BATMAN BEYOND Animated Movie From FAST 9 Writer Reportedly In Development At DC Studios

Though it may not come to fruition under new DC Studios leadership, it's now come to light that an animated Batman Beyond movie from Fast 9 writer Daniel Casey is still in-development...

Just before the news broke that James Gunn and Peter Safran were taking over as DC Studios co-CEOs, the trades reported that Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson had been working on a live-action Batman Beyond movie with Michael Keaton in mind to star as the older Bruce Wayne.

The project was said to have been dropped when the new DCU slate was put together, but we're now hearing that a separate BB adaptation was - and may still be - in development.

According to Jeff Sneider on the latest episode of the Hot Mic podcast, Fast 9 writer Daniel Casey penned a script for an animated Batman Beyond movie back when Walter Hamada was still in charge that was supposedly being developed as Warner Bros.' answer to Sony's Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse franchise.

"As of this minute, the project is in development at DC now," said Sneider. "These guys could get called in next week. This is the project that I've heard has never been reported, and there are multiple drafts of it."

It's unclear if the film will ultimately happen at DC Studios, but it doesn't sound like it's been shelved, which may bode well for it eventually moving forward.

Who knows - we may even get an official announcement during the second part of the DCU "Chapter 1" slate reveal.

I actually rewatched Return of the Joker with a friend the other day and thought, "man, they really should have kept these Beyond films going!" It would have been really nice to have a Beyond film every few years in the DC animated slate.

Unfortunately, with Conroy passing, the best story they could do would be how Terry handles the passing of Bruce Wayne. I would definitely still be interested though...

Get the dang cast back together, Gunn!

Unless it's by the original team (and it can't be because Conroy's gone now), we don't need another animated Batman Beyond film. That isn't the Batman Beyond movie we need.

@Splash - I'm guessing it would be a new iteration of Batman Beyond without any ties to the original canon.

Batman Beyond LIVE ACTION trilogy is what we deserve, ffs.

@PlusUltra - Let's not limit it to a trilogy. In fact, nothing should be limited to a trilogy. Just make a new series and end it when it feels like it's run its course.

@PlusUltra - TV Show, if they make Arrow why not Batman Beyond.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 3/3/2023, 8:47 AM
@CorndogBurglar - That rarely ends well. Just look at the MCU right now, and plenty of other series that have been left to run it’s course. At least with a trilogy, it has a beginning, middle and end. A complete story that won’t be sullied by creatively bankrupt ideas just to keep it going.

@PlusUltra - You're not wrong. But to me trilogies always feel like they don't cover enough ground. We know there are other things out there to see.

And the MCU isn't suffering right now because of how many Captain America movies there were. Or how many Thor movies there were. Thor suffered because they got the wrong director to make them. Captain America 2 and 3 were both awesome and could have easily continued.

The MCU as a whole is suffering for other reasons.

@CorndogBurglar - There’s always more to see, but it doesn’t mean it needs to be shown. Captain America had what is considered the best trilogy in the MCU, and the best arc next to Iron Man, but a major factor in that is ending their story on a high rather than letting it run it’s course just because they can.

@PlusUltra - And Keaton's Batverse would have been perfect for it.

Yup. This had to have been real. Just shelved at the time.

i was excited, until i saw Fast9 writer involved. That movie was dogsh*t so my level of excitement went wayyyy down... which is too bad cuz as a kid i loved watching this show
CorndogBurglar

@MotherGooseUPus - Why? The Fast and Furious series is literally a cartoon with real people.
MotherGooseUPus
MotherGooseUPus - 3/3/2023, 8:52 AM
@CorndogBurglar - thats true, but, even with it being a cartoon you still need a good writer to tell a good coherent story... and honestly fast9 has had the worst story in the series. it was literally all over the place, not cohesive and was backtracking and seemed like it was made up on the fly... so i have no faith in this at the moment

@MotherGooseUPus - Oh I know what you mean man lol. I was just making a joke. The Fast series is insane. I actually love the first one and Tokyo Drift. But the rest are garbage and I can't even call them guilty pleasures.

@MotherGooseUPus - I was excited to but this writer is not good at all. I'm a fan of the Fast franchise and have watched every movie multiple times...except 9. Watched it once and did not like then went back to watch again thinking maybe 2nd time would change my mind which happens from time to time but nope I hated it even more. Disliked it so much I'm not sure I will watch the next one, I'm leaning towards not doing so.

I loved the series they made but I’d rather get some live action movie stuff than another animated version. I’ll still watch it but the animated movies don’t get me excited anymore.

We need a live-action Batman Beyond
Vigor
Vigor - 3/3/2023, 9:14 AM
@LeonNova - a live action batman beyond with the style factor of say 90s Spawn or Blade. And the cinematography of winter soldier or civil war. Give Terry an extremely likeable persona like Bradley Cooper in limitless.

I mean the movie will print money

I don’t know who I would want as old Bats. Keaton doesn’t seem grumpy enough. I always liked old, crusty Bats as the mentor.

Maybe Jeffrey Dean Morgan or Mads Mikkelson….

Just because it was in development at WB doesn't mean it's still in development at DC Studios.

We already have an animated Batman Beyond, and it is amazing. With Kevin passed on, they need to go live action or leave it alone.

Seeing as Elseworld stories are a thing in the new DCU, I would love them to turn the original Justice League Mortal script into an animated movie
