"FANS have gone into a "frenzy" trying to buy advance tickets for the final Batman film The Dark Knight Rises, crashing the Sydney and Melbourne IMAX websites. Thousands of people per minute visited the IMAX Theatre Sydney website when tickets went on sale at 1pm.

IMAX Theatre Sydney CEO Mark Bretherton said the ticketing software "crashed" for 20 minutes as fans tried to purchase tickets for the film, which opens in cinemas on Thursday, July 19. "It was a frenzy," he said. "You have the die hards who have to see it first, the crazy ones where nothing but the midnight sessions will do. There are some serious fans out there."

Frustrated fans took to the IMAX Sydney Facebook page to voice their outrage, "Had four tickets to midnight screening and the bastard f***ing crashed," posted Jake Small. Garry Robinson added: "Sold out before the link would even appear for me. Nice one."

Tom Dixon: "Had my seats picked and details in correctly, got told there was a problem and to try again. Tried again: This session is sold out. So f***ing mad." The Dark Knight Rises features an extra hour of footage only available in IMAX. Mr Bretherton compared the demand to that experienced with the Harry Potter franchise and said they may put on extra sessions, including at 3.30am. "It's possible to open it up to more sessions but we're limited because we are a single screen and there only 24 hours in one day," he said.

Running Time: 2 hrs 40 min [rumored]
Release Date: July 20 2012 (USA)
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Starring: Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Juno Temple, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman

Written by: Jonathan Nolan (screenplay), Christopher Nolan (screenplay), David S. Goyer (story)

The Dark Knight Rises is an upcoming superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan, who co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan Nolan and the story with David S. Goyer. Based on the DC Comics character Batman, the film will be the third installment in Nolan's Batman film series, and is a sequel to Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008). The Dark Knight Rises is intended to be the conclusion of the series. It stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman. The film will take place eight years after the events of The Dark Knight and will introduce the characters of Selina Kyle and Bane—portrayed by Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy, respectively—two villains from the Batman mythology.

antonio - 6/11/2012, 5:59 AM
@RunDTC yes, TDKR is the first movie to ever feature an hour of IMAX footage. The actual film won't be an hour longer in IMAX, just the amount of footage.

That would be pretty sweet. Have new footage exclusive footage only in IMAX like the Transformers movies(only 100x better). All I know is advanced ticket sales for this film are going to be insane.

No. It doesn't appear so. Don't expect them to show in IMAX. None of Marvel's marathons were in IMAX. Too expensive.

@Monkeyballs that would have been great, but with a scar like that in Nolan's world, I doubt he would have survived for long. But Aaron was tremendous in what he worked with.

Did Prometheus crash Imax websites like TDKR is doing?
MadTitan
MadTitan - 6/11/2012, 7:34 AM
just like teabag mentioned, it's not the full proof indication of it's guaranteed domination when it does finally came out. i won't predict any ceilings for a box office sales as this would be too early to tell. right now i'm not convinced it might reach the Avengers earnings that easily considering of the multiple times debated reason here.

Prometheus was a little bit of a disappointment... at least for me. It was good but too much build up with too much expectations. Maybe if I didn't build it up or have high expectations then it would have been better.
RocketMadnessBoss
RocketMadnessBoss - 6/11/2012, 7:37 AM
I panicked. For a second, I thought they meant that for those that don't go to an IMAX theater, they'll miss out on an hour of footage. Stupid Rocket.
