My "Batman Begins" review.

HISTORY-
In 1989 we were all presented with the very first live action Batman film (I think we can all forget the Adam West film) simply titled "Batman." This was the film that started everything. Not just the Batman film franchise, but the want for a darker, more grounded Bat-film. Tim Burton's film was a dark and Gothic take on the character, yet everyone loved it. That opened a lot of doors for future versions. When Tim Burton released his sequel in 1992, it came under a lot of criticism for being a tad bit too dark for peoples tastes. Skip ahead to about 2003 When Christopher Nolan was brought aboard as director of Warner Bros. inevitable reboot and departure from Bat-nipples...

BATMAN BEGINS-
In 2005 the doors at movie theaters all around the world opened to "Batman Begins." The film a financial and critical success, garnering praise for its reality based innovation and deterring from mindless CGI filled summer blockbusters. The film was smart, cool, and a great way to introduce a newer generation to the caped crusader. The story follows Bruce Wayne from his parents' untimely death, at the hands of mugger Joe Chill, through his journey to fight crime by getting locked up with the criminals to his eventual training by the mysterious Henri Ducard. Bruce's return to Gotham after years of self exile allowed to feel ready to take on the criminal underworld, corrupt officials, and crazed villains.
The film was at the birth of director Christopher Nolan's rise to fame, so the plot still utilized his branded non-linear plot structure, which can be confusing to follow at times, but eventually levels out about a third of the way into the film. Some plot elements seem to be less than dramatic, mainly Thomas and Martha Wayne's death. The scene was edited to give you the feel that everything was happening really fast, which it does, it just doesn't leave you felling bad for Bruce all that much.

Christian Bale was cast perfectly as Batman. He looks as though he carries that brooding tone with him all through his life, but can also be as happy as a regular Joe. Katie Holmes did good for a role her husband bought for her...and Liam Neeson was honestly my favorite part about this movie. He wasn't necessarily evil, yet not entirely good. And the rest of the supporting cast did as great s they could have possibly done. Gary Oldman was the definitive Jim Gordon, and Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman do amazingly as Bruce's support for his decision to fight crime.

OVERALL-
When all is said and done, this movie is quite the treat. and incredible story combined with an all-star cast sprinkled with rough around the edges characters adds up to a completely satisfying introduction into Batman's history and Origins.
