Earlier this month, we learned that director JJ Abrams was pursuing Benicio del Toro to play the villain in his upcoming sequel to
Star Trek (set to begin filming in January). Now,
Variety is reporting that Alice Eve - who'll next be seen in
The Raven and the third
Men In Black - is being pursued by Abrams to play a new (yet currently unknown) character in the sequel. The actress doesn't have a deal set yet, but a deal is expected to be made soon (Del Toro's deal is also pending).
J.J. Abrams' second installment of the "Star Trek" franchise is gearing up, as the director has chosen Alice Eve to join the ensemble cast, playing a character that's believed to be new to the canon.
Paramount had no comment on the involvement of Eve, who doesn't yet have a deal in place -- but is expected to soon. Benicio del Toro, whose deal is also pending, is Abrams' choice to play the villain.
Variety goes on to say that
Captain America's Hayley Atwell and
I Am Number Four's Teresa Palmer also tested for the role, but Eve ended up being Abrams' choice. Who do you think she should play in the sequel? Sound off your thoughts below in the usual place.
The untitled
Star Trek 3D sequel is set to be released on May 17th, 2013.
