Paul Feig Responds To GHOSTBUSTERS Trailer Backlash

Paul Feig's upcoming Ghostbusters reboot has not had an easy ride as far as marketing is concerned. The first trailer is currently the most disliked YouTube movie trailer in history, and a second trailer (released a few days ago) didn't do much to improve on the mostly negative reactions.  In a new interview with Famous Monsters Of Filmland magazine, director and co-writer Feig defended the film while discussing the incredibly poor reception  to the first trailer. “We have over 60 million hits,” he said, “so let’s put it in context a little bit. … All I can ask is, people, either give us a chance, or you don’t have to see it. I’m really proud of it."

Feig maintains that he is very supportive of his main cast, who have also received criticism (with the possible exception of Kate McKinnon). “I think it’s fun. I’m so proud of my cast. I think the cast is so good, and they can stand in the footsteps of who came before, because they’re such funny people but they’re different. That’s all you really want out of a comedy at the end of the day, is something different and new, and to just see great people do it.”

Feig also said that the trailers to all his films are rarely strong, and that there's more to the film than just using the actresses as placeholders for the original cast. “I think a lot of people thought we were going to take the original script and just flip it, so that Melissa’s going to be Venkman, and Kate’s going to be Ray Stantz! And you’re like, ‘well, no, we would never do that.’ Nobody knows what you’re doing, so it could be anything. For us, we just needed to plant a flag and go, ‘here’s kind of how some of the stuff in the movie is!’”

Are you going to give Ghostbusters a chance? Sound off below!

Why can't he find something to say that isn't "give the cast a chance" At least own up to the fact that you made two horrible trailers for a useless remake of a classic. You can't blame it on sexism forever

While people out the probably don't want to watch because of the trailers, i feel like there's people (no matter how small the percentage) that purely don't want to watch it because of the all female cast.

Oh shit, now i like a shit movie.

I don't give a [frick], if the movie sucks great, if it's good, great. I don't lose anything either way

yeah .. the trailers did not deliver. was hoping that the movie will surprise me but ... the more i see the more dissapointed i am. right now i have a feeling that once the movie will hit the big screens RT critics will destroy it. viewers will probably hate it. the only redeeming point of this movie will be probably the cast. but the girls will be blamed too.

I've never once been against this movie.

For most of my life I would have thought that a remake of Ghostbusters would be the biggest taboo that Hollywood could ever perpetrate.
But, after being so brutally raped by the Robocop remake, I'm not so protective over classic films, anymore. Bring on the Ghostbusters remake. Bring on The Crow remake. Fvck it. They're even remaking Ben Hur (not that I'm a fan of that film, but still, it is Ben Hur).

As long as they don't remake Citizen Kane, it's all gravy cake.

This film will never be as good as the original.

The original 1984 Ghostbusters is one of my favorite movies of al time. It might actually be my favourite movie.

But this is not that. It's remaking it with different characters. It's not so sacrilegious.

I'm utterly pumped for this movie. I can't freaking wait.

I hope it does insanely well. I want to see more Ghostbusters films.
Even the Russo Bros. have been talking about getting a Ghsotbusters movie together, before they start Infinity War. If this film is a success, then that might actually happen.

Also, I'm not too sure why people are hating on the film so much.
Looks alright.

I will see this movie bad or not because I'm a die hard Ghostbusters fan; the trailers have been very meh, Spy had bad trailer but people loved it in the end. If this movie is not good I don't think it will be the cast I think it would come down to script and execution because everyone in the cast is likeable and good.

This director is a major ass hole. Anyone who responds to fan criticism with "go [frick] yourself" doesn't give a crap about their audience, only their own ego. No intention to do the movie well, only to make money.

On technical merit, the direction of this film doesn't look that bad, on writing it looks pretty piss pore, and on public relations, it's Uwe Boll levels of awful. I kind of expect to see Feig challenging people to fist fights on the Internet any day now.

@RealNimbus - Whatever. 90 percent of the criticism was essentially saying "go [frick] yourself" to the movie, to the cast, to the writers, and to the director. He was just returning the favor.

After that moment in the second trailer where the black, strong-independent-looking woman said when she tried to go crowdsurfing I knew what kinda movie this was gonna be. That was the moment I stopped caring

Should have made this a successor to the originals, not reboot it. Don't know why they thought that latter was a good idea.

I've tried to hype myself up for this movie as I'm a big GB fan but I see nothing redeeming about it.

I have no issues with an all female cast, in fact, I loved the idea. Except, this female cast is so horribly cliche and unfunny. They had to get names people recognized, but forgot that these names had little talent. They would have been better going with lesser known names that could actually handle these roles.

Flark the haters. I'm going to see this. Bridesmaids is one of my favorite comedies. And Spy was surprisingly okay too.

This movie is exactly what it looks like when a shit takes a shit.

What is most horrible for me is this excrement using the same exact name as the original. It doesn't deserve that honor whatsoever. The original is one of the best films ever. This version is raping the original for everything it's worth, including even the same music for Christ's sake! It's so LAZY it makes my brain hurt!

The only actor I like in this is Kate McKinnon who is easily the most talented person in the cast, hell even on SNL itself. I also like her looking like an actual character, with the nod to Egon from the 80s cartoon. The other three girls are just playing themselves like they do all the time. Blah.

I hope this crap tanks hard.

@DevarikaWoulf - 100% agreed about Kate, she's kinda the shining light in this.

If you take stock of some of the rumours about this film...even the cast isn't happy about it...they signed up for something they thought would be completely different.

"All I can ask is, people, either give us a chance, or you don’t have to see it"

If a director feels the need to state that after the first trailer.. that cant feel good.

Isnt the hole idea of a trailer to wet your apetite and make you hungry for more? If you almost throw up by the trailer.. who wanna eat the rest of the meal??

It just look bad. Unfunny, cringy dialoge wierd colors and so on. Nothing that says Ghostbusters at all. It actually looks wors than both ScoobyDoo movies, because those two was actually at least pretty respectful to the source..

I can't wait to not see this movie. With his comments recently about hating people that he wants to see his movie, easily confirmed why l never wanted to see this movie. If he was smart he'd stop acting very Trankish and be kissing the ground that the fans walk on instead.
