The recent Star Trek films have received some criticism from fans who say that the franchise has departed from the the spirit of the original series, and if Simon Pegg's recent words are any indication we may just see that change.

While promoting his upcoming film Kill Me Three Times Simon Pegg spoke with Spinoff Online to express that he and co-writer Doug Jung intend to bring the franchise back to its TV roots with the next film, saying, "[W]e just want to take it forward with the spirit of the TV show. And it's a story about frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun, and that's where we want to take it, you know. Where no man has gone before – where no one has gone before, sensibly corrected for a slighter more enlightened generation."

So how do you guys feel about this? Would you like the franchise to go back to it's roots, or continue on in a style similar to the previous films? Whatever you feel make sure to sound off below.

I loved the first two, and I'm stoked for this one! Especially with Idris Elba possibly playing the villain

The first one was great. The second didn't have the magic like the first one. Still was enjoyable for the most part.

Hell yeah! Hopefully this means more of the trinity of Kirk, Bones and Spock and less of annoying as [frick] Uhura.

I thought it was clear that they'd be doing more classically Trek stuff when they said the "five year mission" at the end of the second film.

you know what? Even before reading this,,,,back when Simon Pegg was announced as one of the writers, I've had a pretty solid feeling that this will be the est of the new Trek series. Idk why but this is prob the first time I've been so blindly optomistic about a movie

Im really surprised that after everyone trying to go with a expanded universe or connected movie series to tv, that Star Trek doesnt have a tv show right now

You can have all the tv adventure stuff while saving the big events for the movies

Oh, so it's only taken them 3 movies to go "Huh. Maybe we SHOULD make these films more like the television show that it's based off of!"

*Sigh*

Why didn't they Simon to write the other two?
I have faith this one will be wildly better than the first two though.

Hope so. The first two movies were fun and entertaining...

But in the most superficial of ways. They were okay dumb action movies. They were Star Trek really in name only.

We trust you, Simon!
