RUMOR: Could Another MATRIX Movie Be In The Works?

According to the new report, it looks like we are not done yet with seeing Neo on the big screen, because actor Keanu Reeves has revealed some interesting info about returning back to the Matrix. UPDATED!

Wait, what?

OK, so I'm pretty sure that most of you deep inside had a feeling that we will someday see another Matrix movie from the Wachowski brothers. According to AICN, that is indeed the case. One of their sources had a Q&A with Keanu Reeves who shared some new info on the potential return to the Matrix:

"Says he met the Wachowski's (no emphasis on the word brothers), for lunch over Christmas and stated that they had completed work on a two picture script treatment that would see him return to the world of the Matrix as Neo. Says the brothers have met with Jim Cameron to discuss the pro's and con's of 3D and are looking to deliver something which has never been seen again. Keanu stated that he still has an obligation to the fans to deliver a movie worthy of the title "The Matrix" and he swears this time that the treatment will truly revolutionise the action genre like the first movie. Wachowski's are working on a movie called Cloud Atlas at the moment, once that concludes they will talk again."

Also the report goes on to say that Wachowski's have sold the most expensive script yet to Warner Bros., about a modern futuristic take on the legend of Robin Hood.

"Wachowski's had just sold the most expensive script in history to Warner Brothers. a modern futuristic take on the legend of Robin Hood. Says he understands WB paid $5 million for the rights and that from what the Wachowski's have told him, it will be an action movie that would have the same impact visually and technically that Terminator 2 had. Confirmed that Will Smith has agreed to headline the picture."

Take this with a grain of salt for now, but what are your thoughts about two new Matrix films? Good idea, bad idea? Share your thoughts below!

UPDATE: Hey guys. So yeah, it looks like this rumor is debunked. This is from Screen Rant:

Keanu's rep and the studio confirmed that this is entirely fabricated. The only somewhat true part is about the future Robin Hood script, which we knew about already, but it didn't cost anywhere near as much as $5 million.

No, it was his career. My mistake...

The second and third ones failed to live up to the greatness of the first, but I'd definitely be up for a fourth installment! Cool find Wolvie! :)

Hm maybe his mind survived in the matrix somehow? Tho another matrix movie would be great if they had a good "no plot holes" storyline

@JoshW - I agree. First was great. The others were bad.

Also, a Robin Hood film that is "modern futuristic"? Isn't that an oxymoron?

I loved the whole trilogy (that's right, all 3!), but I don't really see the need of more.

I mean, Neo's story is done. As is Trinity's. The humans have made peace with the robots...............the hell else is there to tell?

Of the news in that article, I'm much more interested in the Will Smith project. Matrix 3 was awful.

oh please god no, the Matrix was an amazing movie that had the awesome Keanu and Hugo Weaving but the Matrix Reloaded & Revolutions had awesome action but one of the worst over-complicated plots I have ever seen in a movie

If the Wachowskis are doing a new Matrix movie that has a time travelling Neo wipe the events of the second and third movie out of continuity, thats fine with me but otherwise, its a [frick]ing cash-in. GODDAMIT HOLLYWOOD, COME UP WITH SOME [frick]ING ORIGINAL MOVIES OR AT LEAST MAKE A SEQUEL THAT DESERVES TO BE MADE. they cant even go anywhere with a sequel, ffs! And dont come up with the plot that Zion is also part of the Matrix or I will beat up those prick directors

@ElBicho
hahaha very true

[frick] A POTENTIAL MATRIX 4

Heres my thoughts on the Matrix sequels

Whoa, info overload! I love it! Those movies would do quite well, cause you know every male on this planet will go see it. I'm excited. If Keanu did infact say this, and it wasn't made up that he said it, then [frick] YEAH!

Well, obviously the war was postponed, and I bet something happens that changes all that. The Arcitect said that all the humans will be freed (the ones plugged in to the Matrix). So the movie would be either really tough to make with all these endings they put into Revelations, but the only things that was open was seeing Neo again, and the peace will change back into war. I honestly don't know how they could bring back Agent Smith, as he was supposedly destroyed, but they did that once and he came back (I don't know if that will work again though). The only thing I can think of is that the machines make "new agents" and one of them looks like Agent Smith played by Hugo (like an upgraded version of the same model). And maybe a glitch in his software where he can see glimpses of memories of him fighting Neo and what not. I think that'd be cool. I'd like to see more Agent-related fights, they were my favorite. I wonder if the Frenchman will be in it? I liked that character. I'd like to see Naomi and Morpheus together, on a Eberkenezer 2 ship, as lovers and Captains (pilots) like they were. Will they try and bring Trinity back? She was the subplot of the franchise (love), and it was one of the most important things that seperated machines from humans.

When you really think about it, The Matrix is like a really complicated version of Terminator lol. Same concepts with more details and slightly different characters.

Neo is the savior
John Connor is the savior
The machines hunt down the humans
Humans resist the machines and use tactics to defeat them.
The Matrix just has more stuff in it. Both awesome.

I agree with everyone about each movie. The first one was the best. A fourth film would be great, as long as it was a good story. If it's just so they can jump on the 3D bandwagon, and it's a dumb story, I'll pass thank you. I also want Lawrence Fishburne and Carrie Ann Moss to return. I hated what happened to her character in the 3rd film. I want to see her again.

Wait another five or six years to do another one. That way Keanu will be too damned old to return as Neo. It should be a new generation of actors and even new characters to venture into or out of the MATRIX!
