Variety reports that Neil Patrick Harris is the latest addition to the cast of The Matrix 4. No plot details have been revealed, and as of right now, we have no idea who the actor will be playing.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II boarded the movie last week, while it's already been confirmed that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are reprising their roles from the original films. There's still no word on what's happening with Laurence Fishburne, but rumour has it that Abdul-Mateen II will be playing a younger version of Morpheus.

Lana Wachowski is on board to write and direct and she will helm a script written by her, Aleksandar Hemon, and David Mitchell. Production is expected to kick off at the start of 2020.

While Harris has previously appeared in the likes of Downsizing and Gone Girl, as well as Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events, The Matrix 4 would mark his first major blockbuster and it will be interesting to see whether he's used as comedic relief or something a little more serious.

Expect to hear more casting news soon!

just realized moss is reprising her role ... bit confusing on how she can walk off getting impaled with rods :/ ...maybe it's extra footage from the death scene ? that was at least a half hour ....

@knocturnalzen10 - well apparently theres a younger morpheus while keanu's neo is walking around, so seems like we cant even make a guess on whats happening in this film.

@Origame - yea it's odd , maybe it's like the story about the man they met before Morpheus spoke of .....

Such left field casting. Would have never pictured him near this kind of stuff but I'm down for it.

I can see NPH as a program. Someone in charge of ending anomalies that alter the peace in the Matrix.

I [frick]ing love the guy! Never would have expected him to join this, but my anticipation has actually gone up significantly now. I'm all for him appearing in somewhat unexpected places.

@KingCipher - Loved the Smurfs when I was a kid, love NPH now, but I just couldn't bring myself to watch that damn movie. It just looked too much... well, like it looked.

@KingCipher - The 'Smurfs somethingsomething Village' one from 2-3 years ago? That one did look pretty good. Like what they should've done with the property from the start instead of the "portal from a fictional world to the reeeeal world" angle that so rarely ever works.

You know what, he was really good as Peter Parker and Spider-Man on the MTV Spider-Man animated series.

Always liked Neil as an actor so I’m curious to see what kind of character he’ll play in the Matrix universe. Oddly enough I’m pretty excited for this movie. I was let down by Revolutions but I’m willing to give another Matrix a movie a chance. The first is one of my all time favorites and still holds up exceptionally well after 20 years.

No one can be told what role NPH is playing. You have to...see the film for yourself.
