Is The SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS Sequel Still Happening? Star Simu Liu Shares Update

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu has broken his silence on the lack of news surrounding a sequel, promising a fan a sequel to the 2021 hit remains in the works. Check it out...

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings made a respectable $432 million when it opened in the post-pandemic landscape back in 2021, and with a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score, it remains one of Marvel Studios' best-reviewed Phase 4 titles.

The epic martial arts movie put Simu Liu on the map. Unfortunately, the character has been sidelined ever since and it's now been close to three years since we last saw Shang-Chi on our screens.

Destin Daniel Cretton is expected to helm a sequel - rumoured to be titled Shang-Chi and the Wreckage of Time - after walking away from Avengers 5. However, he's thought to be busy working on Disney+'s Wonder Man series for the foreseeable future, leaving fans to wonder whether a Shang-Chi follow-up will ever become a reality.

Responding to a fan on Threads who shared their belief that Marvel Studios has "abandoned" the Shang-Chi fanbase, Liu responded by saying, "I prooomiss it's happening."

Assuming the plan is to reveal the connection between the Ten Rings and Kang (or perhaps the Multiverse in general following Jonathan Majors' firing), then Shang-Chi 2 really needs to be released before the next Avengers movies. If so, the stage could be set for the greatest martial artist alive to be a major player in the Multiverse war to come...

"Oh man, I don't know to be honest," Liu said last month after being asked when Shang-Chi is likely to make his MCU return. "I mean, those things are so above my pay grade. I just wanna continue to be a fan of it. You know, when I get a call of like, 'Hey, this is what your in and this is where you're going to show up. And, this is when you're going to be need to be blacked out for.'"

"That's kind of generally what tends to happen. But, you know Destin is such a special filmmaker and we're very happy to have him on the sequel. So, he'll be working on that and we're really excited to see what he comes up with. I think he's going to do a brilliant job."

"There are a lot of ideas that we had in the opener, and some of those ideas are planted as questions, by the end of our movie. There are things that we potentially want to explore in the future," the Barbie star continued. "Everything changes so much, so it’s hard to say how many of those ideas will actually make it to the finish line, but there are many of them there."

Shang-Chi 2 doesn't currently have a confirmed release date.

Just don't call him "Master of Kung-Fu".

He doesn't like that. 🫤

@SuperiorHeckler - ...really? Why?

Is it some racism thing? Like, what's racist calling an Asian martial artist a master of Kung fu?

Also, if it is about racism he's one to talk after that racist tirade he went on against white people. According to him white roles are basically all alcoholics.

@Origame - this is a joke, a scripted joke that had to be vetted and approved by dozens of people before it could be put on a prompter and be read by Liu.

In what reality do you think this is him sharing a personal opinion?
Origame
Origame - 4/15/2024, 7:30 AM
@Usernametaken - the fact he didn't object in the slightest.

And fine. I'll revise that to say Hollywood in general is being racist against white people.

If I were to say "I love taking black roles. It's so versatile like an absent father or a gangbanger", are you just gonna view that as a fun joke? No. You'd call that racist, and probably use that as an excuse to get me fired

@LiteralSense - first of all, yes it does because a black person is making the jokes with simu.

Second, thanks for proving my point. I can't even make an example of his joke applied to a different racial group and it's stereotypes without you viewing it as racist. Hence why I keep saying simu is being racist against white people.

Are you starting to understand what I mean?
EskimoJ
EskimoJ - 4/15/2024, 11:16 AM
@Origame - I love the understanding that takes place when we feel our own are being attacked.

If we could find a way to have that when others are the targets, I think we'd be in a much better place.

@Reginator - You do realize all stereotypes have some basis in reality right? I remember a guy recalling his trip to Europe. In Amsterdam they had 11 NA beers to choose from. When he got to Ireland and asked why he couldn't find any on the menu the bartender simply said, "...and why would you want to do that"?

@The1st - much of Hollywood isn't white. Case and point, simu Liu. The guy making the joke.

Also, what money? Ever since Hollywood has been doubling down on representation for representation sake and portraying white men as the worst thing ever, they've been actively losing money. Meanwhile, movies like top gun maverick that avoid talking about race and just make a great movie are making bank.
Origame
Origame - 4/15/2024, 11:29 AM
@GeneralZod - it's what happens when you hire based on DEI requirements rather than talent. You're most likely gonna have to settle on people who can't act and believe in the importance of DEI, meaning they view themselves as amazingly talented and those who disagree must be racist.
The1st
The1st - 4/15/2024, 11:37 AM
@Origame - Corporate Hollywood is though. Also, I think it's easy to say Hollywood is doubling down, but they're doing what they always do...pushing an agenda. Just cuz it's not immediately clear to those on the outside looking in doesn't mean it's not happening, and the end goal is always money ultimately. Take AI, for example. I find it funny to read the comments about how white America is being marginalized. Imagine if minorities, women, transgender/etc said this in, say, pre Civil Rights and or other movements what would happen? Oh, wait...
Origame
Origame - 4/15/2024, 11:48 AM
@The1st - ...yes, they are pushing an agenda. A very racist agenda that suggests either white people can't possibly be as well off as they are if not for marginalizing other races, or that minorities can't make it in America without "white america" to bail them out.

And as for your point that it's about money ultimately, that begs to be seen. So far companies like disney have shown that they've been willing to keep throwing money down the toilet in the name of their bs agenda.

And really dude? Most Americans supported the Civil rights movement. Hence why the equal rights act of 1965 came to be. And that had to include a lot of white people saying "this isn't right".

Even during slavery, the northern states quickly moved away from slavery due to it being inhumane and the republican party was formed specifically out of the desire to abolish slavery.

But let me ask you this, do you genuinely believe that racism should exist if there's proof of racism in that group's history? Because I can tell you now, that applies to literally every race on the planet. And you'll never end racism with that attitude.

@Origame - Hmm...I think that's what you took from it "dude". I'm assuming you don't live in Florida. Most Americans supported the civil rights movement, huh? Okay. My point was that if the minority of those white people that echo your sentiment of marginalization said the things they do in a certain time period I wondered what the reaction would be if the roles were reversed. I think maybe you missed that, or chose to gloss over it with generalizations about how most Americans supported the Civil Rights movement etc, I'm not going to get into all of them because you've made your views clear on more than one occasion, and I'm not changing them. As someone that teaches though I find it interesting that you think race is at the heart of the problem/discussion.

@Origame - Trying to sell that Hollywood is racist against white people has the be the dumbest thing I have heard on the internet in my life. I literally haven't heard anything that stupid, and there is a LOT of stupid stuff said on this site. Hell, this is the last place that someone should be stupid enough to say something like that. Look at how Ezra Miller was treated compared to Jonathan Majors in Hollywood, before any trials.
I swear, people that play this fake "racist against white people" card, don't even have a brain cell to inform them that it is white men making all the decisions in Hollywood. Also, you sound like you feel bad for NOT being oppressed or discriminated against, so you cry at the slightest thing and try to compare it to a minority group that has been oppressed by white people for over 500 years.
I probably should have stopped this reply at "you stupid", as I know none of these facts will get through to you, and white man is looked at in the wrong light, you will act like Donald Trump and claim racism where none exists. smh
I'm glad I have it set up to never see what people reply to me, as I don't know if I could handle another word of such a bad take on society.

@Origame - This is the part where we pretend there hasn't been a very well pronounced anti-white sentiment in Hollywood for the past few years. Where "Jokes" like this are said regularly and met with applause because it's supposedly "punching up" which is racist itself because that means you believe white people are above the other races. "Punching up" would be average people punching up to the government. But they won't insult any government official unless they have an "R" in front of their name.

Also are we pretending that words like "Whiteness" aren't being said at every level as a negative? If anyone said "Blackness" or "Asianess" as a bad thing they would be accurately called out for it. But the narrative is that simply being white grants you privilege. Tell that to the poor white people working a 9-5 to pay there bills and get no loans from simply being white.

Molly Ringwald recently talked about how "White" Pretty in Pink and the Breakfast Club was. And if they remade it the movie would be more diverse. Even though these films are based on John Hughes on upbringing. Which she later acknowledged.

Also are we forgetting Disney's racist hiring practices? Are you familiar with the "D Files" series by an Asian man? Where phrases like "Pale and male is stale" That's both sexist and racist but it's ok because it's the right kind of racism and sexism. Nah. It's all racist and sexist no matter who it's aimed at.

Maybe we can get back to that brief moment where people weren't tripping on race. Sadly that seems to be far away. Because the "righteous ones" don't actually want racial harmony. It seems as if they want revenge.

Vengeance is nasty. It won't turn out the way they think.

Origame
Origame - 4/15/2024, 1:36 PM
@The1st - well the united states isn't just Florida dude. Our country is democratic. There's simply no way the equal rights act could've been past and Jim crow laws abolished is if most Americans, namely white people, supported it.

Or did you miss all those white people marching alongside Martin Luther King Jr?

And no, I don't think race is the problem. The problem is agenda driven companies putting race above merit.

And yeah, keep laughing at a black man explaining to you why racism still exists. 🙄

@Origame - Ignore the idiots. You are 100% right. If the actors were white and you change those quotes to black people roles and any stereotype attacked to black folks and they would have been taken off the stage and cancelled. @GeneralZod @Ryguy88 @DarthOmega

And you guys, @Usernametaken @LiteralSense @EskimoJ @The1st @whoknows @DarkeyeZ who all piled on him would probably be the first god damn ones cancelling those white actors. Two actors sterotyping both white mean and woman as alcholics? Not to mention, implying high divorce and marriage problems. It was disgusting.

And for these two, life is about choices. They could have said no, im not saying that shit but somehow, this is acceptable.
Usernametaken

@AvalonX - I don't cancel people for things they say, I'm a believer of as long as someone don't do something illegal, I have no reasons to actually hate him.

Well, with the exceptions of politicians, they can all die for all I care, but that's because I think the evil shit they are doing should be illegal.

But to respond to the idea that "if a white dude bla bla bla", we actually did it, we did it for decades and centuries, even when I was a kid, racism and sexism coming from white men was just a regular day.

Things have been course correcting for what? A decade? Yes it is over correcting, yes it's bringing new issues.
So what? Every week we get more proof that women are as sexist as men and that every other race is as racist as white people.

There is no toxic masculanity and white supremacy, only toxic humanity and tribalism.

Give it time, things will smooth over, or we'll all kill each other, but that joke from Simu Liu is not something I would worry about.
