Chris Hemsworth Reflects On GHOSTBUSTERS Backlash And Missing Out On Roles In G.I. JOE And WOLVERINE

Once upon a time, Chris Hemsworth was a struggling actor in Hollywood and he missed out on a number of roles which ultimately went to other actors. Ultimately, that worked out for the best, of course, especially considering the fact that the projects in question are G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and X-Men Origins: Wolverine

"I got very close to ‘GI Joe,’" he says, referring to the character who was ultimately played by Channing Tatum. "I got very close to Gambit in the Wolverine ‘X-Men’ movies." Instead, that went to Taylor Kitsch for a one and done cameo. "At the time I was upset. I was running out of money. But if I played either of those characters, I wouldn’t have been able to play Thor."

One movie which did change everything for Hemsworth was Ghostbusters. That divisive reboot allowed him to show a comedic side that was carried over into Thor: Ragnarok but he still hasn't forgiven the so-called fans who decided to take aim at it from the start due to the female cast.

"That whole period I was like, ‘What ownership do you guys have over those characters?’" he muses after revealing that he would have liked to do a sequel. "Oh, you watched the film, therefore you should have a say over where it goes? I thought it was very unfortunate and kind of disappointing." Surprisingly, though, Hemsworth nearly walked away from that some time before.

"The night before I was shooting, I almost pulled out. Three or four weeks prior, Paul said to me, ‘I’m going to write up the character. Don’t worry.’ And then I got the script and nothing had changed." Luckily, he then learned that he would be allowed to improvise. "I was really scared walking onto that set. I had no real plan, so I was just feeding off of them, and I just felt ridiculous. So I used that."

Do you think the Avengers: Endgame star would have made a better Gambit than Thor?

@tvor03 - I liked the new Ghostbusters characters more than the originals, the special were (of course) better, the 3D was some of the best 3D I have seen (in the top 10), Chris was awesomely funny, the main bad guy looked a little like John Belushi (in the face), the cameos of the original actors were great, and I've seen it three times.

The real issue with this film, was that it tried too hard to make the female cast members behave like the original Ghostbusters.
LSHF

@Mansuper - The two token characters acted nothing like each other. Kate didn't act like "anyone" in the original. NO ONE in the new film acted like Bill Murray. I have no idea wtf you are talking about.

Holtzman= Egon
Yates= Stantz
Gilbert= Venkman
Tolan= Zedmore
The producers of this film took a formula, swapped gender roles and made a new Ghostbusters film. The end result wasn't great, because it was an unoriginal rehash. It was a poor imitation of what came before it. They even had a quirky, yet strangely attractive secretary, except this time she was Chris Hemsworth, and he is a man. This movie was like when your mom would bring home one of those generic cereal brands. You wanted Fruit Loops, but instead, you got Fruit Rings. They look similar, they even taste similar, but something is a bit "off" about them. They're kind of good, but they just can't live up to the original.

So basically the Director said, “Eh.Just wing it.”
That’s why the movie was an unfunny mess.

So.. I'm shocked how much love the Ghostbusters reboot gets..

I absolutely dispised the reboot. Mainly because the reboot is The Force Awakens level of retread of the original wrapped in a lot phoned in acting..

The movie should have been called lazily retread nostalgia with a lot of not funny gags..
