Here's what the excerpt reveals to us about both Godzilla, MUTO and the film's plot:

Godzilla is amphibious
Godzilla is male, not female
The atomic blast from 1954 did not kill Godzilla
Godzilla has been asleep in the Pacific Ocean for decades
The MUTO is an ancient creature, from the same time period that Godzilla existed in
Both Godzilla and the MUTO were natural enemies
Godzilla's atomic ray is consistent with previous films, though a rare occurance. Possibly because it does him harm or depleats his energy. The weapon may be more of a "last attempt" to survive, rather than a casual tool of destruction
Something resurrects the MUTO, which threatens Godzilla's survival
There could be more than one Godzilla in hibernation deep in the ocean

Possibly the last of an ancient species of giant amphibious creatures that evolved at a time when the surface of the earth was over 10 times more radioactive than it is today. GODZILLA can convert his radiation stores into a violent, focused exhalation of atomic ray. Rarely seen, but spoken of in antient Pacific Islan myths. 'Gojira' was last spotted in 1954 when the U.S Navy encountered and attempted to kill him with an atomic blast in the Pacific Ocean. Since then, the giant creature has been living in the deep ocean - until a threat to his survival from an ancient foe forces him to reappear.

Hey, I don't think there are enough exclamation points in the title. Better add another dozen.

@Luminus Rodan isn't in this movie. Godzilla is the only Toho monster to appear.

@niklander Nowhere does it say there are more. It says he's possibly the last of his kind.

And I want that figure. Badly. Like yesterday.
I mean, it's 31 inches tall and more than 40 inches long and it looks great! Well worth $50 if you ask me. A similar figure made in Japan would typically be significantly more expensive.

@ShadowPimp723 If Godzilla was real... please. We'd just make Mechagodzilla and kick his arse to space.

@AlSimmons If Godzilla was real we wouldn't even make to construction, he'd just wipe us all out. Not to mention we don't have the tech to build something like that! So please... Get realistic!

Not bad, sounds like a more realistic approach while still maintaining the elements of the originals......this might actually be good :)

@AlSimmons

If Godzilla was real the military, and black bugdet groups of the western world would unveil those secret weapons and technology that they have been hiding for decades and continue to develop. What they have is decades ahead of what we see publicly. There's no way a giant radioactive monster can defeat the combined human intellect.

I seriously hope they give us more than one monster for Godzilla to fight... Perhaps an "out of left field" type surprise during the battle , similar to how there was a surprise second Kaiju in Pacific Rim during the fight for Tokyo...

Now THAT was epic... I want to see a flying MUTO w today's FX !

@Starfox

In this incarnation not even an Atomic Bomb could kill him, so what weapon can without the loss of significant human life? Either way if a Monster like this exsisted we'd be fricked! Even if the weapons used are decades ahead they're not designed to combat something of this magnitude.... Not to mention it's stated that he evolved when the when the earth was 10 times more radioactive then it was today, which would put it pre-dinosaur era. That means he survived the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs! So I'm sorry you're little advance weapons may do nothing but tickle him.

Godzilla is tearing us apart!

@ManOfKrypton lol that's assuming he's so powerful that he can withstand any weapon or lethal toxin; which in that case then we are all screwed and might as well find another planet.

@DestroyallTrolls lol, i'm embarrassed to say that the only Godzilla film I have seen was the 98' Mathew Broderick one. I'm amped up for this movie though.

Like the new origin. I think its awesome that hes a superpowered ancient creature and not a mutated dinosaur. Awesome! But I'm not liking that they made his atomic ray a "last resort power" thing. Was hoping to see him use it a lot! Eh first slightly disappointing thing I've heard about this film though.

I thought Godzilla was reptilian... O.o

He is, more or less. When it says amphibious, it's trying to say that he can also breath underwater.
