Speaking to LA Times, Jeff Robinov - president of the Warner Brothers film group - talks more about the possibility of a sequel to the recent box office bomb Green Lantern, saying that they have to find a way to balance the amount of space and Earth time (unlike the first film, which had much more time on Earth than space) and that the film had a 'decent opening'. He also reveals that the executives at WB definitely want a new director for the sequel, saying that they weren't 'thrilled' in working with Martin Campbell on the first film, as well as the possibility that they may make significant changes to the outline they already have for the sequel.

Robinov also confirms that their pending Flash film has a 'solid script', and that we may see that or Green Lantern 2 later in 2013 or sometime in 2014, while also expressing more interest in a Justice League film.

“We had a decent opening so we learned there is an audience,” said Warner Bros. film group President Jeff Robinov, pointing to the film’s box office debut of $53 million. “To go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action…. And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth.”

Later that year or in 2014, Warner could go ahead with a second Green Lantern or Flash movie. Robinov said the studio has “a solid script” for the Scarlet Speedster. The executive also remains interested in bringing DC heroes together for a “Justice League” movie.

Oh yes, what this movie needs is direction from an executive.
F**k sake.
They tried to jump on the Iron Man bandwagon and failed, so now they're gonna "Dark Knight" it up.
Know why Nolan's Batman is a success?
Because they have a team working on it who actually love the character, and their attention is on making a good story first and foremost.
I love GL but the last thing I want to see is this franchise continuing.
I hope to f**k that The Flash can bring back some credibility to the wider DC universe.

We definitely need to see a Flash movie PRONTO. I say before GL2. Take a little more time with the second GL and bring us something EPIC. NO REBOOT.

Campbell only ever wanted to make his first cgi extravaganza and had little interest in building characters or storyline.

@ZeroEthic I agree, the first film's tone was just fine, no need to change it. I'd say just bring in more character development and a strong script, and we'd have an excellent Green Lantern film.

@PaulRom
I actually thought the tone was too jumpy to be honest.
Or at least it didn't flow as well as other films have achieved.
It was such a mess of a film it's hard to even string together a coherent critique lol

OMFG!.. Yes there is an audience there and you sh!t on them, which is why it got horrible reviews and no positive word of mouth and no return business. Darker, edgier, more action isnt the answer. A GOOD SCRIPT IS! So if that is your solution, then you dont even know what the problem is.

And given that the same team was hired to write the Flash that wrote Green Lantern, i doubt you have a solid script there either.

Change your approach you damn morons.

the only mistake about green lantern was ryan renolds. he should've played the flash or just stayed as deadpool.

Glad to hear they are still thinking about GL2 but they need to tie it all in like Marvel is doing. Have conections with Flash and the New Superman movie. Make the Flash first, slip in some kind of GL referance. Mention the paralax attack on some back issue of the Daily Planet in the Superman Movie. Start bringing these movies together. Marvel is doing a great job with it and DC has the characters for an epic tie in story!!

you wanna make these movies successful? get away from Warner Bros!! branch out, have other movie studios make these movies... oh yeah... LOOK AT WHERE MARVEL GETS THEIR SUCCESS AND LEARN FROM THAT!!!!

-the losers
-superman 3
-superman 4

Ryan Renolds was actually the best thing about the Green Lantern Movie. Darker and edgier, may help just a little, but what they need is a good script and a good director that cares about the character. Even though GL's power is silly a good script and director can make the movie Epic!! It can be done!!

Good directors are the anwesr. Raimi, Nolan etc had complete control over the movie. If a movie sucks is the directors fault. GL was ok enough for a sequel. They should already look for a director for Flash.

Bring us Green Lantern 2 first, regardless of the fact that Ioved Green Lantern, give us some something better so that everyone can get even more amped for The Flash. Once GL2 delivers, then give us The Flash and blow us out of the water

@Marvel72
- Howard The Duck
- Captain America 1990
- Fantastic Four` 1994
- Daredevil
- Elektra
- Ghost Rider
- Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
- X-men 3
- Punisher: War Zone
- Spiderman 3
- X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Your point?

We all know Marvel is doing great now, it's fantastic that they are. But it's naive of you to assume DC couldn't do the same in future, especially with the success of Batman and Superman and their iconic status.

Green Lantern 2 has the potential to be great, like all comicbookmovies but it's more clear what went wrong with this than the others. Flash needs to arrive this very instant! Get JJ Abrams, make GL 2 a space epic like no one has ever seen. Do not attack from the mind of an action director, attack it like it is Star Wars episode 5. More Hal and Sinestro, in fact it needs to be all Hal and Sinestro!!!!!

@marvel72...good point. All those movies fu**?$ suck. I really dont think DC has much input in the decision making of when the WB makes their CBM. They keep on jacking up movies, they are going to be the next FOX.

HelaGood - 8/2/2011, 8:15 AM
SKIP GL 2!!!!!!!!!! go directly to FLASH or WW.

and i confirm ClarkFarley2012 's comment!!!
that IS the point of fail for DC... WB not letting DC run the show... thinking they know more about the characters than DC... wrong.

@ ZeroEthic

look both companies have made stinkers, but batman begins should of been the begining of something great but it wasn't,if you take out batman begins & the dark knight dc have made nothing decent.you can't keep relying on batman & superman to save the day.geoff johns was co-producer on the green lantern so what went wrong? if anyone knows there way round a comic book its geoff.

the bottom line is after the green lantern people will approach dc movies with caution,i thought the wondercon footage was fantastic a great improvement over the first trailer but that five minutes of footage was every good bit of the movie.

bad reveiws & piss poor movie won't make people rush out & see a sequel.

I wanna see GL 2 and I'd love to see them get someone like Raimi on it who could balance the camp with some gritt action and a great story.

That said, he's saying 2013 or 14 for the Flash and GL because now they KNOW they have to hit a home run. GL was the second out in the bottom of the ninth and they need a grand slam to compete with what marvel is doing so I imagine they will spend 2011 revising both scripts and then move into pre production and all that in 2012 and start filming in 2013.

They know what they have to do. Execs may not always listen to fanboys but they listen to returns. They know there is money to be made on both characters based on the comic sales so let's hope for the best.

I love both movie universes and want to see them both succeed.

Btw wtf is up with Ghost Rider 2? How'd that even happen? I love GR but really?

Well i think Green Lantern 2 can work if they do it right. I mean, when we all saw the commercials for the first one the movie looked pretty legit. So the look was fine, there just needed to be a better story, better dialogue, and better cgfx. Because the ones they brought to the table were cartoon network movie worthy, not big screen worthy. The hero has a great story, they just have to find it and adapt it well.

And I can see a great Flash movie happening as well. Just dont make it corny. Make it a film that everybody can enjoy not just children. Because then you should just give the movie to Schumacher to [frak] up.

Why does everyone hate on Green Lantern? It was fine and I thought it was a solid film and just as good as Thor. I want a sequel because it would be a waste to have Mark Strong playing as one of the greatest villains in comics and not even show him be a bad guy.

Flash would be fantastic if it was done right.

CherryBomb - 8/2/2011, 8:41 AM

Green Lantern 2 neeeeds to focus more on the Earth side! since their special effects for the aliens and Oa wasn't their strongest selling point. People are more likely going to watch if it isn't filled with aliens.

Also, STAR SAPPHIRE!

I'd like to see a Flash movie :D aslong as they cast it right!
