While taking part in an AMA (Ask Me Anything) over on Reddit, Irish actor Pierce Brosnan ("James Bond" and "Mrs Doubtfire") revealed that he once met with director Tim Burton to play the (comic book) world's greatest detective, Batman! Bronson was offered the role but turned it down because he believed the concept could never be taken seriously on the big screen. Here's what he had to say:
"I went and met with Tim Burton for the role of Batman. But I just couldn't really take it seriously, any man who wears his underpants outside his pants just cannot be taken seriously. That was my foolish take on it. It was a joke, I thought. But how wrong was I?"
While Brosnan seemed less than impressed with the Dark Knight's formal wear, he went on to talk about his childhood memories of the caped crusader, saying "I love Batman, I grew up on Batman."
Tim Burton's initial take on Batman began the evolution from campy to serious live action comic book properties and was (arguably) the most important film in the genre's early history.
