NO SPOILERS: Why I am going to avoid watching any AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRONS Trailers

Avengers: Age of Ultron is one of the most anticipated movies for Geeks, Movie-Goers, and Movie-going geeks everywhere.

But as a Movie-going geek, I have decided that I will not watch any Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, and here's why...

How many of you say things like "I feel like I've seen the whole film already"? I'm pretty sure most of you have. Although it's not completely true, because films can still surprise us with the directions they take. But there are some scenes, and cameos, that get spoiled because of trailers.

The advertising departments want to feed us as much as they can. That's great and all, but the trailers and ads should be like an appetizer, they shouldn't feel like the whole buffet.

I came out of The Amazing Spiderman 2 liking it alot. But I didn't love it like I should have because the advertising department screwed the pooch.

There are things that I knew going into the Amazing Spiderman 2, that I really shouldn't have known until AFTER it happened.

Another example is Dawn of The Planet of the Apes, and I'm not talking about the whole movie, because the movie as a whole surprised me. But there was a certain scene invloving Koba ( you know which one) that was shown in the trailers.  I felt like that scene would've been far more impactful on the audience if it wasn't shown in any advertisements.

I feel the Avengers: Age of Ultron will be an awesome movie, but I pretty much want to go into it, knowing almost nothing.

Which is why I will not watch any trailers for this movie. TV spots are almost unavoidable, but seeing how I don't watch THAT much Telivision, I think I'll be fine.

I'm not going to do this with every trailer for every movie. But I want to see if not watching the trailer will enhance the experience.

So I kind of want to ask...Do you think you can do this? Can you refrain from watching any Avengers 2 related trailers? Or is it just far too difficult?  Also, have you tried this with any other movie? I really want to read your thoughts on this.

I'll probably watch a teaser trailer and that's it. I don't want to have all of the good moments spoiled for me either. I was so bummed when they showed that Koba scene in the Dawn trailer.

@Spidey5194 I'm not watching the Teaser trailer, but I can't blame someone for wanting to watch all that they can.

Some scenes should be saved for the movies I feel, and that Koba scene was the example of that.

I watch all the trailers, if i'm super excited for the film, but no clips or TV spots. I didn't watch all of them for TASM 2 though. I haven't seen one clip or TV spot from GOTG and they've had a lot.

@JDwyler444 In my defense, I'm still getting used to writing things like this. But yeah, we agree for the most part. I think movies are still able to surprise us, but there is a lot of stuff that's spoiled for us that would've been surprising had we not already seen it in the trailer.

Have you tried drinking?

ndwwrestler2 - 7/16/2014, 12:55 PM
@TheReddestHood I can't blame you, I would do that as well. But after looking back at the movies I've seen in the past couple of years, I feel like I've gone into every single one of them knowing more than I should have.

@yossarian During or before the movie?

I made this exact same comment about Avengers 2 in an earlier thread today, and I hope I have the self-control to stick to it haha. I'm seriously making an effort to have Avengers 2 be the ONE movie I go into without having seen any major footage already. It'll be damn near impossible, because in the months leading up to it, the hype machine will be chugging along at full blast and promotion for the movie will be EVERYWHERE. But I can at least not watch any of the full-length trailers, tv spots, and clips they inevitably release.

Just watch Green Lantern right after. It's so bad, it'll make you forget the past week.

That was a lie. I've seen GOTG TV spots on TV, but they're all the same one and have footage shown in the first 3 trailers. I don't care that much though, since most movies don't try to surprise us anymore. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes had me thinking I knew what was gonna happen, but I got it all COMPLETELY wrong. Except for a few dialogue bits:

Koba: Ape not kill ape!!!
Caesar:...Koba....not...ape *drop*

I still loved it and was surprised with the movie. Can't wait for the next one, though I have no idea what the 3rd will be called. Rise...Dawn....War?

@NDW - During trailer season. I watch all sorts of trailers and drink enough to forget there is even such a place called a "movie theater." It's pretty great actually.

ndwwrestler2 - 7/16/2014, 1:03 PM
@SauronsBANE1 For me, TV Spots are unavoidable, but fortunately I don't watch A LOT of TV, so I still shouldn't be able to see too much.

But yeah, NO CLIPS and NO TRAILERS.

I have a friend that's suppose to be doing this with me, But I get the feeling it won't work out for him.

@TheReddestHood I'm thinking War for the Planet of the Apes.

@JillyMcBeam Yeah...That was pretty bad.

@yossarian Ah...Getting drunk. That doesn't work too well with people like me.

@cipher That sounds sort of like me and food. And the treadmill in my room reminds me of constant failures.

ndw- Who's that in your avatar, by the way, bud? I've been meaning to ask you for a while now. I look at it.. and I think that maybe Nightcrawler got fed up with the Xavier's Institute's stance on impromptu games of teleportational grabass and joined up with Vader's imperial army or somethin'. I mean, I know that's not him, but yeah..

:)

@kinghulk Yeah. That's why I'm only going to do it for this movie. Because I don't know how strong I can be during the process.

@Superhero96 No shame in that. My own friends are sceptical about me doing this, and I honestly can't blame them.

Good for you I hope I can have the self control not to watch any of the trailers or t.v. spots to but I probably won't we will see.

@ndw
I might try this. Given the fact I've stayed strong and not watched any Guardians things for 2 weeks, I think I could manage this.
DR3D
DR3D - 7/16/2014, 4:56 PM
I've stopped watching trailers for movies I know I'll see in theatres. I even go so far as to close my eyes and plug my ears for the trailers they show in theatres. Everything seems fresh and I love it. It's not for everyone sure.
ndwwrestler2
ndwwrestler2 - 7/16/2014, 6:04 PM
@MrSotoMan If the movie is as good as I hope, then the payoff will be huge at least.

@pesmerga44 Like I said, TV spots are unavoidable, but avoiding trailers shouldn't be a problem as long as you remember the goal and ignore the inevitable hype train.

@NovaCorpsFan 2 weeks? I'm talking about almost a year.

@DredStar I don't plan on doing this for every movie. But that's probably awesome to be able to go into the movies you want to see without watching a trailer.
NovaCorpsFan
NovaCorpsFan - 7/16/2014, 6:06 PM
@ndw
I know, I was somewhat joking, but I might give this a try.
UltimateCookie
UltimateCookie - 7/16/2014, 6:14 PM
I'll avoid the trailers simply because there are so many rumors and theories surrounding the movie that when I see it I don't want any prior knowledge as a comic book fan going in. For example there rumor of Planet Hulk taking place in the next phase if I hear Tony Stark say something in the trailer similar to "We have to get rid of him" I'm going into the film with Planet Hulk expectations. If it happens then I'm less shocked and if it doesn't then I'm dissapointed.
UltimateCookie
UltimateCookie - 7/16/2014, 6:16 PM
@TheReddestHood Unless you're paying super-close attention (which some fans will) the GOTG TV spots have been super repetitive and have only explained stuff about the characters we already knew like that Groot only say "I am Groot".
ndwwrestler2
ndwwrestler2 - 7/16/2014, 6:20 PM
@NovaCorpsFan I figured you might've been joking, Just wasn't sure...Yeah that's probably more of a blemish on me for not knowing.

But let me know if you succeed.

@CookieKid247 I get what you're saying, but don't you think that means you should avoid rumors as well?

MightyZeus
MightyZeus - 7/16/2014, 6:41 PM
Yeah i've learned by watching TASM 2 trailers, tv spots, looking at still's it actually spoiled the film for me and i thought there was way too much being shown. When i saw the film, nothing surprised me except for the fact that i had just endured a terrible film.

GOTG is releasing a lot of trailers, tv spots and stills and the promotion of the film is reminding me off TASM 2's promotion where there is just too much.

Someone on youtube summed it up with trailers and if they are spoiling too much or ruining movies.
UltimateCookie
UltimateCookie - 7/16/2014, 6:41 PM
@ndwwrestler2 I try but I have a rumor addiction, especially if it's something I really want to see like Planet Hulk.
