Ever since the release of The Dark Knight, internet gossip sites have been filled with rumours about the addition of Catwoman to the next installment in the franchise - Megan Fox, Angelina Jolie, Cher and Kate Beckinsale have all been linked to the character at one point or another while actors like Johnny Depp and even Eddie Murphy have been linked to the role of The Riddler.

Last year, Warner Bros. even issued the following statement to try and quell the never ending rumour mill: "There is no script. There is no project to be cast in."

However, Nolan himself has now gone on record and admitted that he's sick of studio bosses calling him to find out whether there's any truth to the reports regardless of how ridiculous they may be! The Inception director told Contact Music, "The studio called me and said: ‘Why did you cast Cher?’ It’s clear they had been reading things online."

"At a very early stage after taking on Batman I realised it wasn’t going to be helpful to read what people were saying online," he added. "I don’t really look at the internet. I don’t even e-mail - it gives me more time to think."

@longbowhunter - The studios are filled with retards, so it'd make sense for them to buy into Cher.

It's sort of funny that the studios, who are paying for this, would assume that Nolan would consult the internet and the press first before actually talking to his bosses about his choices. If Nolan would stop dragging his feet with Batman 3, he wouldn't be harassed as much as he leads us to believe.

The Riddler should be the main antagonist, put his detective skills to the test.

He maybe tired of the rumors, but is this not the nature of film making, not just in this age of the internets but even in the past, obviously before the internet the buzz was not so noisy, but I remember when listening to my local radio stations movie news one morning that speculation was rife that David Duchovny was an option to play batman back in the late nineties.(I LOL'd very loud when I heard that.)

3 points; 1. If he doesn't read the internet thats great, I admire that; 2. Warner's executives need to get a clue; and 3 there will always be internet forums speculating the casting of comic book characters on film.

P.S. Who is the birdbrain who reported this so called rumor of Cher being Catwoman? how was that even presented as a rumor, surely even though this is a forum where freedoms of speech are encouraged and all, there should be some sense and a little editorial discretion to omit rumors that are quite obviously crud, its not helpful to read that kind of B.S.

How could anyone who'd think that Chris Nolan would ever cast Cher as Catwoman deserve to keep their job at WB, lol!? :P

All these rumours definitely get a little tiring though...just like all those shortlists we had for Captain America, and now Spider-Man,it gets tedious. On the other hand, it makes it all the more rewarding when they finally announce who they've cast and it's a great choice! (as Chris Evans was!)

These casting rumors are annoying to be sure, but they do help build up interest and hype for the films, and they also give fanboys something to chew over while thier waiting. They're almost a necessary evil.

ok who, please tell me who, ever, EVER thought eddie murphy was going to play the riddler? WHY WHY WHY WHY does this rumor still keep popping up as something people actually bought???????!!!!!!!

it is beyond me how that rumor was so popular.

if you heard "hey eddie murphy is playing the ridder!" and believed it - you should be banned form the internet for the rest of your miserable life.

please, please stop saying all us on the internet thought eddie murphy was going to play the riddler.

Okay, okay. Woah, woah, WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAH!!!! Before we start calling people names here, please explain to me WHERE & WHEN he actually STATED that he was "tired" or even "fed up"?!?!?!?!?! All he said was that he gets calls from studio execs and that he personally doesn't read the internet. Where's the freakin' fuss???

The guy is tired of all the rumors, simple as that. Just because he doesn't read on the internet doesn't mean he's not aware of misleading rumors. The guy just wants to focus on one work at a time. Anybody would be pissed.

FoxForce5 - 6/17/2010, 8:44 AM
@ OdinsBeard: the Eddie Murphy thing was more than a rumor way back for Batman Forever when Eddie was in talks with the studio to play the Riddler before Jim Carry came on board. the studio was pretty much set on a big name comedian to play the part but it hasn't been an actual rumor or anything else since that fell apart, it's just that it was considered such an odd casting choice that it's stuck in people's minds ever since and gets brought up from time to time.
Shaman
Shaman - 6/17/2010, 8:47 AM
Ryguy88- Yeah, didn't we already know that he doesn't go on the internet?

jNicholson- And because "anybody would", does that ultimately mean that Nolan is, for a fact? This here is deliberately missleading, regardless who first reported it. Don't mean to get on your case here, josh LOL. I know you had to deal with that yesterday and all LOL. But there is no indication that he is actually fed up or tired of something he doesn't even read. He seemed more "non-chalant" than anything else. Which is alot more logical for someone to be, when they aren't constantly part of what the fuss about them is in the media/internet. Maybe if we had a video or audio tape elaborating on his intonation or expression to go with the statement. But until we do, he's not fed up in the slightest.
