Hanna-Barbera Cartoons Fan Cast!!!

I have done fan casts for three of the most popular Hanna-Barbera cartoons: "The Flintstones," "The Jetsons," and "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?"

Hanna-Barbera is one of the most successful cartoon companies in history, producing smash hits such as "Tom & Jerry", "Top Cat", and "Yogi Bear". However, among the thirty years of achievement, Hanna-Barbera's arguably most well-known animations are "The Flintstones", "The Jetsons", and "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?"

I've decided to cast all three of these into one instead of only putting four or five characters in three fan casts.

Up first we have that modern stone-age family: THE FLINTSTONES.

The Flintstones have had two films about them already, but as with the trend in Hollywood it is time for their reboot.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan may seem like an odd choice for Fred Flintstone, a simple quarry worker in Bedrock. JDM has been in numerous films such as "The Watchmen" where he played the Comedian, he has also been in "The Losers" with Chris "Captain America" Evans, and has a role in the 2012 remake of "Red Dawn".

Although he is known more for his action roles, I think he has the acting chops to pull of both physical comedy and verbal.

She's hot and a redhead - do I need another reason?

Well... yes. That's not the only reason I chose her. I think Christina Hendricks is a tremendous actress, as seen in her roles on "Mad Men" and in the new film "Drive". I think she will do great as Fred's wife!

For Fred's best man, I have chosen Matthew Perry. Matthew Perry was superb as Chandler in "Friends" and has a great dry sense of humor that I think would be a great foil to Fred's more physical comedy.

Betty Rubble was a tricky one to cast, but I am pretty satisfied with Sarah Callies. She is best known in her roles on the show "Prison Break" and as Rick Grimes's wife on the show "The Walking Dead".

Frank Welker is currently the voice of Scooby-Doo and numerous other cartoon characters. He is a common connection you will see in this fan cast, a way to make it obvious that, even though each of these times are different (past, present, future) they lie in the same universe.

I find Paul Giamatti hysterical in just about whatever he does. He was one of my favorite roles in "The Hangover, Part II" and I absolutely loved him in "Sideways". I think for the part of Mr. Slate, he will do just fine.

Rumor has it that Seth MacFarlane is planning on reviving the original Flintstone cartoon. For some reason I can't quite explain, I have faith in him. He's a wonderful voice actor who has performed as the Great Gazoo before.

***NOTE*** I didn't cast Bam-Bam or Pebbles because the children are pretty young and wouldn't have too much of a prominent role in this film, so it really doesn't matter to me who's cast.

Now it's time to meet THE JETSONS

Will Arnett is an extremely talented actor who has been in the television shows "Arrested Development" and "Up All Night". He has also been in the film "Let's Go To Prison". With his new TV series, "Up All Night", Will Arnett has gotten into more straightforward comedy that I think would be perfect for George Jetson.

Another funny actress who is best known for her role as Pam Beesley-Halpert on the U.S. TV series "The Office". She has also been in the films "Hall Pass" and "Blades of Glory" (with Will Arnett).

Dakota Fanning is an actress who has been in numerous films, such as "War of the Worlds," "Hounddog," and "The Secret Life of Bees". She is a stellar actress who I believe would adapt well in a comedy film.

Honestly, the only role I know Ty Simpkins in is "Insidious" where he blew me away. I thought he was incredible! He would be superb as George and Jane's super-genius son.

In a few years Betty White has become quite popular, and I think she would be magnificent. She is able to have such a maternal nature about her, but with excellent comedic timing.

This is where my connection to "The Flintstones" film comes in. I think it would be cool if Frank Welker would voice Astro, the Jetsons' dog.

Best known for his role as Jim's Dad in the "American Pie" films, Eugene Levy is a highly talented actor who I find hilarious. He would be awesome as George's boss!

I don't know why but I thought that Bob Saget as the voice of R.U.D.I. (Referential Universal Digital Indexer) would be funny as hell.

I thought this would a nice in-joke, as Russell Brand plays another rocker, but a fairly clean rocker this time.

Finally we have the group of meddling kids and their not-so-dumb dog: SCOOBY-DOO

Admittedly the only role I know him in is "Glee", but I think he's a decent enough actor and I have faith in what he would doe with this role.

A familiar face from "Heroes", she has also been in "I Love You, Beth Cooper" and recently "Scream 4". She was pretty funny in "I Love You, Beth Cooper" and I think she would work well off of the other actors.

Aubrey Plaza is in the TV series "Parks and Recreation" and has been in the film "Funny People". In both roles she has a quick, dry sense of humor that I think would compliment the character of Velma.

This one I'm pretty proud of. Eric Christian Olsen has been in the films "Dumb and Dumberer" and "Fired Up!" Currently he has a role in "NCIS: Los Angeles" as an LAPD detective. I thought he was great in "Dumb and Dumberer" and could give us a great Shaggy!

And of course for the lovable pooch Scooby-Dooby-Doo, I have chosen Frank Welker, as yet another connection to "The Flintstones" and "The Jetsons".

I think that if these films get made, there could be hope for crossovers in at least "The Jetsons" and "The Flintstones".

I hope you enjoyed this fan cast - I know it's a bit long, but thanks for reading, and comments are appreciated!

All of your picks are great. I was just thinking Eric Christian olsen would be a great Shaggy but I think compared to your other picks he is a little too old.
I would switch him with Christoph Sanders, I haven't seen him in anything but Tim Allens new show Last Man Standing. As soon as I saw him I thought he looks like the perfect Shaggy.

This is the best fan cast ever. Every cast is spot on! Except for Mr. Spacely = Danny Devito. But I wouldn't mind eugene either. Great job.

I love this cast, but I've always pictured William H. Macy as George Jetson. But still... Spot on casting for every character.
