Marvel Studios Concept Artist Talks SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME's Final Spidey Suit And Ambitious Future Plans

Spider-Man: No Way Home concept artist Ryan Meinerding has explained how he approached the web-slinger's final swing suit, revealing he experimented with an idea which could be revisited in Spider-Man 4.

In the closing moments of Spider-Man: No Way Home, we followed Peter Parker as he moved into his New York City apartment and became the classic Amazing Spider-Man, homemade suit and all.

It's widely been described as the wall-crawler's best big screen costume, largely because it looks like it's been torn straight out of the comic books.

Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding is credited with creating the design and explained his approach to that suit in Spider-Man: No Way Home's new "Art of" book.

"It's a classic red-and-blue suit with a spider that feels more grown-up - a little bit influenced by the spiders that he saw on Tobey and Andrew's suits," Meinerding explains. "The journey that he's been on, the pain that he's been through losing both Tony and May and then losing his friends at the end has allowed him to get to a place where he is not just the friendly neighbourhood kid Spider-Man."

"Now he's more of a grown-up Spider-Man. He is owning that identity in a strong way. It's such a big movie, and ending on something like that feels right, it feels like it's earned. Now we have a fully-fledged Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who is classic."

The artist goes on to reveal that he created a number of variations of this costume, exploring different spider symbols and colour options. That included attempting to bring a Steve Ditko-inspired Spidey to screen, where the blue is visible only at the edges, and the material appears mostly black.

"The challenge with that one," Meinerding says, "is just how you get that in the real world. It's still in the back of my head."

"I'm always going to be trying to figure out how we can do that. I know there's some material that's going to exist someday that we're going to be able to do it with and it's going to be super cool."

Chances are Spidey will get yet another new suit when he returns to the MCU, though we don't currently know when that will be. Tom Holland was in talks for Spider-Man 4 prior to the strikes beginning and is expected to be a lead character in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

What did you think about Spider-Man: No Way Home's final suit?

Paul Schrader shits on MI Dead Reckoning . Says AI probably could've written that script.

@GhostDog - Kinda agree, MI 7 is quite disappointing. Everything was so obvious and a script thats such a suck up to Tom Cruise. Like really? The only thing good or close enough to kill Ethan Hunt is an AI. Script felt like they were just trying to shove every generic MI trope in the movie. The big stunt highlights of the train and jump sequence were half CGI so it wasn't as awe inspiring as the previous film too.

MI needs a new director and script.

@GhostDog - Paul is an idiot and has never actually read AI generated scripts before because they’re dogshit.

Dead Reckoning isn’t as great as Fallout but it’s still very good despite a few issues it has.

@TheLobster - I really like a lot of his work. Card Counter and Master Gardner are dope. I mostly disagree with him but the script of DR was the weakest aspect.

McQuarrie is a proven great screenwriter of course

Rewatched it the other day and I liked it even more.

Great Spider-Man film, even retconned some stuff I didn't like with Tom's SM.

And that final suit...

@Fogs - it really makes the two previous films seem better retroactively

Spiderman not knowing how to use spider sense. Him relying on Stark and Stark tech. All of that now is worth having because he had to learn spider sense to defeat mysterio and had to have Tony die to rise above. Now he has a stitched suit, no tech, relies on HIS abilities. And he may have had the most diverse adventure of any spider man thanks to his adventures with the avengers fighting aliens.

I love how they Progressed his character. Masterclass work there

@Matador - You know Firestar was originally supposed to be MJ? Maybe the MCU fixes that and makes her a mutant.'

@ObserverIO - No I didn't know that but keep hearing about MJ's Jackpot or Crackerjack.

@Matador - Def seems to be a push to give her powers. Firestar would be cool though, especially if we can get Iceman in there too.

This suit better be in spiderman 2. And with the optional symbiote suit being the Tom Holland concept art.

I love the suit. I hope it’s added in the new Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 game this October

"Now he's more of a grown-up Spider-Man"
...he's grown up because he lost people?
...because he had two other spidermen undo his idiocy with Strange's spell?
...because he's single and headed to college? maybe?!?
...because he almost killed a villain and another hero stepped in to stop him?

i don't see the real 'arc' of how he became a grown up... he was basically pushed out the door based on making his own mistakes and told to 'grow up' in doing so... which we have yet to see.
Grown up is where future movies should be, but won't be with the likes of BlackCat, etc.
