Robert Says Sin City 2 May Begin Filming Early Next Year

The Sin City director confirms what many fans have been asking for since the first installment hit theatres.

Sin City was one of the only recent movies to brilliantly blend black and white cinematography with live action color. Watching Sin City gave you that nostalgia feel of the 20's and 30's and then whipped you back in to the story's realty with the crisp color and action sequences. The movie off course went on to be a smash hit at the box office leaving the fans wanting more. Well, today fans, we get more. From Director Robert Rodriguez:

"People have been talking about Sin City 2 since the first one came out," Rodriguez states. "Whenever I'm out and about, people say, 'When's Sin City 2 coming? When's Sin City 2 coming?' They've been asking that for years. So this probably will add to that, certainly."

Rodriguez off course has a few other commitments he has to take care of before he can focus 100% of his attention on the Sin City sequel, but he also confirms that talks have began with his creative team and he is looking forward to begin shooting as early as next year.

"I actually had a phone call with some of the players in it today, but I was on a plane so I missed it," he said. "So next week we're going to talk about it some more and get a timing on when we'd be doing it. But there's a lot of people who are interested in it. ... We are definitely going to do that one."

What will the story be about you ask? Rodriguez states it will include "A Dame to Kill For" as well as original new material from Frank Miller himself.

"There's a lot of stories," Rodriguez states. "That was sort of the approach I took to it. That's why there's three stories in the [first] movie, because I thought, 'I love this material, but gosh, what happens if it's not successful and I don't get to make a part two and part three. I still want to see "The Big Fat Kill" and "That Yellow Bastard."' So I wanted to put them all in one movie so I could at least get some of these stories out of my system. But there's still so many books and so many stories to do."

Im not Rodrieguez biggest fan but he and Miller really knocked Sin City out of the park. They managed to compress 3 graphic novels worth of story into one movie without really losing any important elements. Hopefully they can do it again. New material eh? I think that means that if Owen or Rourke dont come back they need some new stories and characters!

Sir: "Here, here!" lol

You know, I just got to put this out there... For anyone who says that Miller doesn't seem to have his $#it together since "The Spirit" came out...
I finally gave myself the opportunity to watch the movie a few weeks back, when it was released. And it wasn't half bad. In fact, having read a lot of Eisner's previous work on the Spirit, and a few of his stand alone works ("A Contract With God", "The Plot"), I can honeslty say that Miller did a FINE job of bringing not only Eisner's character, but his sense of artistic prose, and "no quarter" attitude towards his storytelling, to LIFE!
I told myself, just like I'm guessing most people, that it looked too similiar to Sin City, and actually made myself wait until it came out on video to see. The only thing I can say now, is that I made a HUGE mistake.
I look forward to the next installment(s), and know, now, that the man has a great amount of potential to explore, and I can't wait to see where he takes us!

Im majorly stoked about this one.

"A Dame To Kill For" is the first Sin City I ever got, and I always knew it would make a good movie

I totally agree with you adamant877. I didnt want to watch it because of what i'd heard. Miller DID do a good job of adapting Eisner's stuff. It read and felt just like it. And you're right the problem was the sin city style. It makes people expect a sin city like movie. Also, i think most comic book people are even unfamiliar with Eisner so the story telling might have seemed a little alien even if he is the gandpappy story teller of them all.

"Filming may begin early next year." [frick] you Rodriguez. You been saying shit like this for years now. I'm not biting til I see casting lists and production pics, then I still won't bite til a trailer comes out. Rodriguez, your a deucebag for trying to build this anticipation for so long. I almost don't give a shit if this gets made or not anymore... almost.

Thanks Betty, it's nice to know someone else gave it a chance. It honestly gave me a newfound respect for Miller, and made me an even bigger fan of his work.
And thanks for the J.A. booty too, I needed that. ;-)

I was so psyched for the Spirit when it was coming out, but with all the negative reviews I didn't see it in theaters. But then I rented it two weeks ago and loved it. It was cheesy and over the top, but that's what it was supposed to be. The only thing was that it was shot EXACTLY like Sin City.

But ya this is bullhshit. Miller said he wanted to start filming next month not too long ago. This movie is never [frick]ing coming out. I watched the first one and most actors were in the studio for seriously two days. Just do it in between projects! Its all green screen!

I bought "The Spirit" the day it came out, regardless of everyone saying that it was awful because I figured that these same people saying that probably hated "Sin City," which I absolutely love and so I figured that I'd love "The Spirit," too. Man was I wrong. That movie was F'ing HORRIBLE! And it had nothing to do with being over the top and cheesy, it had everything to do with the fact that it didn't make me care one bit about any single character in the movie! It was boring as hell and the only good qualities were the "Sin City"-type shots, which were nothing new so this movie brought nothing whatsoever. It just felt like something was missing, kinda like it had no soul.

As far as this "news" is concerned, I heard this same news story in 2005 right after the first one came out. I hope it's true this time because regardless of how awesome "The Dark Knight" was, THIS is the best comic book movie to date. In TDK's defense, though, I don't really consider it a comic book movie, I consider it a movie starring comic book characters cause it doesn't have a comic book feel at all. (I hope this isn't coming off as me ripping TDK cause I absolutely love it.)

Side note: why doesn't "Blade 2" get enough credit for being one of the best comic book movie adaptations? If you watch that movie so many screen shots and poses by Wesley Snipes look exactly like boards right out of the pages of a comic book. If you're bored watch it again with that in mind and you'll appreciate it a thousand times more. Even the scene right at the beginning where he jumps off the roof and lands in the alley. Awesome movie.

This is a movie I cannot complain about. Sin City is my second favorite movie of all time, and number one comic book movie for me. Praise Zeus, Thor, and everyone else if this comes true. If not I still have the original.

@MetalHead--I almost agree with blade 2 being one of the best comic movies. The only reason why i dont completely agree is because i have never read a single blade comic so i have nothing to base it on. OF the blade movies though, part 2 was my favorite. I do love ryan reynolds and every part of jessica biel.

And hey, if they can make three blade movies, they can damn sure make some more wolverineys!

They'll do what they always do. Their just trying to stop the fans from moaning. "ok gais, we're making the movies, lolol" It's not going to happen. Sin City 2 is possibly the most anticipated comic book movie sequel of all time. And all they do is let the fans of the comics and movie down by constantly pushing the movie dates back by making 300 and the spirit. Sure 300 was great and pretty much groundbreaking, but it would have been nothing in comparison to Sin City 2.

Roar, no one mentionned McGowan but you know damn well Rwody Roddy Rodriguez will put her in. And if that's not bad enough, they'll try to compansate Alba's lack of nudity in both films by an overload of icky McGowy nudy boobies!!!! Sorry i posted a bit late, i was getting surgery done on me to re-incorporate my major organs in my body that i had recently vomitted!!!
