Three Writers Beamed Up For STAR TREK 3; 2016 Release Date Expected
J.J. Abrams will only be involved as a producer on the third Star Trek movie, but a trio of writers have now been hired by Paramount in order to get the movie in theatres in time for the franchise's 50th Anniversary in 2016. Who will be working on the threequel? Hit the jump to find out!
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have been hired by Paramount and Skydance Productions to pen Star Trek 3. They will be joined by Roberto Orci (co-writer of the first two installments), although there's no sign of his writing partner Alex Kurtzman or Lost's Damon Lindelof. According to the site, "The next Star Trek film is untitled and unscheduled, but Paramount and Skydance are hoping to have a film in time for the franchise to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2016." There's also no director in place as of right now, as J.J. Abrams will obviously be far too busy with Star Wars Episode VII. Attack the Block's Joe Cornish is still said to be the top choice to land the gig. Payne and McKay worked with Abrams on the script for an adaptation of Boilerplate, the graphic novel by Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett.
