batman movie is exected at some point in the next few years, and Warner Bros. would be wise to consider Whedon for the job, even if he does want to inject some humour into the Caped Crusader's world. After all, would that really be such a bad thing?

As for Wonder Woman - a movie which the director was developing back in 2005 - it doesn't sound like he has any interest in taking over from Michelle MacLaren, but feigned grief at the prospect of someone other than him taking the helm. "I don’t care who she’s seeing now. We don’t talk much. And I wish her well! I worked really hard on that movie and it meant a lot, but I don’t know if what I was trying to do would fit in with what their vision is. I’m excited to see it so I just want them to make it so I can see it!" Would you guys like to see Whedon take on a DC Comics adaptation? As always, share your thoughts on the filmmaker's comments in the usual place!

Is there like a treatment or script outline to his Wonder Woman movie? I's like to see what he came up with.

I don't want Whedon anywhere near Batman or Justice League, Flash solo movie would be a better option for him.

Good riddance. His marvel movies suck. Go to DC where you belong you hack. You and Snyder would make a perfect team.

He would fit better with Green Lantern, Flash or Shazzam

I think he's a much better TV director/writer than film,
I think he should do more TV.

The Flash, Shazam maybe...

I think he'd be best for Shazam or Flash. One of the more light-hearted DC characters.
Love this guy's work and loved AOU. I can totally understand why he'd like a break from big-budget CBMs for a while, but I do hope he stays on to help guide Phase 3. Dude's a genuine talent, and it'd be a shame for Marvel to lose him.

After Buffy, he forgot how to write women.
I'm not gonna shit over what he's done, but he can't write women anymore.
Yeah, Black Widow sucked in both the Avengers films.

"I have all these joke ideas"

No thanks

Anyways, I think he will indeed end up getting a DC movie in future, probably Shazam which is fine by his style and tone.

He's Wonder Woman script was pretty awful and a helluva no to Priyanka Chopra. I would love to see him do Flash especially since Quicksilver's running was marvellous(see what I did there). Booster Gold would also be cool.

"A new Batman movie is exected at some point in the next few years, and Warner Bros. would be wise to consider Whedon for the job"

No they wouldn't. There's no way he'd fit with the version of Gotham and Batman they're introducing in BvS - he's far too different tonally. It seems like this new Batman is being set up for direction from the likes of Affleck himself; if not him then someone in the vein of David Fincher, Dennis Villeneuve, or even Darren Aronofsky, etc. who is suited to macabre, gritty, ground level fiction.

Whedon would be better suited to something like The Flash, Shazam or maybe Green Lantern, or if he had to be involved with the Bat-family then maybe Batgirl or Nightwing, although I imagine even they would be a stretch, tonally speaking.

I doubt he'd work for DC though. He left the Avengers movies because he wants to focus on his own original stuff; if he's going to be involved in CBMs at all, it'll probably still be with Marvel Studios, in a consulting role.

@TheDudeRusty Booster Gold would also be a good fit for him, good thinking! That also makes me think maybe he could make a decent Blue Beetle or Atom movie.

Why Priyanka Chopra is attached to WW conversation? Was Joss going to cast her?

Whedon rules. He'd be perfect for a Booster Gold/Blue And Gold movie. Out of the announced slate I say Green Lantern or Shazam.
