Roberto Orci Now "Clear Frontrunner" To Helm STAR TREK 3

We had already heard that he was in contention, but now it seems that having split from longtime writing partner Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci is now officially in talks to direct the third installment in the rebooted Star Trek franchise. More past the jump.

After campaigning for the director's chair for months, it appears Roberto Orci has finally entered early talks to replace J.J. Abrams on the third Star Trek movie. According to Deadline, he is now a "clear frontrunner", having evidently convinced Paramount that he's the man for the gig. Orci recently parted company with longtime partner Alex Kurtzman (much to the delight of many fans it must be noted), so they could both focus on directing...and it goes without saying that this would be a very ambitious project for any first timer. Orci doesn't have the job yet of course, though Deadline reckon this could "happen at warp speed" -- so keep an eye on CBM for updates.

No. The guy has never directed anything ever. You DO NOT give someone like that $130 million dollars and the directors chair to fricking Star Trek. You just don't!

Wasn't Joe Cornish attached to direct at some point? Clearly he would of been a much better choice.

@Tuuralihn - It worked with Transcendence. At least Orci he has an impressive writing résumé.

Well good for him hopefully he can pull it off. I personally wanted Neil Blomkamp or Joseph Kosinski but this should work too.

I also was more of a fan of the three films that failed at the box office. Over Snow White and the Huntsman. But what do I know I enjoyed all three movies and most people clearly didn't.

I loved Into to Darkness. I just hope he doesn't try to be exactly like JJ. This is a sequel so I think he's should be creative and give a fresh feel to the third installment.

I can't believe it finally happened. They've finally made Trek fans actually wish that Abrams was still directing! I thought Into Darkness was bad, but who knows how much worse it can get with Orci behind the wheel? Sure, let's have a crackpot conspiracy theorist and 9/11 truther call the shots for a massive franchise like Star Trek. What could go wrong!

First Transformers, then Spider-Man, now Star Trek.

When will the madness end?

The idea that they would hire this clown to direct Star Trek's 50th Anniversary movie is a travesty.

Star Trek Into Darkness was arguably the most disappointing blockbuster last year; wasted Cumberbatch's talents, their "attempt" to make Khan sympathetic sucked and they rehashed the whole Kirk-Spock relationship problems again (which put the rest of the crew on the sidelines).

KURTZMAN AND ESPECIALLY ORCI SUCKS. PPL, WATCH ALL THEIR SCRIPTED FILMS AND SEE HOW IT COLLAPSES ON ITSELF WHEN YOU START ASKING QUESTIONS.

That being said, I still love the 09 Star Trek and thoroughly enjoy Mission: Impossible 3.

While i like the guys writing i do agree he is not the best choice to direct. Sure Marc Webb did a good job with Spider-Man, but thats cause those movies played to some of his strengths fro 500 days of summer (the romance and chemistry) with this we don't know what orci would be good at in terms of directing, they should get someone more experienced, even kurtzman would be a better choice cause at least he directed some movies before.

The mind of the Enterprise. The fearless genius who ensures a calm force of intelligence guides their every mission. But look deeper and you will see an outsider who does not belong, a man of two worlds. This tears him apart, the constant battle between what he thinks and what he feels. What does he do? Does he follow his head, embracing logic and the path of reason? Or does he follow his heart, knowing the emotions he cannot control may destroy him? I will help him decide...

My crew is my family,Is there anything you would not do for your family?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! WTF!!! He helped write ASM2!!! The narrative and storytelling was soooo off in that film. His previous writin for the past two star treks is questionable. No directing credits and you make his rosy film a huge blockbuster????!! This is bullshit. This guy looks weird. He looks constipated all the time

So their main director has to leave because he got the biggest directing gig on the planet and they ask the fvcking writer to fill in for him?
Seriously?
This guy has never directed anything in his life and they're giving him Star Trek?! And to fill in for the director of the new Star Wars?!
I wonder which producer he had to give a hand-job to land this gig. Oh wait, he is a producer, so that would have been himself.
Good god, if all you've gotta do, these days, to get straight to the top is to have a wank, then I'll be in my gorram bunker, bitch-kittens.
