Tom Hardy Not Playing Hugo Strange In The Dark Knight Rises After All?

Tom Hardy Not Playing Hugo Strange In The Dark Knight Rises After All?

A "solid source" has apparently revealed that despite recent rumours, the British actor will NOT play the villainous Doctor Hugo Strange in Christopher Nolan's third Batman movie...

Christopher Nolan has already revealed that neither The Riddler or Mr. Freeze will be in The Dark Knight Rises and despite recent internet rumours indicating that the movie is to be based on the graphic novel "Prey" with Doctor Hugo Strange as the main villain. With Tom Hardy the only actor revealed to be a part of the cast so far, many believed that that would be the role he'd be playing. Apparently not. Here is an excerpt from the report over at Batman-On-Film:

"So do I, but I can't tell you that...because I don't know."

However, I can tell you who he is NOT playing: Hugo Strange."

"This comes to me via a very solid source, so you can at least start heading to the bank with it. Who IS Hardy going to play? We'll know in early 2011...or so I hear."

What do you guys think? There was a mixed reaction to the rumour that Hugo Strange would be the villain in the upcoming movie, with many hoping for a better known character. We all know how bogus these inside sources can be (just look at that "leaked script" I posted information about a few days ago!) so I'll leave it up to you to share your thoughts on this news in the usual place! For now though, I suggest taking this news with a big 'ol pinch of salt.

The Dark Knight Rises is set to be released on July 20, 2012!

Wow using Batman-on-Film again as a source. It is not surprising Hardy may not play Hugo Strange it's a rumor on the net that spun off quickly people assumed it was real based on gossip.

This was just a he said that she said somebody told a friend of hers that some dude's room mate knows someone who told a friend of his that Hardy looks good with a shaved head. He's gonna be Hugo Strange....

If anyone latched onto this rumor, I feel truly sorry for you.

I think Hardy is an excellent actor but i don't see him as Hugo Strange, doesn't seem to fit for me. maybe that is just me, but the movie would be that much better if he was in it in some respect!

This information seems to fall in line with what was posted the other day.

1) That Tom Hardy wasn't playing Hugo Strange, but the Black Mask.

2) That we would be hearing more information in January.

I don't get why they don't just say what they have in the plans up to this moment, I think transparency would help at this point rather than rampant speculation that turns out false at every turn.

And now i will negate every thing i just said with...

@Brashlight

It's better that they concentrate on the making of the movie in these early stages and take their time with what they want to do rather then promoting something to early. Nolan just turned in the script a few weeks ago so maybe others outside of a few do not even know what they are doing.

has it even been confirmed that Hardy's playing a villain in the movie? Personally, I think he'd make a good Harvey Bullock (if he can do an american accent that is)

I think he will be cast as Clayface but not the one we are familiar with from the cartoon. I think he will be a master of disguise or something similar. It will be true to the Nolan universe and give Hardy a chance to showcase more of his acting abilities as a bunch of characters.

BOF always CLAIMS to have sources and etc yet they never know anything on the money! Oh except a "possible" press release in Dec or Jan....OH WOW good for you BOF, keep sucking Nolans D. Screw those guys....Didn't they make fun of THIS site and it's members for posting rumors they refuse to....? Why quote them??? And yes NOLAN is lame for holding out on minor info for soooo long. He cast Hardy a few monthes ago and he can't say WHO he's playing? Or what villains we 'll see? Its lame.
Brashlight
Brashlight - 12/17/2010, 1:34 PM
AlReg@ I can understand that, I would just love a little transparency and have Nolan at least give us something, plot hints, character hints, or even somef of the characters he is planning on using. I think his secretive nature is driving people crazy.

@Brashlight

It may drive fans a little anxious but that is only because they are waiting for the movie for so long there is nothing the filmmakers gain from fans knowing things this early on. And probably would not find interesting and we always see the premature reaction to something a bunch of fans went online saying that Green Lantern looked cheesy based on a few seconds before the real teaser got out and stuck to that even after the trailer only had a few seconds out of two minutes that looked light hearted.

@BFGLOOM

They criticized CBM for fake Bale interviews and starting rumors things that should be criticized a few days ago someone online posted a script that they made up so it was more than CBM.com but many online posters they even did an editorial on some fans online that anyone who lies about inside information should look at.

Believe me guys, I know all about a couple of the assholes over at Batman-On-Film making some sly and downright blatant digs at this site...jealousy is a terrible thing, and they should actually be grateful we actually give credit to their glorified blog. (my opinion not CBM's as a whole) Either way, I hope Tom hardy IS playing Hugo Strange just to humiliate them, lol! Plus, when the Strange stuff is no more than a rumour, it's easy for them to claim that he's not playing the character! :)

@JoshW

No offense to you or any of the guys on this site who work to put out news that you believe is legitimate or is in fact real but the users who make fake news or rumors do deserve to be criticized and not encouraged and because of their actions they make more people on this site look bad.
