Kevin Feige's Marvel Contract Renewed; Says There Won't Be Any "Dark Turns" In The MCU

According to a moderator from Reddit's Marvel Studios thread who attended a pre-screening of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Kevin Feige's Marvel "contract was renewed recently, but he would not say much on the subject." While there he had a brief interview with Marvel CEO Kevin Feige and he took down some interesting notes from that interview that revealed Feige's initial thoughts about the MCU. Feige says no matter how bad a trailer might look, the film will never disappoint! Check out the notes below!

"There is no dark turn in the MCU. He says every year fans come up to him and ask him if this movie is when the MCU goes "dark" or takes a "dark" turn. He said while the trailers may seem ominous or have a sense of impending doom, the movies do not have that feel, and will not. He said he "Hoped people would catch on by now" - there will be no giant dark turns in the MCU where it then continues to head in that direction. The humor is in the DNA of the movies, there are no plans to change that."

With all this recent news about Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, it doesn't seem like it's going to take a turn for the worst anytime soon! Expect an official statement by Feige/Marvel regarding his contract renewal soon! To see more notes or snippets of that session, click the link below! Until then, sound off below in the comment section and tell what you think Marvel's greatest moment was thus far!

Well at least they're being consistent, just wish the trailers would be more unique/representative of the movies themselves.

Same here, Nova. Their brand of humor has been with us since the 1st Iron Man movie, so complaining about its existence now is like complaining that an action movie has action in it.

Obviously it needs to be effective and put there for a reason (Guardians of the Galaxy and both Avengers movies are perfect examples of this), but I do like to have fun while watching these movies AND see the characters have fun, too. Humor doesn't automatically mean that the drama and stakes become nonexistent. In fact, in most cases, that contrast can make the more dramatic bits stand out even MORE.

All the editors most likely HATE that we're doing this haha.

@SauronsBANE

I feel, at least, that the humor in IM was superior than any humor we've been given in the Marvel Movies thus far (except Winter Soldier, that was a good balance). So, I think complaining about the humor being lackluster isn't exactly unwarranted.

It was a no brainer.
Wish I could see the figures though. How much is he making ?

@MarkyMarkRises Oh don't get me wrong, I have nothing against people who have legitimate gripes with how the humor is sometimes handled (I can think of a few instances in Thor 2 and Iron Man 3 that leap out to me, for example). But I've seen plenty of folks complain that the humor is there AT ALL, and that is what I take issue with.

@SauronsBANE

Humor is important, even Nolan understands that, and he's reputable for being "dark/gritty."

Anyone who wants a movie with no humor is probably an angsty teen or someone who doesn't get movies

Exactly what Omega said.

@MarkyMarkRises Couldn't agree more!

I like and enjoy that these movies are humorous. CBM's shouldn't take themselves to seriously, even the dark ones. Good to see Feige will be with MS for the next few years.

Still, I hope there will come a movie where the bad guy wins. Just to have some fun with the formula.

The Russo brothers brought in Chris McKenna, who they worked with on Community, to add a little humor to Winter Soldier because they thought it was too dark/serious at times. I had no problem with the humor in it.
(Plus, McKenna is awesome! He wrote arguably the best, most creative/clever episode of Community, "Remedial Chaos Theory.")

As for Iron Man 1, it's funny looking back how they used the Wile E. Coyote sound effect when Stark crashed the Mark 1 suit in the desert. And despite that it's still one of my favorite movies in the MCU. hahaha.

I hate Thor: The Dark World's humor. But this is some great news. I wonder just how far their plan for the MCU extends.

@0megaDaGr0dd

Exactly! Thank you. I thought Age of Ultron was a very dark movie, despite the humor. Iron Man 3 was also quite dark, overall. Humor keeps it likeable, I think. People just like to complain. And if they are DC super fans, they just want to bash Marvel movies in the hopes that DC will produce something good again, like Dark Knight and a few others.

I don't need the Marvel movies to get super dark or the DC movies to get lighthearted, they're both unique and I like that.

The only time there's ever anything wrong with Marvel's humor is when,

A. It's out of place or destroys tension

B. It get's too childish/delves into slapstick territory

Aside from those reasons Marvel can feel free to pile on the jokes as far as I care. It adds levity, gives the characters personality, and shows that Marvel knows their place in the world.

Glad Feige is sticking around, even though I'm still unsure about how he treats talent like Whedon and co.

All the bad rep gets attributed to random Marvel Execs, but Feige is THE Marvel Exec, so I'm starting to wonder if he's not just as much of a problem as he is a solution.
