The first couple of Star Trek Beyond character posters gave us new looks at Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy and Sofia Boutella as Jaylah, and now we have Zachary Quinto (Heroes, American Horror Story) as the iconic First Officer Spock, and Anton Yelchin (Green Room, Fright Night) as "Russian whizkid", Ensign Chekov.

The posters are courtesy of Sci-Fi Now and Games Radar.

After stopping off at Starbase Earhart, a remote outpost on the fringes of Federation space, the USS Enterprise, halfway into their five-year mission, is destroyed by a powerful, unstoppable wave of unknown aliens. With the crew stranded on a unknown planet and with no apparent means of rescue, they find themselves in conflict with a new ruthless enemy who has a well-earned hatred of the Federation and what it stands for.

Star Trek Beyond reunites Jon Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin, with Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella, Lydia Wilson, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Joe Taslim joining the cast.

The movie hits theaters on 22nd July, 2016.

Was Chekov from any original Star Trek material? I was more of Star Wars guy, so I don't know a ton about Trek.

@Kman - Well yes, he was. I highly suggest that u watch or binge TOS, Next Gen, DS9 (personal fave), Voyager, Enterprise and the classic films. Yes some of the films and selected episodes can be corny but most scifi tend to be. I cant recommend it enough. Star Wars is Science Fantasy and Trek is true blue Science Fiction and as a scifi show it has actually had a drastic influence on modernday tech.

@KillEmAll - Yeah but TNG had all those [frick]ing shows about Data getting his stupid humanity on, and Worf dealing with emotions, and his father, and Klingon bullshit that were so cheesy. Then they had the holodeck garbage where they were using it as an excuse to get "stuck" in time and wear vintage stuff. Ugh, they recycled plots so damn much.

and [frick] Data's cat
