THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE Director Chris McKay Still Hopes To Make His NIGHTWING Movie For DC Studios

The Nightwing movie never became a reality in the DC Extended Universe, but filmmaker Chris McKay (The LEGO Batman Movie) has now shared his hopes to helm the project for DC Studios. Check it out...

Back when Warner Bros. attempted throwing every DCEU idea possible at the wall to see what would stick, we were getting a Nightwing movie directed by The LEGO Batman Movie helmer Chris McKay.

That generated a tonne of excitement among fans, and while no specific story details were revealed, the expectation was that it would focus on Dick Grayson's solo adventures in Blüdhaven. Announced in 2017, the Nightwing movie looked set to contradict what Justice League director Zack Snyder had planned as Dick was meant to be the Robin killed by The Joker.

There were, however, rumblings that Nightwing might make his debut in Ben Affleck's The Batman

Six years on, McKay - who is doing the rounds to promote Renfield - has told Games Radar that he remains open to making Nightwing under DC Studios' watch.

Unfortunately, they've yet to contact him!

"Look, I am still hoping to do something with it," the filmmaker admitted. "Now that James Gunn is involved...I haven't had any conversations with him or anybody over there, but I love that character. I hope I can do something with him. That would be amazing."

Matt Reeves' The Batman franchise is set to live on as an Elseworlds series, while DC Studios has already announced plans for The Brave and the Bold. That will put the Dark Knight front and centre, though he'll have Robin by his side: Damian Wayne. He's Bruce's estranged son, but whether he'll be the DCU's first Robin remains to be seen.

It's been strongly hinted that we will see other members of the Bat-Family in the movie, so Nightwing may yet have a role to play. Whether Batman has been around long enough for Jason Todd and Tim Drake to factor into the story remains to be seen.

Once the Bat-Family has been introduced, the stage will likely be set for them to have a crucial role in the DCU moving forward, meaning McKay might get his chance to direct a Nightwing feature.

For now, we're not banking on it happening anytime soon.

Chris McKay to direct "Brave and The Bold" with Nicolas Cage playing Egghead with a scar on his head like a cracked egg.

Also, I want a Bat-Verse in the style of Schumacher, but more comical and accurate. Something much better.

@Repian - Chris McKay should do Nightwing if anything. Sam Raimi for Brave and the Bold maybe? He's been really wanting to do a Batman movie recently.

I don't think they should make this Batman too light or campy. Just because it's in a fantasy universe doesn't mean it should lose what makes it Batman.
The comics Batman is in a sci-fi fantasy universe and is still pretty dark and gritty. Also they are in direct competition with Matt Reeves version, so if anything they should do what Matt Reeves does but better. An adult movie like The Batman, but even more adult and yet something that is entertaining.

Something that you don't have to be a niche fan of to watch. The Batman isn't really for general audiences, so if you can make a movie that offers everything Matt Reeves offers, but better and that actually works as a movie then you're gold.

Superman is my all time. But Batman and the Bat Fam are God tier in my brain in regard to comics teams that have RIDICULOUS potential just waiting to be explored in a long form story telling medium other than on a page, with a fancy budget and the powerhouse creative team it deserves.

With that said.... I'm not too keen on Gunn tackling Superman but, as a Superman fan, I should have more hope. I do, however, have hope for the Brave and the Bold finally giving the Bat Fam reeeeal time to shine. So much drama and betrayals and trauma and great character evolutions in the Bat Fam.

@TheVandalore - Gunn’s Superman is going to be amazing. There’s no logical reason for people to think that it won’t be amazing. Don’t let the inertia of social media mobs influence your thoughts. Gunn is a great director who hasn’t done anything wrong. Moving on from Henry and the Snyder verse had to happen otherwise they’d still be kicking that dead horse.

@KaioKen - Im an old man. I dont judge anything by social media. I judge Gunn based on me watching his films, and not seeing anything that makes me think he would be the ideal one to spearhead a Superman reboot, specifically. Im not hunting for his head. Its just my opinion, im not excited... yet. Im open to have my mind blown and my faith restored. Im just not optimistic. Im worried he may try to make it too quirky, or try to inject too much of his personal comedy style into it, which is very hit or miss for me. Gunn is pretty good at times to great at telling dark stories with heart and some raunchy comedy. But Superman, to get right in 2023, has to been done.... just right. Its gonna be a hard sell for ANY storyteller, even the greatest. Im just not convinced yet Gunn was the right guy.

But i hope im wrong.

@TheVandalore - I’ve heard the right things from him and I think we’ll get the real Clark Kent in the next movies. I think Caville was fine but definitely not great in any way. Not his fault. The entire interpretation was wrong. I’m in my 30s and understand that younger people grew up with Caville but from my perspective he wasn’t anything special that can’t be replaced. The Snyder verse was mostly terrible.

@KaioKen - Im not even talking what came before. Strictly from Gunns work, I think he will probably deliver a good film. Good enough. Probably even better than what we had. But what we had isnt my method of measurement. I want the best Superman film ever... well, actually i just want a film i feel is the best Superman movie ever, and i guess just considering my own taste and likes, Im not sold on Gunn. But im not put off i guess either. Im iffy. Im undecided. Im ready to be impressed.

I really like Pattinson in The Batman. He killed it.

But he is perfect casting for Grayson. He fits that description perfectly.

If Batman is at the stage where he has… Damien. Then that means Dick is definitely of age and probably out and about as Nightwing. It does kind of imply he won’t get his name from Superman which is something I didn’t like in Titans, but more Dick Grayson is always good

Wouldn't mind that at all. The Lego Batman movie had the best on-screen Batman since The Dark Knight, so I trust McKay with Nightwing

Hopefully Gunn will at least meet with him to discuss it, I’m sure he could do some great things with Nightwing. If not a movie, an HBO Max series could be dope.

Who could play an early-to-mid-thirties Batman?

Austin Butler is in that age range. He'd be cool.
