Roberto Orci Confirms He Will NOT Write STAR TREK 3

Several days ago when it was reported that Justin Lin ("The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift") replaced Roberto Orci as the director of Star Trek 3 many websites such as The New York Times, The Daily News, TrekMovie.com, and about a thousand more, added this bit of info, "Orci will still serve as a writer and producer on the film," I'm assuming that information originated from Deadline, which was the site that broke the story, but their article currently doesn't mention that information. Anyway, this caused a bit of confusion for Star Trek fans and Orci decided to visit trekmovie.com and leave a message in their comment section to clarify his involvement. "I’m producing, Mothing Nothing more or less," Orci wrote.

He also took a moment to defend the alternate Star Trek timeline he helped to create, which some fans still haven't embraced. Orci wrote, "Stop blaming BR (Bad Robot). It was my idea so that you would not know what was gonna happen next. Nothing more or less. I Stand behind it. And it, again, is the reason why I make movies and you don’t."
When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organisation has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS was directed by J.J. Abrams ("Super 8"), from a screenplay written by Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Returning for the sequel are Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Zoë Saldana, and Anton Yelchin. Joined by new cast members Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller.

This guy is such a tool. If he did the alternate time line so that we wouldn't know what would happen, then why rehash wrath of Khan?

Cocky [frick]ing prick. You're not even a halfway decent writer. Rehashing old ideas then claiming them as your own doesn't count as writing

And seriously, this guy is "nothing more or less" than an utter douchebag tool.

And a conspiracy nut.

And a crackpot 9/11 "truther".

And a horrible writer.

Take all that information into account whenever you see a movie that credits Orci as the writer/producer.

I actually enjoyed the first Star Trek, but Into Darkness is just utter trash.

And not that Iron Man 3 belongs in this conversation in the first place, but the difference between Iron Man 3 and Into Darkness's conspiracy stuff is the source material: Star Trek is about the optimism and exploration spirit of future humanity. Making a Trek movie into a 9/11 truther film goes against practically everything that makes it Star Trek in the first place.

Iron Man 3 isn't saddled with any of that. Besides, it certainly didn't hurt that Iron Man 3 handled its "bin laden crackpot conspiracy theory" (it really wasn't any of that, but okay) MUCH more deftly and cleverly.

I agree with @SauronsBANE seriously at least Iron Man 3 was somewhat creative. Granted it screwed up Mandarin but I'm a major stickler for creativity,

Star Trek 09' was great. Into Darkness was a pile of dung. It rehashed everything from Wrath of Khan down to the reversed Khan scream. All the secrecy with that film and all we got was Wrath of Khan 2.0 give me a [frick]ing break

Iron Man 3 took a risk and did something different. Into Darkness played shit too safe. Star Trek is about boldly going where no one has gone before. That obviously got lost in translation with Into Darkness or oops i meant Wrath of Khan 2.0

@LP4 Couldn't agree more...about both movies.

Here you have an entire alternate universe that gives you free reign to do ANYTHING new with Trek, anything you desire...and they go ahead and rehash possibly the most popular Trek story that exists. What a waste. Especially after the first film ended with the perfect set-up for the crew to go and actually do what the title of the series implies - go on some sort of trek and actually do some exploring for a change. Interstellar was a better and more true Trek movie than Into Darkness.

And I totally admire Iron Man 3 for going all-out with that plot twist. I hate how they handled that particular scene, but it certainly makes more sense and stays true to the theme of the film than a comic-accurate Mandarin or even a true Bin Laden terrorist figure. It's about time to get over a simple plot twist.

Robert Orci sucks!

Police Academy 1984 plotline: Mahoney gets in trouble and is offered a spot in Police Academy to get out of it. At 1st Mahoney does not take his opportunity seriously. He breaks rules, plays jokes, chases girls and acts like an juvenile punk.
Finally Mahoney is kicked out of Police Academy. But when a riot breaks out Mahoney has a change of heart and decides he want his opportunity back and will take it more seriously.
Mahoney comes to the rescue and is reinstated and becomes an officer.

Sound familiar? It should. It's the same plot as Star Trek 2009. Which makes Abrams' Kirk, Mahoney-Kirk.

Star Trek Into Darkness was a delicate and effeminate version of Star Trek II The Wrath Of Khan made for women. Complete with crying Khan.

He's not wrong about the alternate universe being good for the franchise, but he's such a dick I refuse to agree with him.

I hope someday we'll learn just what blackmail material Kurtzman and Orci have that keeps them working.

"And it, again, is the reason why I make movies and you don’t."

When you write good movies, come back, then we'll talk. You are literally paid to solely write nonsense so that they can have action scenes. You will never be remembered for any of your films and you've proved this by writing a film that is literally an inferior version of the a prior movie.

"He's not wrong about the alternate universe being good for the franchise"

At this point the fact its an alternate universe is a hinderance meaning we'll either rehash old stories (Wrath Of Khan - Into Darkness) or attempt new stories that are much weaker because they can now just ask Old Spock for help. The flaws in 'Into Darkness' will forever tarnish the future films set in this alternative universe and weaken the future films.
