According to Deadline, not only will Simon Pegg reprise the role of Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in the third of Paramount's Star Trek reboot flicks, but he's also on board as one of the writers. We might just see a bigger role for the Enterprise's chief engineer this time...

After writing with regular co-star Nick Frost on the likes of Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End, Simon Pegg will now work on the script for the new Star Trek movie. Deadline report that he'll co-write it with with Doug Jung (who also wrote a film called Diamond for Bad Robot and Paramount), creator of the TNT series Dark Blue. The Trek threequel lost its original director when Roberto Orci left the project, but Fast Furious' Justin Lin recently stepped in as a replacement. Pegg has played Scotty in both previous films, and not surprisingly, he's set to reprise the role for this third Trek through space. Does this mean Pegg will give himself an expanded role? Probably!

I loved the first one, despite some minor flaws but the second one showed that they really were firing randomly and aimlessly. It just was not a good film and kind of made little sense within it's own defined universe.

Spock versus Khan was ridiculous.
As ridiculous as that scream he did.

Kirk didn't scream Khan because he was being apoplectic, he did it as a ruse to throw him off. It was faked-rage.

In this movie, Spock (who mind-raped a dying man so he could experience the 'feels') loses his mind for some reason when Kirk dies and goes into a murderous rage.

It was all okay though because 'magic blood'.

Gotta say there is alot of awful choices that could of been made and glad to see the franchise is being wrote by a star wars fan. And I expect a little more Scottie in this one

@mynameiskahn I love the 2009 and 2013 Treks but I'm also a star wars fan and hate most other trek movies, filled with lots of talking and lots of politics, little action and bad fight scenes. I think though most Trekkies hate the fact that the new movies feel more like star wars and not Star Trek

I liked TASM too.But not that much.The cinematography was great.Garfield is the best,i don't give a shit what anyone says.There were some great moments in it too.

@Humperdink I liked the fight-maybe it could have been longer but It was cool to see Spock kick Khan(even though he's obviously my favorite villain along with The Joker) ass. And that scene Kirk death scene probably was one of the best of the movie- It showed Spock DOES have a human side. And that scene when Khan battles the Klingon is [frick]ing badass.

I don't like Into Darkness.

I am not a Star Trek fan but Into Darkness was just a Wrath of Khan remake with none of the impact.

I loved the first one! Second one was still decent, I think I would've enjoyed it more if it wasn't for that darn "Future Past" User who spoiled everything for both Iron Man 3 and Star Trek 2. smh

@MyNameIsKhan I think most people (aside from the hardcore Trekkies) will agree that the 09 Trek was actually pretty great. It might not have reflected what Star Trek actually is all about, but it was a very well-made, fun, action-packed space romp with great performances by a great cast.

Into Darkness, on the other hand, just reeks of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (and JJ Abrams, to some extent). Magic blood, 9/11 truther conspiracies, and an obsession with nostalgia...it just doesn't function as its own standalone movie. It leans so much on our memories of Wrath of Khan, that it forgets to give us a reason why THIS movie should even exist. It's so cynical and paranoid that it feels even less like Star Trek than the first movie did.

It's funny you mention change, because Into Darkness basically changes nothing. To me, the biggest problem is the fact they had this whole alternative universe/timeline in order to literally do ANYTHING they want...and instead, they decided to go back to possibly the most famous Star Trek storyline and just do a completely lazy retread of that.

I think most Trekkies would've been thrilled if Into Darkness chose to do something different, but instead it just feels like a lamer, more emotionally-lacking version of Wrath of Khan.

Trust me, it's best you don't read the stuff. The less you do, the better you are really. Nothing discussed here is important or means anything. Hell my mom never was a superhero fan and when she saw Avengers she said "it's reminded me of Fantastic Four".

If she posted that online, she would get destroyed for not knowing the comics but what people online don't understand is that it's an opinion and nothing more.

I dislike TASM films. Well mainly 2, I can bare with 1 now after seeing 2 but I don't carry that daily into my life. If you are worried about the opinions of others or if others opinions change your opinion then you should take a break from the site.

I mean look at Iron Man 3. At first I hated it but then I realized. I don't even like Iron Man. I mean I do but I like him because of RDJ. I don't care if IM3 wasn't as good as it should be because I'm not fan of the character for the character.

What I'm trying to say is, don't let any of this bother you because at the end of the day. It doesn't mean jackshit.

@SauronsBANE (Michael Fassbender Magneto voice) If you're in there, I'd like you to know that I agree with every word you said. BUt EMotionally-lacking? There were emotional moments in Into Darkness, even that scene in the 09 film when Kirk's dad meets his demise was emotional. Into Darkness is just what it says-a darker film. I agree with the whole 9/11 conspiracies part, but i felt like that helped the film even more.
