Batman to face off against Clayface?

Rumor: Fans are really buzzing about who Batman will face in the upcoming film The Dark Knight Rises, someone has been digging deep and came up with Clayface.

Christopher Nolan has kept his cards pretty close to his chest when its come to details for The Dark Knight Rises, only going to far as to say the villain won't be The Riddler and it won't be filmed in 3D.

So who will Batman face off against this time round?

HULIQ reports:

"The good people of the website io9.com have been putting in a lot of legwork on the subject and have come across a recent tip that leads them to believe that Clayface will indeed be Nolan's choice.

According to the website, producers of "The Dark Knight Rises" have begun holding auditions for the part of Julie Madison (actresses listed as having auditioned include Kacie Thomas and Vera Farmiga). The website also makes a Clayface connection by pointing out that, while the character has ties to Batman, her comic book history has the young woman starring in the remake of a fictional classic horror movie, 'The Terror,' which previously starred Basil Karlo.

Who is Basil Karlo and why is this important, you ask?

In the Batman comic book series, Karlo becomes enraged when he learns that 'The Terror' is being remade and goes on a crime and murder spree donning the mask of the villain from the film, Clayface.

If the character of Julie Madison is indeed cast for "The Dark Knight Rises," it is a very good chance that there could also be the inclusion of Clayface in Nolan's third film."

Additonal information direct from the io9 site says:

"Still the most interesting thing about Madison is her involvement with the villain Clayface. Madison is eventually cast to remake a classic film that originally starred B-list movie star Basil Karlo, an actor not handling his aging very gracefully. Naturally Kalo is beyond pissed about the remake, and decides to start murdering all of the people involved, until Batman intervenes. Who knows if this storyline would turn up in the film, but the Clayface-Julie Madison connection seems promising.

I know these rumors are a little heartbreaking for Catwoman fans, but this totally backs our previous guess that Clayface would turn up in this film. Plus the vain-actor version of Clayface is just dying for the gritty Nolan touch. This storyline is almost too perfect in its timeliness, with all the remakes running rampant in Hollywood."

Interesting news - I am not too familiar with Clayface so not sure what to think about this.

The first Clayface Basil Karlo was just a crazy actor he could work if he is not given any of the later superpowers he had none at first the second more famous Clayface did then all others resembled him even Basil.

HOVIS @ Agreed, hell, WB can use CLAYFACE and KILLER CROC etc after Nolan's trilogy lol?!?

Even tho the so called NOLANVESE IS in the DC Universe, characters like that should be brought in after him.

Are people even thinking before they jump to conclusion on the villain... The way the films have been so far, you will most likely not see killer crock or clayface or any of those character...

These films are going for more realism

What about HUSH?? I was re-reading HUSH last night and I thought the character of HUSH could make a great villain in this film

Well im pretty sure in Batman TAS, "Clayface" was an actor that used special make up stuff to copy peoples faces and impersonate them.... until something happened and he became the big blob of goo.

If anything the first part of that could work in "realistic" nolanverse.. he would end up being a villain more like Spider-Man's Chameleon.

Lol, we could get Hush and Clayface and have a realism plastic surgery extravaganza.

@Paulley

That was a hyrbid Clayface mixing and matching things.

I think Clayface could work maybe mix the crazy actor who wears his Horror movie costume and mix him with Flaseface who was a master of disguise.

"The original Clayface, Basil Karlo, appeared in Detective Comics #40. He is an actor who is driven mad when he hears of a remake of the classic horror film he had starred in, The Terror, even though he is to be one of the advising staff. Donning the mask of the film's villain, Clayface, he embarks on a murder spree among the cast and crew of the remake. He is foiled by Batman and Robin. He reappears in Detective Comics #49 (March 1941) after the prison ambulance he is riding in plunges off a cliff. He once again dons the mask of Clayface and targets Bruce Wayne's fiancée, Julie Madison. Once again, the Dynamic Duo foil the evil Karlo."

But I don't see Clayface in the movie based on Julie Madison in the movie I don't even think that piece of news is real.

If the villains are any of these characters im more than happy!
Hush, Bane, Red Hood (He could work in the movie if he would be a son of Henri Ducard/Ra´s Al Ghul. That would be pretty cool. Seeing him destroying Gotham and dealing with Black Mask like in Under the Red Hood.), Talia Al Ghul, The Penguin, Rupert Thorne, Clayface (Basil Karlo), Dr. Hugo Strange, The Great White Shark (Warren White), Deadshot, Firefly, David Cain (He would be a great villain too. Maybe working for Talia, Penguin, Hush or Black Mask with Deadshot), Anarky (the adult version) And Black Mask.

Two-Face comeback wouldnt be bad either.

The guy at Batman on Film said he doesn't think there's anything to the Madison/Essen rumor, and he's usually spot-on (seemingly thanks to a well-developed relationship with Warners, and despite the fact that he harbors some weird "Batman should never interact with other superheroes" grudge).

some of you dont get that it would not be the goopy transforming mush monster clayface, but an actor dressed as a 50s horror monster, also killer croc can be done in nolans series, look up "harlequin ichthyosis"

I really think it's going to be the better part of a year before we know something real. Nolan and company have been so tight lipped, I doubt anything will slip. Even if we get a name, it's probably false.

Hovis, first off, those rumors originated HERE! If your going to use io9's quotes then link back to them, not Huliq. And this is all just speculation on their part based on the rumors..that once again started on CBM. So yeah.

I think Clayface could work, but why would you have this angle? You have had two intense anti-gang movies and then you follow it up with "horror actor gone mad?" This makes no sense to me from a thematic standpoint.

To me, I'd like to see Killer Croc or Bane (preferably Bane.) Both could provide the physical challenge that the Joker just couldn't. They can be 'super-ish' without being 'super' in Nolan's universe. Either of these guys could attract the following of the city's gangs as their last remaining hope against Batman since the Joker apparently failed. Moreover, Bane could break Batman's back like in the comics and provide 'the end that's not really an end' for both Nolan and WB.

Just some thoughts...

"Backs your previous guess"? Whatever. Must be nice to blow in the wind with your "predictions." I guess your "pick" of Clayface goes right along with your love of Nolan's "realism" ha. Maybe just maybe its a nice casting designed to pay homage to the vast Bat-universe just like the great mob characters were in the last film. Just chill, a huge announcement is coming soon so hold on to your bat nipples.

I'm sure it's more of a cameo thing or an easter egg. like zaz in the first one. Someone like Hush or the resurrection of Rah's Al Ghul would be pretty sweet. But I'm sure anything Nolan comes up with for the plot will work well with the villians.
