Erin Gilbert (Wiig) and Abby Yates (McCarthy) are a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. A few years later Gilbert lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia University, but her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Gilbert reunites with Yates and others when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.

I am actually excited for this movie!

Still don't see why they didn't set it in the same universe as the original. A minor complaint, but i just bugs me since I see no reason to reboot it, except that they didn't want to put effort into thinking up a story again. Origins are almost always easier.

Still, this will do pretty well I think. People have nostalgia for this film, and we saw how Jurassic World did. I'll check it out.

@HarrowRed - I think, at the very least, it should have some kind of "Star Trek" reboot tie to the originals... Like saying that the original team crossing the streams in the first film fractured off alternate realities. So they never existed in this universe, yet this universe exists because of what they did.

Peter Venkman = Kristen Wiig
Ray Stantz = Melissa McCarthy
Egon Spengler = Kate McKinnon
Winston Zeddemore = Leslie Jones
Janine Melnitz = Chris Hemsworth

That's how "fresh" and "original" this "new spin" on the Ghostbusters remake is. *my fingers hurt now from making air quotes as I typed this.

Agreed on those roles, except I think Wiig will be Ray & McCarthy will be Venkman, especially with the way Feig lets her improv

These are just stills, let's not decapitate the movie before even seeing a trailer. With the technology we have now compared to the 80's flick....I'm sure it will be a visual wonder on the Paranormal aspects of this movie.
