Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's star is on the rise, with memorable performances in Aquaman and Us putting him on the map ahead of his recent Emmy win for Watchmen (he nabbed the award for "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie"). There's a lot of excitement surrounding Candyman, but beyond that, we have his mystery role in The Matrix 4 to look forward.

There's a lot of speculation that he'll play a young Morpheus, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

Based on recent comments from the actor in an interview with Collider, we can expect a movie that blends what worked in the original Matrix trilogy with some new ideas fans may not be expecting.

"My reaction to the script [was], ‘Wow, people are really gonna like this," Abdul-Mateen teases. "I like this. People are really gonna like this.’ It’s different and it’s the same, you know, at the same time. It’s a really, really very intelligent blend of what we want and what we may not know that we want."

Keanu Reeves has also praised the direction Lana Wachowski is taking The Matrix 4 in, so it definitely feels like we could be in for a treat. It just depends whether the filmmaker is able to pull it off; after all, while The Matrix is considered a classic, Reloaded and Revolutions received a mostly negative response.

Great actor, was really happy to see he won the Emmy because that performance made me see him in a whole new light from Cadillac/Manta. Excited to see what he does here and in Candyman.

@tmp3 - I haven't seen Watchmen in awhile but I don't remember him standing out in any particular way, not even as Manhattan (although I wasn't really fond of what they did with Manhattan overall). Was kind of baffled when I heard.

On another topic:

im rewatching community, past the point where the D and D episode should be (F U netflix for that bullshit). They got rid of an episode because of "black face" when it was a fantasy cosplay. Personally think it depends on the subtext if people should make a big deal or not, but seems hypocritical to remove something for someone wearing black make up (never seen anyone that dark), but keep this

Dani Pudi made to look like a white guy.

Also scrubs has removed episodes with black face (it was never done hatefully or used to have someone actually play a black character) but they keep this

Seriously either both are okay or neither is okay. Can't have it one ways

@dracula - sorry but that's a false equivalence. Black-face has a dark and racist history, white-face doesn't and isn't a thing.

Similar to the N-word. It has history especially in the US. But I can say cracker to a white person all I want without consequences.

Those companies make those decision based on this human history as does the community in general. That's just the way it is.

@kitheka - It's the same thing, someone posing as another race. Also you ever see the episodes removed, the Community one was not actual black face and in one of the scubs one, had to do with it not being okay.

On the stuff about the n word, that has nothing to do with what im saying, im talking film and televison. personally don't think those white face moments are a big deal, just saying its hypocritical, cause yeah its all about subtext. Huh if they made a movie about african american's history in hollywood and included stuff about The Jazz Singer, what would you want that history ignored or a black man to play Al Jolson or would you wanted represented properly to show how [frick]ed up it was. See subtext, from what ive heard people don't mind Tropic Thunder, its a comedy and he was not playing a black man. black makeup does not automatically equal black face. shit you can still stream Touch Of Evil on amazon prime and there, Charlton Heston played a mexican in very obvious makeup. (great movie, but still, what is that somehow okay).

@dracula - "It's the same thing, someone posing as another race."

As I explained, it's not. White people posing as black people for entertainment especially comedy will never be okay due to the history of racism and the dehumanision of black people in America.

Some cases may have happened in recent history when Hollywood was ignorant and the general public didn't care how the black community felt. That shouldn't prevent them for trying to learn and do better.

Even RDJ admitted recently on the Joe Rogan podcast that he wouldn't have gotten away with what he did today.

Obviously there're extreme examples of wearing black-face where it's acceptable like when portraying its history and openly condemning it. But never for comedy or cheap laughs.

Media corporations can self-censor if they have erred in the past without being accused of double standards due "white-face".

@WhiteBeard - God, please, NO. Everything after the first was downhill.

Hopefully it's more in-line with the first Matrix because those sequels are pretty damn rough (especially Revelations).

Yahya is awesome and doesn’t strike me as someone who just signs onto a big project for a paycheck. The sequels are a mess but I won’t lie - I dig like... 65% of Reloaded.

Revolutions though... christ lol

So, it's going to be another 'Force Awakens' where it repeats the original?
