JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Spinoffs Featuring CONSTANTINE And ZATANNA Are Indeed Coming To HBO Max

There have been rumblings that J.J. Abrams is developing Justice League Dark spinoffs revolving around characters like John Constantine and Zatanna, and it turns out those claims are indeed accurate...

A little earlier this week, we learned that HBO Max is moving forward with Peacemaker (a small screen spinoff of The Suicide Squad). It's previously been confirmed that Matt Reeves is helping develop a prequel to The Batman alongside Terrence Winter focusing on the Gotham City Police Department, while J.J. Abrams is working on Justice League Dark

Throw in the likes of Doom Patrol and Harley Quinn, and HBO Max is definitely becoming a go-to destination for big budget, high concept DC Comics properties.

Since Justice League Dark was first announced, there have been rumblings that characters like John Constantine and Zatanna will receive their own spinoffs. That has now been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter in their story about Peacemaker, where's it's mentioned that Abrams is "working on supernatural shows featuring Constantine and Zatanna, among others."

It's unclear whether these characters will be introduced one by one or if they'll team up before spinning off into their own shows. Either way, this team has been crying out for a live-action debut for a while now, so it's just great to know that they're finally getting the love they deserve from Warner Bros.

How much confidence fans have in Abrams is another matter, though, especially after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was such a disappointment when it arrived in theaters last December.

Get Matt Ryan. He kills it in the role.

@AtakanKaratas - Seems unlikely, unless he decides to leave Legends, although hopefully Justice League Dark doesn't bring Matt's time on the role to an end. Let the two versions exist

Use the DC Universe version of Swamp Thing in Justice League Dark and as a spin off just do a new Swamp Thing series in that continuity.

@dracula - Agreed ....Derek Meers as ST ! The performance, look, voice everything was right on ! And if they bring back Crystal Reed as Dr Crane ....it wont hurt ratings either!!

Hopefully it's a proper Hellblazer show with a morally grey John Constantine. No more of that New 52 superhero Constantine.

Matt Ryan has taken on the role in 3 animated movies, 50 episodes of television, and a claymation short. He's become synonymous with the character and I hope HBO provides him with the high-budget treatment his portrayal deserves.

@InfinitePunches -
Most of those have been watered down versions of the character. The closest he has gotten to playing a real John Constantine was in Constantine: City of Demons.

Anthony Stewart Head would make a great old Constantine

@Kyos - from what ive heard, constantine kind of aged in real time in the original hellblazer book, so yeah i guess he could do it if they were doing something from the later years

@Kyos - also would love to see him show up as a villain at some point in Joss’s new show

@dracula - I think they’ll go for a more current actor

@tmp3 - agree, for a new movie, the guy is obviously too old. Thats why i said an old constantine.

@dracula - An old Constantine makes no sense for a JL Dark show

@tmp3 - really was just sharing a thought, not saying they will or should do it

@dracula - I actually think James Marsters would be great. When I read comics featuring Constantine spike is basically what I imagine.

When are we gonna get a show runner on any of these? GCPD and Peacemaker seem so much ahead of JL Dark/GL/Strange Adventures just by virtue of already having creatives on board

Felicity Jones to play Zatanna and Clooney to occasionally appear playing Zatara.
