Chris Nolan On The Decision Not To Film The Dark Knight Rises In 3D And Heath Ledger!

In a fascinating interview with Deadline about his 2010 hit, Inception, the director also dropped in a few interesting bits of information about about the past and future Batman movies. Be sure to follow the link at the bottom of this article to read that, and check out the Caped Crusader related highlight below.

On Why He Decided Not To Film The Dark Knight Rises In 3D:

"In the case of Batman, I view those as iconic, operatic movies, dealing with larger-than-life characters. The intimacy that the 3D parallax illusion imposes isn’t really compatible with that. We are finishing our story on the next Batman, and we want to be consistent to the look of the previous films."

On How He Felt When Heath Ledger Won A Posthumous Oscar:

" I was extremely gratified to see people responding to work that I knew was great. And I was very proud to have been a part in its creation, or at least in creating a world where a great artist could really show what he could do. It was a great honor to be in any way involved in that."

On The Future Of Inception And How That Relates To His Batman Movies:

"I’ve always liked the potential of the world. It’s an infinite, or perhaps I should say an infinitesimal world that fascinates me. At the moment, we’re exploring a video game, which is something I’ve been very interested in doing for a number of years. This lends itself nicely to that. As far as sequels go, I think of Inception as one film, but that’s how I approach all my films. When I was making Batman Begins, I certainly didn’t have any thoughts of doing a second Batman film, let alone a third. You never quite know where your creative interests are going to take you, but when I was making Inception, I viewed it as a stand-alone movie."

The Dark Knight Rises is set to be released on July 20, 2012!

I really admire Nolan's single-track mind when it comes to movie making.

I'm also quite chuffed about hearing the prospect of an Inception game brought up.

I'm interested to see what Nolan cooks up for an Inception videogame. He mentions that he's wanted to make a game for awhile. I'd love to see what he can do in that medium.

What if you could create your own Limbo in the game just like Cobb did. That might be cool. Also, Nolan rocks my socks off.

how can he say he didn't have any thoughts of doing a second Batman film when he ended the first one with such a cliff hanger? I mean, the joker card at the end of Begins pretty much said, "HEY, WE'RE DOING A SEQUEL EVERYONE, AND THE JOKER IS THE VILLAIN!"

lol

I agree Nolan doesn't need 3D to make his films great. Plus Im not sold on 3D in movies that aren't CGI.

i don't understand his intimacy remark, if anything 3d makes things less intimate. The dark shade it puts over everything trumps any extra depth that may be seen.

When they figure out how to do 3d without tinted glasses, that will be when things get intimate, and the idea takes off.

Nolan might not have known he was going to do sequels to Batman Begins, but I think the studio and everyone else knew.

Sorry about the mix up with the teaser image guys! I was editing the two articles at the same time (while taking part in the latest quiz Galactus was doing, lol!) and somehow ended up giving them both the same Green Lantern picture. Refresh your browsers and you should now see Christopher Nolan smiling back at you! :)

Thank you. I personally think 3D is overblown and a waste of time and money. Good story, acting, and filming make it good or bad.
