Harold Ramis' Daughter On The Possibility Of A CG Egon In A New GHOSTBUSTERS Film

At San Diego Comic-Con Ivan Reitman revealed that he was working on more Ghostusters, and teased the possibility of adding Harold Ramis a.k.a. Egon digitally, an idea Ramis' daughter recently spoke about.

With the tease of more Ghostbusters on the way, one thing that fans have been wondering is what will the film do with Egon due to the unfortunate passing of Harold Ramis.

When chatting about the possibility of more films, director Ivan Reitman was asked about whether or not he would use CGI to bring Ramis back as Egon. "It’s possible. … It’s something we’re thinking of," he said.

The Hollywood Reporter reached out to Ramis' daughter, Violet Ramis Stiel, to ask if she had heard of the comments made by Reitman. "It's bizarre," Ramis Stiel said. "Personally, for me, it is hard to imagine that people would accept it, but who knows. The technology now is amazing."

The question then shifted to whether or not she would be okay with seeing her dad digitally added to a new film. She responded with, "I try to think what would he have thought. If it's great and it works, then good. And if there is a problem, then obviously no."

The use of CGI to bring actors back from the grave is still a newer technology. It was used on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to bring back Peter Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin, to mixed reviews.

As of right now there is no confirmed Ghostbusters movie in the works.

At this point I can't even watch Ghostbusters. I really hope another movie doesn't Materialize.

@BobGarlen - Or you could just not watch the new one and not worry about it too much.

@Ryguy88 - Sounds like an airtight plan.

@BobGarlen - Well technically there has only been 1 good GB movie and thats the 1st 1. I loved the cartoon as a kid too.

I really hate that movie companies even see that as an option. When someone has passed away just let it go. Don't try to cash in on a dead person. I find it disrespectful. I am sure I'm in the minority, but I can't be alone in thinking this way.

@RancidBane - They're not trying to cash in on him as a person, but his character.

@Beetleborg - recast! They have been recasting very important roles for decades. We have had so many different James Bonds and Batmen. I don't want to hear that an actor is so important they can't be recast. If they can recast Dumbledore mid franchise then they can recast a character no one has seen in over 30 years.

@RancidBane - It's something to think about now if you are an actor. Do I need a clause in my will protecting my image or do I give my family an opportunity to gain royalties from my image?

@Baf - it is sickening to me. I can't stand that this has become a thing.

@RancidBane - It's a little different with those characters I feel. Those are characters that existed before. Egon IS Harold. Every single about that character comes from his portrayal of him.

Just leave the character alone. I'm not even sure why they would consider this when the new movie seems to take place completely separately from the originals anyways.

@CuddlyCereal - I'm good with leaving him alone or recast him. Those are the only 2 real options to me. Idc who played what character and for how long. Give new actors a chance. Who knows they could do better.

I hope this doesn't happen. I haven't been a fan of it in the past and I don't want to see this becoming a trend. I understand why it happened in Star Wars, but personally I want less movies doing this, instead of more.

Had Bill Murray not been a party pooper, Harold would have been in Ghostbusters 3, but he weirdly wanted to be in the remake instead.

I say go for it, but be tactful about it. They can very easily just write him in as being deceased, having passed away off-screen. It's not the BEST way to write out a character, but it's one way to do it. Geez...does anyone else feel like this movie practically writes itself? I feel like I could write the script on my own and make a decent movie out of it; they already made a great video game, a movie should be no sweat.

I love Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2. I just don't trust them to make another good one. But if someone's got a dynamite script, I'd happily watch an all CGI version.

When is the studio going to realize that we don't want anymore Ghostbusters? You cannot replicate that original cast or the uniqueness of the first film. They had the chance for sequels back when the iron was still hot, so to speak, but ultimately gave up after one sequel. Take a hint from the failure of the most recent Ghostbusters and let this property rest instead of tainting it's legacy any further with cheap fart jokes.

Tarkin was mildly cool fan service. Let's not go around bringing everyone back just because we greedily want to see certain characters return.

The Ghostbusters were on life support for years. Then Ghostbusters 2016 (Box Office Cancer) came and pulled the plug.

Don't revive it. Let it die.

No Ramos, no Murray. No thank you.
