GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE - Bill Murray Officially Confirmed To Return; New Stills Released

We pretty much knew this to be the case already, but it's now been made official: the legendary Bill Murray will indeed reprise the role of Peter Venkman for the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife!

It had already been established that most of the original Ghostbusters cast would be back for Jason Reitman's upcoming sequel, but we never had 100% confirmation that the notoriously capricious Bill Murray would be among them... until now!

Variety's Anthony Breznican paid a visit to the set of Ghostbusters: Afterlife to interview the legendary actor, who will indeed reprise the role of Peter Venkman. Murray didn't get too specific about how his smart-ass spook-hunter would be reintroduced, but he did share his thoughts on the story.

“Well, we are a man down. That’s the deal,” Murray said, confirming that the passing of Harold Ramis did influence the script. “And that’s the story that we’re telling, that’s the story they’ve written. The script is good. It’s got lots of emotion in it. It’s got lots of family in it, with through lines that are really interesting. It’s gonna work.”

Murray's endorsement will no doubt mean a lot to fans, who are hoping Afterlife will serve as a worthy follow-up to a true one-of-a-kind that has stood the test of time.

Captain Marvel actress Mckenna Grace gets to grips with a proton pack. The trailer strongly hints that she's playing the granddaughter of the late Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), but we still don't know for sure.

Avengers: Endgame actor Paul Rudd plays local teacher Mr. Grooberson, who helps Callie (Carrie Coon) and her kids get to the bottom of the strange occurrences in their town.

I’m looking forward to seeing more from this... it seems like a very different Ghostbusters film.

@Chewtoy - the right approach imo, you can't keep doing the same thing over n over, GB3 example! looks like they doing it sort of Spielberg or Abrams style, can't wait =P

@Chewtoy - It is and it isn't and I think that's what will make this work. It's building off what was and not recycling the same thing. Continuity wise, it seems to make sense so I'm all in.

I've really got faith in all this. It came into being out of Jason Reitman's own passion for the originals. It's directly tied into the originals and was somewhat set up by them. This is what we all said they should have done when the shitty Melissa McCarthy comedy reared its head. And it's got Paul Rudd. 'Nuf said. Hopefully this doesn't suffer from the shitty-reboot-revival curse — Ghostbusters got that out of their system in 2016.

Grace McKenna is so seasoned for how young she is. I mean, she's been in so much damn stuff at this point and she's only 13.

This was necessary. It wouldn't have been right without him. Not sure what the best case scenario is for these nostalgia reboot sequels, but Ghostbusters is one of the best films ever made, so I'm rooting for it.

As good as that trailer may have been, I've been pretty indifferent towards it until now.

I’m excited for this movie but.... seeing a little kid wear a heavy proton pack is odd after seeing the original cast always have trouble putting those heavy things on and seeing her shooting it is odd since the guys had to use a lot of strength to aim after shooting because the proton blast was powerful and hard to control.

@AnthonyVonGeek - That’s definitely weird. Maybe it was altered by her or Egon. Like, what if he was sick and altered the pack to be a bit easier to carry 🤔

@newhire13 - I was thinking something like that since cell phones and TVs have gotten lighter, thinner and sleeker but that proton pack still looks big and bulky. Maybe it’s still connected to the Ecto 1 and we just can’t see it.

Can't be any worse than the 2016 one.

The original Ghostbusters is my all time fave film. It's just a lot of fun to watch. What I hope that this movie will accomplish is that I can watch the original before seeing this one and it will feel like an organic progression in that it has the same feel to it. If it can do that then I will be as happy as a pig in sh*t! :-)

I guess it’s slow news day I didn’t see Bill Murray any where except on tv which is shown in trailer

I have the same sort of response to people who already wanted to crap on the all female cast before the other film was even made. Too bad you did not get the original cast like you wanted, but it was a decent film for what it was.
