GHOSTBUSTERS Star Ernie Hudson On Original Cast Returning For The New Film: "Everybody Is In"

Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore in the 1980s classics, reportedly says that the "everybody is in" for the new sequel, suggesting the original cast could return. Reitman, you know who to call!

There's a lot of excitement surrounding the recently announced Ghostbusters movie, which was revealed to be a true sequel to the original two films. But a lot of the hype is riding on the hopes that the original cast will return for the movie - something which hasn't been confirmed nor denied as of yet.

However, speaking to Daily Mail, original Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore in the 1980s movies, has reportedly revealed that at least all of the original stars are willing to return.

It should be noted that Hudson didn't confirm that the original cast is definitely returning, as the Daily Mail headline suggests; but rather, he said: "everybody is in."

"Ivan Reitman is there and everybody is in. Now whether the studio will do it, I'm the guy who sits by the phone and waits for the call. So if they call, I'll answer. If not, I've got other stuff that I'm doing.'"

Hudson and co-star Dan Akroyd (who played Ray Stantz) have already expressed a willingness to return on social media. The only one who hasn't commented on it is Bill Murray, but Hudson's comment has been interpreted by many media outlets to mean that even he's willing to return under the right circumstances.

Of course, the only original star who can't return is Harold Ramis, who passed away in 2014. Hudson had nothing but glowing praise for Ramis, who played Egon in the films but is confident the studio could still make it work.

Details regarding the plot of Ghostbusters are still being kept under wraps. The upcoming movie was written and is being directed by Jason Reitman, whose dad Ivan directed the first two hit movies. Rumors suggest the movie will feature two young kids - a boy and a girl - as the main focus of the story, or possibly a team of four teenagers (two boys, two girls).

Ghostbusters 3 is slated to hit theaters in 2020.

Heres GB3. Takes place 2 years after the first and they're training new recruits.

But do I like the sound of this?

Hell yeah!

Do I want this movie to happen?

Hudson and Aykroyd have always been willing and ready to return, it's Murray who is the hold out.

@CurlyBill - I usually enjoy Bill Murray, but he seemed totally bored in that horrible Ghostbusters Grrrrl Power disaster. Also, his cameo role was dreadful imo.

This pitch seems a little more in the direction they should've taken in the first place, but I'm still very doubtful this will be any good.

Haven't logged in for awhile but I had to for this.I really hope they make this and use it as a proper passing of the mantle Ghostbusters.Always had a plot idea that for a 3rd movie starting off with a flashback of the Original line-up fighting some villain and one of the Ghostbusters dying in the process and others retiring after.

@Chekkarma - Pretty sure Bill Murray wants his character dead.

Surely he is the mentor of the new Ghostbusters and who drives the old car. Same as "Driving Miss Daisy", although with four teenage Ghostbusters in the back seats. xD

Please Ghostbusters.

Learn from the success of Cobra Kai and learn from Complete Failure Of Star Wars Sequel Trilogy.

1.) It IS possible to tell interesting and compelling stories of original characters while also having new characters have arcs as well.

and

2.) If you do bring back the original characters...allow them to ALL BE TOGETHER for one last ride.

Please, don’t let the failures of Kennedy and Star Wars be in vein. Learn from them and find success.

We need a time machine or a seance to bring Harold Ramis back to life, that’d make me happy

Man the 80’s had so many damn iconic movies. Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Terminator, Empire Strikes Back, Indiana Jones, Conan, ET, Aliens, Beverly Hills Cop, Die Hard, Goonies, Die Hard, Red Dawn, Outsiders, Karate Kid, Gremlins, The Lost Boys, Nightmare on Elm Street, Top Gun, Stand By Me, Ferris Bueller & probably a hundred more. Movies now are probably better made with better special effects but they don’t have as many that will have the lasting impact of what the 80’s brought to the table.

Expectations aren't high for this one after the (less-than-stellar) re-boot from 2 years ago.

I'm mainly interested to see what they're going to do with and how they'll explain Egon's death.

@Forthas - Except... frick Kevin Hart. I’m all for forgiving past sins/mistakes, but to be as high profile as he is and acted the way he did with the Academy Awards... look, believe/feel the way you want, but know your role, man. Get with the times.

I was a big Louie C.K. fan before too, but when his shit hit the fan and he handled it (and still is) with such vitriol and lack of penneance... I’m out. I started rewatching Parks and Rec recently and damn near skipped the episodes/scenes he was in, he disgusts me so much these days. If I wasn’t working on a murder mystery puzzle with no refencece picture to guide me (Foul Play and Cabernet) such that I was too concentrated and busy to do it I would have. Until Kevin Hart shows a change of heart, he’s fricking dead to me. Also looking at you, Louie.

@Santanaonfire - Regarding Hart: nothing should be off limits in comedy, sorry. And how pathetic do you have to be to get this butthurt over it--you're acting like someone just shot your puppy. Get over yourself.

I re-watched Mr Plinkett’s Ghostbusters 2016 review today, and man, Sony made every bad decision in the book while making this film.

Paul Feig didn’t want Ivan Reitman, or any of the original guys, to have input on the film. Feig wanted to create his own universe, that had nothing to do with the previous films. But then he proceeded to rip off the other series’ logo, theme song, proton packs, car, character archetypes, and big chunks of its plot. And when he was criticized for doing so, he simply pronounced that all of his critics were basement-dwelling, sexist man-children.

And to quote Dan Aykroyd, after the film flopped, “Paul Feig will not be welcome back to the Sony lot any time soon.”

@santoanderson - holy shit, Aykroyd actually said that? I mean I had no interest in seeing the film (because I've never wanted ANY further Ghostbusters films, no matter what gender the stars were) but that's kinda harsh... and especially when Aykroyd himself doesn't exactly have the most credibility anymore for, well, just even being a totally sane human being.

@CaptCoulson - Aykroyd was an executive producer on GB16. He went on a UK talk show (Sunday Brunch?) about a year after the movie came out. On it he explained that during the production of the film Feig was dismissive of his, and the other executive producers’ input. They were telling him to shoot certain scenes, and he refused. So they did a test screening, and the audience said the movie was missing everything that Aykroyd told Feig to film. Ultimately Feig had to spend an additional $30-$40 million on reshoots. Sony was mad at Feig, especially after the movie bombed. That’s why Akyroyd says Feig isn’t allowed back on the lot.

How are they gonna pull this off ?

We got a GB3 in a video game, Everybody is old and Harold Ramis is been gone for almost five years.
