Long Live Nolan

Why Nolan haters are wrong

Editorial Opinion

Everyday I see a comments on how awful Nolan is and how he corrupts the DC universe. However, they seem to continuely ignore the fact that he has nothing to do with DC, besides the fact that he is using their characters. He created his own personal Batman, one that stands alone, one that has had a greater message than any other superhero movie to date. Because, Nolan's Batman is not superhero movie made for entertainment, but to stand as a symbol.
Along with this, we have the people that ignore what Nolans tells us about the movie. For instance, there will be no Robin. And some people just want too many villains. Stupidity, is what I call it. These people don't listen, they don't care. However, there will be a reboot.
I can garuntee that, and that is what many Nolan haters are eargerly waiting for. However, some what a contiunation from Nolan's series, which obviously wan't happen. However, the people that want this don't understand the message behind movies, and aren't good critics. These people want explosions and people flying around, which is why they are satisfiyed by michael Bay(tansformers:revenge of the fallen). So we have to ignore the people that can't see beyond the movie, who can't interpret the movie.

Thank You,

I usually don't care for short editorials, but I 100% agree with this. Nolan's main concern when it comes to making movies is to make them good, not to see how many villains he can squeeze in or how many storylines he can directly adapt. I admit it would be nice to see Nolan's Batman team up with others in a Justice League film, but with the universe Nolan has created, that's kinda impossible.

I agree with you although you should have expanded upon what you have. The editorial section can't be turned into a place where people can put there half developed thoughts just because they feel like it. No offense intended.

i don't think i am. i don't want robin in any of the films. i like nolan and think he's a decent filmmaker. Not the greatest but decent. i also don't enjoy mindless explosion films such as Transformers. (in fact i argued with someone about how i want, and believe, the avengers are going to be more than just a big dumb action movie). i just think the title was a bit much. Long live nolan? meh. he's a good director and very smart. i still have my problems with his writing though. but again, i'm not one of the people you speak of.

For a so called "voice of reason", your grammer and spelling sucks.

And as for Robin in the movies, it is dumb to include him right now; but it is retarded not to include him at all. If Nolan wants to make his Batman an important symbol, he might as well introduce Robin (who is a symbol of his own). Robin is supposed to represent how Batman isn't alone in this world and really needs all the help he needed to create a better world. In terms of importance in Batman mythos, Robin is one of the most vital elements towards making a great Batman story; in terms of the ideas of team work.

Man, TheShadow, you're just insulting anyone who doesn't agree with what you're saying aren't you? You didn't even respond to my response. You're editorial sounded a bit pretentious as do your comments.
BigK1337
BigK1337 - 4/9/2011, 10:29 AM
@TheShadow The meaning of the movies is about how one men who is psychologically determine to wage a one man war on crime, due to a traumatic experience where his parents die from a common thug. He decided to create a symbol of fear to use to end all the crimes and felonies that occur in the city he grew up in; even though alot of people don't trust him for his questionable methods to end crime.

Yeah, the meanings in the Nolan films are good and well described; but the meaning of the movies themshelves have been said alot in many other Batman stories before the films even came out.
So saying I am one of those people who only watch comic book movies for the action is pretty dumb of you.

REEEEEEEEEEBOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
[frick] Nolan, he's part of the reason these characters aren't being united, and WB's too chicken shit to kick him out.
Realistic is not what Batman is, I'd rather have a comic-like Batman movie than a realistic one.

we love nolan....we just dont like the fact that he has control over two of the biggest icons within dc and he wont have then connect in the way that us fans would have. Thats all. if he were to decide to give the fans what they ask for then things would be fine. his vision is great....but he needs to listen to the fans also.

Very good article. Your right about Nolan's take on Batman being a symbol. However, your article is littered with spelling and grammatical errors. If you have good ideas, (which you cleary do)then please do post them, but please polish your work first. To not do so takes a way any credible points you make.

First off I think Nolan is a bit overrated, but that's just my opinion. I thought TDK was the best movie ever the first time I saw it, but then I saw it a few more times and realized it was ALL Ledger.

And I still can't believe people thought Inception was great, I cracked up with the whole "dream within a dream...within a dream" thing.

But the more I think about it, it was ridiculously smart of him to keep Batman separate. I don't like it but I can't argue with success. And people's issues with Iron Man 2 just makes him look even smarter.

I like Nolan's Batman universe, but personally it's too super realistic. I just can't see Clayface, Poison Ivy or Killer Croc fitting in. (I don't want a Brian Azzarellos’ Killer Croc) But I really do wish WB would continue with it using another director & cast, like the Bond series. Gradually I'm sure we'll be able to get some of the fantasy elements that are missing from Nolan's version.
They can simply create another Batman for there Justice League movie & establish him as a separate character. So JL would hav it's own universe, as would Superman, GL & any other solo films they wanna come out with. No need to unify their movies as Marvel is doing, & in this way it would set them apart & not seem as following in Marvel's footsteps.

Nolan is the BOMB! All other Batman films that came before sucked, yeah, including the Tim Burton ones. They all SUCKED. Nolan didn't save the franchise, he INVENTED it from scratch.

@ theshadow

you know man, you come off as a pretty big asshole in this article, as well as the comments youre making to people that don't agree with you. People like what they like, it doesn't make you any better than them.

first of all, I personally like both of Nolan's Batfilms. I thought Begins was worlds better than TDK, but they were both great movies. However, I dont like Nolan being in charge of the films, because Batman cannot be used in a JLA movie. This is something that Nolan himself has stated. That his Batman exists in his own world, with no other heroes. That is the reason I want a reboot.

He's about to finish up his Bat series, which frees Batman up for JLA. Unfortunately, now he's in control of Superman, so we'll have to wait for his Supes series to finish, because he said the same thing, his Superman will exist in his own world with no other heroes.

Those are the reasons I don't want Nolan in control of these characters. I know there has been a lot of rumors about a JLA movie anyway, but those rumors have been popping up numerous times a year for the past decade. So I'll believe it when we get confirmation, and wheels start turning on the proect.

Those are my reasons for not liking Nolan in control. It doesn't mean I'm too [frick]ing stupid to get the messages of his films. And that, my friend, is what makes you an asshole. You just assume that anyone that doesn't like Nolan working on these characters is some kind of drooling moron who doesn't understand what they're watching unless its mindless explosions.

nolan batman films are good at best,no way are they as great as alot of people think.

the faults i have with nolans batman movies are.

-christian bale as batman that stupid throat cancer voice annoys me when i hear it.

-the costume,i long to see the grey & black from the comics.

so far batman & batman returns has the best costumes.

-no shared universe with superman or green lantern.

-i hate the realistic approach,i want to see the likes of killer croc,man-bat,clayface & so on.

maybe with the reboot,i'll finally see the batman i want to see.

Best thing I have read on this website. People need to shut up and enjoy the masterpiece that Nolan has created because we are never going to see anything like what he has done with Batman again. Thor, Cap, Gl, and the Avengers will be great, but Nolans Batman films have set the bar for every comic film to come in the future. I will be very sad when his trilogy ends because he brought back the love I had as a child for Batman, but Nolan knows what he is doing and I have NEVER been upset with his work. He's the greatest story teller and I cant wait to see him unleash it on this final film. 2012 cant come fast enough!

Ok first I agree with you on almost all the points like how the message is good, and so on. I don't agree on how people who watch transformers don't understand the masterpiece behind Nolan's films. In fact I love movies with great stories and little action like say "Moon" one little fist fight but overall just story. Do I love the Batman films by Nolan? Hell yes they are some of my favorites. Do I hate people who don't think the same? No. Personally I don't give a shit if you like the same movies I like. Everybody has different taste. Oh and dude your asshole. Let people think what they want to think. And yes I think Nolan is an incredible filmmaker, but I don't think that means I should worship the ground he walks on.
Im pretty sure that was the voice of logic.

....robin is a fan favorite? since when?! haha Nolan is an excellent film maker...all his movies are good...and this is the first i heard of people hating on Nolan...why? why do you hate on a dude that brought back Batman from the dead...because he doesn't want robin in it...they tried that remember (looking at you Batman Forever, Batman & Robin) and where they good....hell no! and for people [female dog]ing about Nolan not wanting their favorite villains...i get that..but you also gotta remember is that this is a realistic world that Nolan built for Batman and its a smart move...thats how you make Batman so much more and with a bigger impact...put him in a world we could relate to. (if you don't like it watch the shitty Tim Burton ones) and if you want to argue with that like i said look at the old franchise..they went for the more bigger world and they failed.
@marvel72- you want the black and gray look but you said batman and batman returns costumes looked the best...are you [frick]ing kidding me..the ones where he couldn't move for shit..those? the new ones have black just like the old movies..but you complain about the new ones...i don't get that. i like the look in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight he looks bad ass..and he could actually move! (he could use a bigger neck for TDK costume i admit) and the reason they don't go for the comic book look...well it would look to silly...lets all admit...it might work in the comics..but in real life...well how could you take a dude seriously with gray and black tights? (it works in youtube shorts..but not in 2 hour movies) and Warner Bro. is in charge...so if you wanna hate on someone hate on them...but don't hate on a dude that actually has talent

GrandWrex - 4/10/2011, 1:59 AM
nolan is over rated

his movies are ok but he kinda [frick]ed up the chances of us getting a JLA movie any time soon with batman and superman, because they're supposedly the only hero in there respective universe's.

but in the end its up to Warner Brothers to decide if they want to use nolan's versions of superman and batman(in my opinion his batman would be just fine in a JLA movie minus the throat cancer lol)
Knightstalker
Knightstalker - 4/10/2011, 6:38 AM
I don't understand why people are so upset about ANYONE'S Batman not being in a JLA movie. Think about it. Having Batman on a medium to large team of heroes makes no sense for a sociopathic vigilante that always likes to work alone. I can see an occasional team-up scenario with an individual hero like Superman when they have a common goal (and yes, I'd like to see that on film), but once that goal is achieved they would likely part company. Just my two cents worth.

BTW...nuck82 seems to have a reading disfunction. If you can't read more than 25 words at a time, then maybe you should stick to reading material that is appropriate to your level until you can.

DO NOT DISRESPECT NOLAN!!

DC is not like marvel. With DC, you have a world with "tons" of brightly colored Spandex "side-kick flavored" wearing so- called heroes like if it's some kinda sex parade.
For DC to work somewhat they must "STAND ALONE" and only the "major ones" have a chance of working e.g. superman, batman, green lantern, maybe flash or even aqua man{we dont know much about the oceans depths}...not so much wonder-woman or others.
JLA makes no sense in a real world where you have some-one like Superman who by himself could stop anything happening, so why team up. It'll be a Monkey wrench to explain the "WHYS", "HOWS" and "WTFs" for even the JLA to exist in a somewhat REALISTIC WORLD!!

NOLAN DOES IT RIGHT!!....for the haters F%#K Y*@!!!

Lol, Robin is a fan favorite, if he wasn't why would people be complaining that he's not in the movie?

Batman's not a sociopath, he may have started out like that, but as he's progressed, he's gotten a lot friendlier. And he works together with people all the damn time.

I like Nolan and I like his bat-films. I think he'll bring a very deeply-layered story for Superman, mixed with Snyder's awesome visuals.
