BOX OFFICE: Early Tracking Points To A Solid $40 Million - $50 Million Debut For GHOSTBUSTERS

The trailer may be the most disliked movie video ever posted on YouTube, but it doesn't appear as if the haters are going to stop Ghostbusters from being a hit when it opens in North America next month.

It looks set to be perhaps the most divisive movie of the summer, but Ghostbusters may very well still be a hit when it's released on July 15th. According to tracking data obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, early estimates point to a North American debut between $40 million and $50 million. That's not a bad result, and if the reviews are good, there's every chance it could earn even more than that.

Sony is certainly hoping so anyway, especially as the Ghostbusters budget was around the $154 million range. According to the trade, women over the age of 25 are currently the most interested in seeing the reboot, so expect the studio's marketing campaign to try and nab younger females and male viewers during the final marketing push over the coming weeks. Still, things are looking pretty good!

It's obviously too soon to say whether or not Ghostbusters will be a hit of course, but the publicity the reboot has received because of all the controversy could very well end up serving in its favour...

Can someone please explain to me the hate for this film? It just looks like a standard comedy in my eyes.
