Green Lantern has been seen with mixed emotions ever since it was first announced that Ryan Reynolds would be playing Hal Jordan. Even more negative reaction to the announcement that the suit would be all CGI. But is this move as bad as they say.......well to me this movie was not the greatest but it wasn't the worst movie ever.

Ryan Reynolds Plays Hal Jordan, A Cocky Test Pilot with daddy issues. In the beginning of the movie he is basically Van Wilder.He even pushes his luck at work by crashing a brand new fighter jet. This makes Carl Ferris to fire Hal but no one fires Hal and he quits. He also has issues with his family too. Ryan as you can tell tries his best to work with the script and does a pretty good job as Hal. We don't see the real Hal Jordan until maybe 5 minutes before the climatic final fight with Parallax. I give his performance a 4 out of 5 stars.

Peter Sarsgaard plays one of the movies villians Hector Hammond. Hector is portrayed as a lonely, geeky college professor and some sort of biologist. He becomes infected by a part of Parallax that is stuck in Abin Sur's dead body. Over the course of the movie we see that Hector's father The Senator(played by Tim Robbins) thinks that Hector is an embarrassment of a son and a failure. Even more so the creepy part of his head growing and his scenes where it is growing are very creepy. They try to make you feel sorry for his character and in the end you do(or atleast me and my 3 friends did.). I give his performance a 3 out of 5 stars

Blake Lively as Carol Ferris is a decent role in the film. She is the daughter of Carl Ferris. She, Hal and Hector all knew each other as children in some way that is never explained in the film. She does pretty good with the material she is given. But the role could easily been played by any other actress. She has some good scenes with Hal but not enough to really show how good at acting she is. OR she might not be good at acting at all. I give her performance a 2 out of 5 stars

Mark Strong as Sinestro is probably one of the highlights of the movie. He plays Sinestro spot on it is a shame though he only has barely any screen time. In the movie he is trying to tell the Guardians that you have to overcome fear with fear. The Gaurdians then forge a yellow ring and show it to Sinestro but Hal shows up before anything can happen and tells them you can't control the power of fear because he has seen it happen to someone else. You also see Sinestro start to question the Guardians because they never told him about Krona and his fall from being a Gaurdian and becomes the host for Parallax. There is a nice little Pre-credits scene where we see Sinestro take the yellow power ring and remove his Green Lantern ring and we then see the Sinestro we know from the comics in the yellow costume. I give his performance a 4 and a half out of 5 stars

The Story itself is a very complicated one if you have never read the comics up until about the middle when they explain things more. There is alot more time on Earth then Oa and that is because this is Hal's origin story and they should save a more Oa centered movie for a sequel(if they have one). Tomar-Re and Kilowog are great but they really aren't in the movie alot except for maybe 6 scenes out of the whole movie. The Final Fight with Parallax is pretty great. I really enjoyed the constructs Hal makes in the fight. I give the story a 3 out of 5 stars.

The CGI in this movie is incredible. Hal's suit is one of the many wonders of modern movie technology. There is one part of the movie when he first wakes up on Oa and he see the suit on him and and he tries to pull a peice off of him but he realizes his skin after he pulls on it. Oa is pretty breath taking for the short time we see it. The aliens look great too especially Kilowog and Tomar-Re. I give the CGI a 5 out of 5 stars

So to conclude this review I have to say is that this movie might not be The Dark Knight but it isn't as Bad as Jonah Hex was. Just hopefully this will make enough money so there can be a sequel that is a actual space epic. And maybe WB/DC will learn from the bit of mistakes they had with this movie.
I give the movie a 3 and a half out of 5 stars

Good review! I saw it this wknd and agree...it wasn't good or bad...it was just a movie. The CGI *was* really great though. RR did a good job with the comedic timing. I prefered all the scenes in outer reaches over the earth bits. If they had stayed out there, I'd have stayed more interested.

Thanks....i really tried my hardest with this. Ryan did do good with it everyone in the theatre laughed when he said something funny.....The outer space parts are way better then the Earth stuff....i did enjoy the helicopter scene though because of the hot wheels race track thing he made.I was interested the whole movie....the thing had me on the edge of my seat...which no other comic book movie has ever done.

I like this review. I think you made good points and you didn't bash it just to bash it like other critics. The movie wasn't that bad i don't see what all the hate is about.

i liked the movie despite its flaws.....it certainly doesnt deserve the constant bashing especially from CBM fans.....the constant bitching makes us all look like a bunch of drama queens.....gotta have something to cry about it seems. lets just be happy we are getting DC properties other than batman brought to film and just know that the next installment will be awesome.

@J6
Me either.....I really don't get why people are saying it is bad either.....i thought it was pretty good....it entertained me.....I went to see Thor and was like bored out of my mind with.....but GL had me wanting more.

@naterator
Yeah....I say the same thing.....a while back i had a editorial about how we should wait for more footage and trailers before saying it was gonna suck.....and i said atleast we are getting a green lantern movie.....better it with Ryan then with Jack Black.

I liked the movie a lot and I don't know why people are bashing it so badly. It was very close to the source material which I thought most people liked but I guess not. I want a sequel so I can see Sinestro be evil because I loved Mark Strong as Sinestro and he would own as the villain like usual. Sinestro is one of my favorite villains and I want to see him on the bug screen killing people.

The saddest thing about the GL run at the BO so far is to see that the same people in the internet that were jizzing their pants about this movie 2 months ago are now trashtalking and badmouthing it like it were the 2011's Batman and Robin. Their reaction towards this movie is really childish to me. No one is saying here that GL is a great CBM but to say that it is among the worst superhero movies in cinema's history is just silly and there's really no debate about it to me!

I think this movie was a target from the beginning. critics already had it in there minds that they were going to trash this movie before it even hit theaters. the reason I believe is because they gave Thor and First Class good ratings so, if they give another superhero movie a good rating they might lose their credibility for liking too many "mindless action movies". I think it was no different then Thor. both of them were good movies, not great but entertaining. I don't know how people can like Thor but not like GL. I cant rap my head around that.

@ J6

You and I are on the same wavelength!

Hopefully, GL will get at least as much success as Thor did in the BO.

J6@
Exactly.....they just think that there word is like the word of god....like we have to listen to them....they are a bunch of bland tasteless old farts. Thor was a bit more boring then GL to me.....but that is just me

PriceOfPower87@
Yes it is indeed sad.....but i do agree it isn't like Batman&Robin at all....but it isn't The Dark Knight....i enjoyed it though....definetly gonna get it on Blu Ray
